Introduction

so here it is..another vintage... another ripe, thick... oh wait...no? and not watered down either? no way!
i will not proclaim this as the next coming of '01 - for many reasons. some of these are obvious - i am neither qualified nor, honestly, is anyone qualified to do that after a power tasting on a summer day when the wines are pretty fresh from bottling.
but there are other signs - the wines do not reach the height of a GREAT vintage. with that said - we have had anough great cellarworthy wines in the last few years...most of the are hopefully still there - in the cellar. what i saw in '07s is their sheer fun early drinking beauty. cleaner and crisper than many if not all the '06 and most of '05s.

now that is not to say there arent great wines. there are indeed! yet they arent "the rule" - on the other hand - the multitude of good true rieslings is something i am looking forward to consuming! and with much less "baby killing" guilt

oh one more point - i am not a tru fan of dry german wines and when tasting them together with the sweet wines - its rather hard to like them no matter how much you rinse you glass or how much bread you eat.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

this was my last table of the day and with no one pouring the wines were a touch too warm.

Flight 2 (11 Notes)

Fun Young! table. great pleasure to taste these two very different producers.

Flight 3 (13 Notes)

WOW.. both selbach and schaefer used the vintage to their advantage creating amazing lineups.. with multiple kabinets from Schaefer (all unique and all good) - both producers (kick me please) are still ridiculous bargains and a a must have. two of the top tables today

Flight 4 (12 Notes)

Both Kerpen and Meulenhof produced fresher and zippier wines than in the last few years and IMO - it payed off. Kerpen spat* is a wine not to be missed.

Flight 5 (9 Notes)

to me - the erdeners tasted more complete than the urziger (and i am usually an urziger guy)
these are very good wines with a few real stars in the making. perhaps a touch underwhelming compared to the stunning '04/'05 collection of auslese.

Flight 6 (6 Notes)

2 MUST HAVE kabinets and a few other fun wines

Flight 7 (14 Notes)

Hexamer and Donnhoff next to each other..wow... Hexamer did an amazing job, best since '02 i think. trully amazingly clear fresh wines where minerality controlls the show, and Donnhoff... is Donnhoff.. perhaps not the high 98 but the wines i tasted were elegant, charing and snfully good at the same time...thus - Donnhoff was Donnhoff.

Flight 8 (20 Notes)

Schneider is a star to watch. the Hermansholle spatlese means there is a wine from that vinyard that can be had for next to nothing... and is THAT good. Kruger-Rumpf was less exciting, but solid wine. Diel did nothing for me this year..well not nothing but not enough. and i LOVED the '06

Flight 9 (11 Notes)

Strub and Geil - both had excellent vintages with a couple must buy wines. also - amazing QPRS even with the dollar as it is.

Flight 10 (15 Notes)

Leitz and Spreitzer both had excellent vintages. Leitz dry wines are really starting to sing and the sweet wines - i always love them . great showing for both producers.

Flight 11 (6 Notes)

Darting made, again, great wines at great prices..simply delicious stuff. perhaps not the most complex but who cares? these are true pleasure wines.

Flight 12 (3 Notes)

i like these wines, they offer good QPR and the gewurz is always my style. i tasted the whole range but it was the end of the day and my notes were too simple for the wines i did not absolutely love.

Flight 13 (4 Notes)

Lustau - i tasted only these - since i dont generally like the regular range. i must say these are always well made sherries but rarely trully interesting. i tried these more rare wines and the Anada is fun and unique. the Fino was actually the one i really loved - made by a small producer on the coast. very very good.

Closing

:) drink up! terry - HUGE congrats again on the JB and thanks so much for bringing these in!
