There's always a distinct earth character that I can't get past in Clos des Goisses. It's here in spades on the nose. The palate is also earth-inflected but there's enough ripe fruit to counter. Good energy and vibrance. Not my cup of tea given that distinct almost dirty earth note.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Last of a six-pack. This is at peak now with a full nose of rich orchard fruit with mineral and toast. The palate is so fresh with layers of orchard fruit, mineral and white flowers. Great concentration and cut.
A seriously fruit forward and flinty nose. The palate is bright with ripe (for Chablis) peach and tropical fruit. Good acid tension to offset the ripeness. Good now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
From magnum. Gorgeous nose that was so layered and complex with smoky orchard fruit, spice and minerals. Palate however was not as compelling. Still fresh but this was simple and light weight in the mouth and i wanted so much more based on the nose.
Magnum. This is showing no age whatsoever -- full nose of mineral, slate and sweet white fruit. The palate is round with a core of sweet white fruit that is at once plush and juicy. Well balanced. Should age for a couple of decades in this format.
Love the gorgeous nose -- layered baked apple, exotic spice and creme brûlée. The palate is however a bit lean and flat, showing tired. 93 point nose. 85 point palate.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Full rich nose that is still non-delineated with black cherry and spice. That palate is similarly rich with forward, primary fruits that are currently lacking any nuance. All the stuffing is there, but this needs another 10+ years.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Sweet and ripe black cherry that is loaded with Vosne spice and black tea. Grand Cru concentration and a rich, silky texture throughout. Good grip in the finish. Excellent.
Magnum. Black and red cherry aromas with some autumnal character. Palate is still fresh with good attractive fruit, but not showing much depth or nuance. Not as compelling as a bottle of 2005 drank two nights prior.
Terrific intense and layered nose -- cedar, tobacco, spice and maturing plum fruit. The palate is similarly complex, layered and generous. Still juicy and fresh. Bottles like this should hold for a decade.
Decanted for ~5 hours, returned to the bottle and served a couple hours later. A stunning nose with impressive density, intensity and layering -- mature cherry fruit, balsamico, toasted herbs, spice, and florals. The palate is seamless start to finish with impressive power and ethereal weight. Long, lifted finish.
Magnum. Impressive full rich and spice filled nose. Powerful on the palate with concentrated fruit and serious structure even at this age. Despite the power and scale, this has nuance with a myriad of fruit, herb and floral flavors. Upside from here.
A towering and commanding nose rich, mint-filled Shiraz fruit. The palate is so rich and dense with persistent brightness. Youthful even at 30 years old. Wow.
A perfect, arresting OMFG nose of savory plum and black cherry, with bacon, smoked game and olive. So hard to pull your nose out of the glass. The palate has richness and tension with similar complexity of flavors. Other worldly Syrah.
A big and bold nose of black fruit, toasted herb and oak spice. The palate has serious concentration and flavor. Rich and no signs of 20+ years of age. Big yet fresh and balanced.
Rich toffee and candy apple aromas. Palate is unctuous and thick. Almost like syrup you can put on a pancake. Deliciously flavored. But a sip or two is quite enough.
Quite fresh for a 80-year old wine -- good caramel and port-like flavors. Medium concentration and good freshness. Interesting for sure and still providing some pleasure. [edited to correct my math!]

2009 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

Tropical and waxy fruit comes across as heavy. White Rhone isn't my cup of team. Mid 80s if I had to score it.

2009 Blain-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
A seriously mineral wine with a chalky notion to the orchard fruit. Very lean and taut for a 2009. The Caillerets character shines through.
