  • 2019 Château Ferrand

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Light ruby. Berries, herbs, and wood. Medium weight with blackberry, herbs, and a woody base. The fruit seems flat with a bit of sweetness. Astringent finish. Balance??

  • 2019 Château Clos de Sarpe

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Deep, thick ruby appearance with oak dominating the aromas. Full bodied and sappy. Round, ripe cassis and some soil. Excellent acidity, moderate tannins buried in the fruit, oaky finish. Modern. I would have guessed Napa.

  • 2019 Château Pape Clément

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Medium ruby. Fragrant high tones of herbs and flowers. Elegant medium weight. Excellent feel and liveliness, and the first wine where wood does not dominate. Outstanding dark fruit/herb mix with a bit of bitter chocolate at the end. Fine acidity, moderate tannins, excellent length. The best wine of the day for me.

  • 2019 Château Rauzan-Ségla

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Medium ruby with a lighter edge. Forward herbal aromas. Medium weight. Smoky, dark cherry fruit, and a citric twist. Excellent acidity, moderate tannin. Overall, subtle and very interesting. I liked it a lot.

  • 2019 Pauillac de Latour

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Dark and serious looking. Reserved nose. Medium weight but sappy. Smoky and backward, slightly herbaceous. Excellent acidity, good inner mouth sweetness, and drying tannins. Powerful but well balanced and persistent. Real Pauillac that will take a good 15-20 years to unwind.

  • 2019 Château Lynch-Bages

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Very deep and dark color. Serious, classic blackberry aromas. Medium weight. More supple than Pauillac, but a much leaner, more grainy feel than that wine. Dry, penetrating tannins. Bury this one deeply based upon today's showing, but I'm not convinced of its balance for the long run.

  • 2009 Château Potensac

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc

Tasted blind-I thought it was a right bank wine. Light ruby with maturing edge. Stalky, herbaceous aromas. Medium weight. Supple entry, subtle red fruit and a bit of citrus, high acidity, and remaining dry tannins. Although there is still fruit here, the nose and balance of fruit and tannins suggest that it may already be on a downward path. More pleasing when tasted in 2015.
