Floral with some funk that blew off after about 20 minutes, and became totally sweet and lovely. This was an excellent Cros Parantoux but was up against 96 Rousseau Chambertin which was a monster, and 96 DRC Richebourg which was also no slouch.

Gobsmackingly brilliant. Breathtaking precision and delineation. This is the top echelon of great Burgundy, ergo one of the greatest wines in the world. Incredibly fresh with secondary nuances, this should be a stunner for decades.

The most reserved of a trio of 96’s today vs Rousseau Chambertin and Meo Cros Parantoux. Dense, dark, and delicious but only giving a tiny bit of what it has to offer. Give this 20 years.

Gorgeous floral and spice aromas, stood out amongst very tough competition. The palate not quite as beguiling as the aroma but still excellent. This should keep and probably improve for a decade or more.

One of the greatest vintages for DRC RSV. Enormously density with clean and precise fruit. As much as I enjoyed it, better in a decade and will live for many decades.

Surprised by how accessible this was, one of the best 2011 red Burgundy I have tasted. Clean and deep, zero “green meanies” that can affect a lot of 2011’s. Quite precocious by Roumier standards, and should do well over the next 10-15 years.

A decent and correct wine that was blown out by an array of incredible wines. Struck me as a bit thin compared to the complete and brilliant wines served beside it.

So dark, dense, and rich but with the epic precision that Rousseau Chambertin seems to demonstrate more consistently than any other wine. There's no crime in drinking it now, save for the fact this will clearly metamorphosize into something even greater with time.

Served blind, the seamless majestic beauty was quite evident and I identified it as Petrus. Quite round and lively, this was barely showing secondary notes. Beautiful wine, opulent and regal. Many decades of life ahead.

Yum yum yum, delicious but young. Great minerality, lovely texture. If you can keep hands off this should be a knockout in time.

Blew away the 14 served beside it, which was no slouch, so clear why this wine deserves age. Sure there’s risk in aging wines of this era, but when it’s on it is ON. Very dense and long, one taster was sure this was Montrachet.

1989 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut
France, Champagne
From magnum this was killer, like aged Leflaive with bubbles. Great truly classic Champagne but… the aged Leflaive served after it was better.

1999 Domaine Leflaive Chevalier-Montrachet
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
From magnum, this was magnificent bordering on perfection. Enormous density almost like biting into a soft cheese. Earthy truffly goodness with mineral and ripe and crisp fruits. Finish is quite long. Doesn’t get much better than this.

2018 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Crisp mineral, clean and precise. The more air it got, the more the midpalate filled out. I prefer this to 2017 now, but expect roles will reverse in time.
