so here it is..another vintage... another ripe, thick... oh wait...no? and not watered down either? no way!
i will not proclaim this as the next coming of '01 - for many reasons. some of these are obvious - i am neither qualified nor, honestly, is anyone qualified to do that after a power tasting on a summer day when the wines are pretty fresh from bottling.
but there are other signs - the wines do not reach the height of a GREAT vintage. with that said - we have had anough great cellarworthy wines in the last few years...most of the are hopefully still there - in the cellar. what i saw in '07s is their sheer fun early drinking beauty. cleaner and crisper than many if not all the '06 and most of '05s.
now that is not to say there arent great wines. there are indeed! yet they arent "the rule" - on the other hand - the multitude of good true rieslings is something i am looking forward to consuming! and with much less "baby killing" guilt
oh one more point - i am not a tru fan of dry german wines and when tasting them together with the sweet wines - its rather hard to like them no matter how much you rinse you glass or how much bread you eat.
this was my last table of the day and with no one pouring the wines were a touch too warm.
Fun Young! table. great pleasure to taste these two very different producers.

slightly closed, rich and spicy like last year. needs time
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
WOW.. both selbach and schaefer used the vintage to their advantage creating amazing lineups.. with multiple kabinets from Schaefer (all unique and all good) - both producers (kick me please) are still ridiculous bargains and a a must have. two of the top tables today
(6/12/2008)
mineral nose, slate, smoke, bit rough...i still need convincing that mosel is a place for dry riesling...
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

fresh, sweaty mineraly risling, yummy - no convincing needed here!

ripe middle, apples, great tart finish, fun wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
floral (violets?), richer and riper (for some reason Graachers taste more like Welhleners this year..in all the producers) will need time.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/13/2008)
rich middle, long, sweaty ripe fruit, but past the middle the wine shows mineral and elegance that will come with time. cellar this one. YUM!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
yup...its a spat... althought amazingly ripe, the level of minerality and the sheer balance this wine has gives it elegance. atumnal fruit dominates, rich sweet notes flow smoothly into a creamy finish... BUY
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
yeah... no seriously...a BUY... are you kidding? mineraly, minty, leafy, elegant..all that with gobs of ripe fruit...aaahh.. this is good.

again - Welhlener notes - floral, rich and creamy, fruit cocktail...WOW...
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
less rich, more mineral notes, but with peaches and red berries on top of the berries, less cream more intensity perhaps?
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
this is a bit closed, but lots of power under the hood. apples dominate over the layers of minerality and stones, bright long finish..elegance will be there. YUM
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Both Kerpen and Meulenhof produced fresher and zippier wines than in the last few years and IMO - it payed off. Kerpen spat* is a wine not to be missed.
(6/12/2008)
mineral, sour/unripe peach (in a positive way) - very crunchy wine (early harvested grapes) - delicious drink now or later kabinet.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
perhaps not as exciting as some, but this is true moseler spatlese, floral, tart finish, good ripe apples in the middle, just a pleasure to drink. (will age IMO...but hard to stay away from on a hot day right now)
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

more green apple than the wehlener, fresher, good tart middle, great finish. delicious

(6/12/2008)
this is the wine that keeps remining me (and every year btw) why i love the vinyard sooo much. for those who too love this small piece of heavenly land but are smart enough to keep your hands off of prum for MANY years - this is the wine!! floral, sweet, elegant, red apples over granny smith notes, full soft ..yum... think pastoral paintings of peasant girls with the sweetest apple cheeks..
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
similar to spat but a bit richer and heavier, good middle of tart but ripe apples, very nice but i would pick the spat this year.

very mineraly wine, but the fruit is there slowly uncoiling. delicious and a steal. YUM!!!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
(6/12/2008)
big boy elegance - massive fruit that is somehow squeezed into the slim wine (perhaps its the bottle? :)) apples and pears, apple core almost..yum
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
to me - the erdeners tasted more complete than the urziger (and i am usually an urziger guy)
these are very good wines with a few real stars in the making. perhaps a touch underwhelming compared to the stunning '04/'05 collection of auslese.
(6/12/2008)
apples on the nose, spicy, rich, mouthfull of fresh fruit, red berries. YUM

Hexamer and Donnhoff next to each other..wow... Hexamer did an amazing job, best since '02 i think. trully amazingly clear fresh wines where minerality controlls the show, and Donnhoff... is Donnhoff.. perhaps not the high 98 but the wines i tasted were elegant, charing and snfully good at the same time...thus - Donnhoff was Donnhoff.
(6/12/2008)
good focus, high inerality, touch rough finish
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue

probably the best quarzit since '02. light, zinging minerality, green apple, needs 6 months to all coe together but a beauty

Schneider is a star to watch. the Hermansholle spatlese means there is a wine from that vinyard that can be had for next to nothing... and is THAT good. Kruger-Rumpf was less exciting, but solid wine. Diel did nothing for me this year..well not nothing but not enough. and i LOVED the '06
(6/12/2008)
apples and pear, good length. fun wine.

Lustau - i tasted only these - since i dont generally like the regular range. i must say these are always well made sherries but rarely trully interesting. i tried these more rare wines and the Anada is fun and unique. the Fino was actually the one i really loved - made by a small producer on the coast. very very good.
