WSET 2 group tasting (My place, Utrecht, NL): Bought at an auction, this was on my bucket list for quite a while. White rioja and Hermitage were called. This showed beautifully tonight, developed obviously but still very much standing. Medium+ intensity with honey, marzipan, almond, dried apricot, creme brulee, dried apple, mocca. Very oily in the mouth with firestone, tangerine, orange peel, medium acidity, long finish. 93-94

I was worried that the wine would be already on its way down, but boy was I wrong. Colour clearly indicated an "aged" wine, golden. Also some caramel in the nose pointed into that direction. Alcohol was well integrated, acidity paired super well with the more sweeter fruity core. Long ending. I do not see a lot of additional upside, but I am also not concerned to keep it a few more years.

Past peak in my view. Thoroughly enjoyable but the 14% alcohol is noticeable as the fruit, honey has taken second place. Don’t get me wrong, this is in a decent place, just dropping off.

This bottle was acceptable with some interest when coravin'd 10 months ago, but once open quickly collapsed into a strange fruitless astringent mess.
