Black fruit flavours with an almost “Cadbury fruit-like chocolate” on the palate. Surprisingly open for such a young BDX. This really is a beautiful wine that I suspect will stay open throughout its evolution and just continue to get better and better. Has me thinking about buying the ‘22s; if only, the price wasn’t such an increase from these ‘19s (CAD $220 CAD versus $150 CAD).

K&L Bordeaux Tasting: 14.2% ABV. Medium ruby appearance. Similar cut to the ‘20 tasted next to it but with less herbaceousness. Black fruit, violets, anise, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate. Good acidity, elegant mouthfeel, with approachable tannins. Also feels a bit more dense and concentrated than the ‘20.

dark ruby colour. very perfumed nose with rose petals, white blooms, and herbs with the black and red currants, tobacco leaf, sandalwood and subtle earthiness. surprisingly open in the mouth, it feels juicy, fresh and supple. expressive fruit, spice and other complexities in the mid palate are already in display, anchored by dusty tannins. very good length.
a wine of finesse that already shows very well and should be very rewarding in (hopefully) a not-so-distant future.
14.5% AbV; 62% Cab Sauv/ 35.5% Merlot/ 2% PV/ 0.5% Cab Franc; eighteen months in 60% new barrels

Saturday Afternoon Bordeaux (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Deep ruby. Forward, fragrant perfume of green herbs. Ripe cassis entry with excellent acidity an herbal complexity. This is far ahead of the 2020 in terms of openness and complexity. Powerful but very elegant. I liked this a lot.

What an elegant wine. Everything is just right. Complexity is not comparable to top tier Bordeaux, but oh so enjoyable.
