A faint touch of creamy hazelnut. Crisp. Lovely line, lots of zip here. Opens up to show a real florality, freshly cut freesias. Really opens and broadens with air and as it warms in the glass. Almost too broad by the finish. ****

Nose initially consistent with previous bottles, creamy hazelnut, though it does seem a little more variable. Comes and goes somewhat. A little rounder and broader than previously. Less focus too. Slightly bigger glass which may not help, but this doesn’t sing the old school Leflaive of previous bottles. That said, lovely wine and sits well alongside the Maté’s 19. ****

Last tasted in 2097 and unsurprisingly has moved on from then. Bright mid garnet. Light and airy. Silky. More nuance but less heft than the Fourrier. Very pretty, verging on the ethereal, but nothing inconsequential here. Understated, but lingering depth. Lovely. Mature and ready. *****

Slightly fuller, mid garnet. Autumnal sou bois. More weight, less finesse. Savoury, autumnal and very satisfying. Fine velvet. ****

Mellow, a touch of vanilla still to resolve. Bright acidity. Nicely savoury. Ground coffee, cool leather and a touch of beef. Texturally still quite rich. ***(*)

A glorious bottle. Coffee, leather, Victorian fireside and church pew with a pinch of orange zest. Fresh, vital, fully mature but good for another couple of decades. Classic, mature VR. ****

A little tighter and less giving than recent bottles. Dense mid ruby. Far denser than the 2001s. Densely silky. Quite meaty. A touch of vanilla. Opens to quite a meaty depth. Still quite full and whilst not primary it’s clearly not as e evolved as the 01s earlier in the meal, or indeed previous bottles of this. Lots of promise though. ***(*) 93

Similar colour to the Lamarche. Very slick and glossy on the nose. Oozes class. Full, still a bit of tannic grip. Quite rich. A touch of oak. Long with a lovely line. Structure buttresses the richness. An elegance and sophistication here, cf the Lamarche’s relative sturdiness. Very smart indeed and a likely knockout in five to ten years. *****

Firstadte of this, and whilst fully mature, it’s lovely. Mid gold. Rich, gingery nose. Fizz just about evident, and holding on by its fingertips. Surprisingly vital on the palate. Gentle ginger. Mid length. Lovely, but drink up. ****
