Introduction

All my wines poured blind to the group, except two brought by Lukas

  • 2014 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay Art Series 92 Points

    Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

    Paler than expected at this age. Medium+ intensity on the nose with some reductive notes, lime, lemon, light touch of oak, yeasty, some smokiness. In the course of the evening a green note came through. Lean, almost a bit light on the palate with nutmeg, hazelnut, firestone and citrus peel. Medium+ acidity, medium+ intensity on the palate, long finish. 92-93

    On day 2 clearly less than day 1, I wouldn’t wait too long with your bottles

    Pourred blind to my tasting companions. General idea was hunter valley semillon

  • 2007 Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

    Probably slightly more developed than expected. Deep golden in color, medium+ intensity on the nose with honey, almond, hazelnut, light oxidative tones, firestone, some cabbage, dried apricot, dried orange peel, marzipan, tangerine and bruised apple.High acidity, medium+ finish. Was still alive and kicking on day 3. 92-93

    Poured blind to the tasting partners and it was a split between old chenin and old white burgundy

  • 2014 Oliviere Rivière Vinos Rioja Mirando al Sur

    Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja

    Not sure what to make of this wine. The nose and palate seem to be from two different wines, an hour in the decanter didn’t help to bring them together. Medium+ intensity with a lot (and I do mean A LOT) of celery, some kiwi, petrol, firestone and salmiac. Medium+ acidity, medium finish. Mouth coating oily texture. Not flawed, but not rated

  • 2015 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    [Tasted blind] I called white Bourgogne, Cote de Beaune village level. Lemon, lime, pear, melon, white peach, hint of nutmeg, a green note, apricot, salty. Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish. 91-92

    Others got more minerality, chalkiness, pointing to Chablis.

    A bit disappointed with the showing of this bottle. Dolcetta, Barbera and PN were called. Leather, forest ground, cranberry, blue berry, licorice, cherry, balsamico, plum, rhubarb. High acidity, medium tannins, medium finish

  • 2005 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Cuvée Roussanne Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Bought at an auction, this was on my bucket list for quite a while. White rioja and Hermitage were called. This showed beautifully tonight, developed obviously but still very much standing. Medium+ intensity with honey, marzipan, almond, dried apricot, creme brulee, dried apple, mocca. Very oily in the mouth with firestone, tangerine, orange peel, medium acidity, long finish. 93-94

  • 1993 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie

    According to the Wine Advocate Vintage overview 1993 is the only vintage of the last 40 years to be considered “appalling”. For such a weak vintage, it is impressive what is still standing after 30 years. Medium intensity with smoke, bacon, some black fruit left, pipe tabacco, a green note, iodine. Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish

    As this is the only “appalling” vintage in recent history, I’m really looking forward to my other LaLaLa’s. Despite the vintage, this was lovely. Bacon, black berry, meaty, cigar ash, a green note, fire stone. Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, medium finish

  • 1995 Château Trotanoy 92 Points

    Better on the nose than on the palate, but still improved the next day. Medium intensity, velvety with leather, black fruit, plum, black berry, black cherry, ceder, cassis, bell pepper. Medium+ acidity, high (quite rough) tannins, medium+ finish. Or not perfectly stored in the past or already over the top

    After 16 years still so much fruit! Medium+ intensity on the nose with plum, black ripe cherries, bacons, spices, vacurub, licorice, sweet fruit. Medium acidity, medium+ finely engrained tannins, very long finish. The 15% abv does show. 92-93

    Much better showing than last time, especially on day 3. Kromesky, black berry, plum on day 1, on day 3 red fruit, iodine, coffee, leather. Medium+ acidity, high tannins, medium+ finish
