Tasting from barrels of 2022. First time I tasted the difference in real life between wine in a barrel of old oak and a barrel of brand new oak which was the case for Les Clos. The difference was of course huge, clear cedar from the oak, of course not yet integrated.
Amazing to experience the difference in style between Raveneau and William Fevre as well as between Arnoux-Lachaux and Roumier.
Needed a long time in the glass to opening up. Boring in the beginning (lemon and liquorice - rating 89) but after half an hour extremely nice nutty aromas etc. began developing and the rating ended at 93. Excellent glass

Not even close to Raveneau Monts Mains 2016 which is only 1. cru and which I rated 93. Let me stress according to my taste. Fevre is a more stringent style than Raveneau's fuller bodied style. No further tasting notes taken.

High acidity, medium+ intensity intensity and Medium finish. Based on this wine I do not quite understand why this producer is so hyped. No further notes taken and no rating given.

Tasted against Roumier Les Cras 1. cru. Both producers are extremely popular and hyped. However the styles are very different.
Arnoux-Lachaux is a middle ground between a natural wine and the classical Bourgogne style (but more natural than classical): Extremely fruity with lots of cherry and strawberry. High acidity, medium tannin, medium+ intensity and long finish. Medium Ruby color. 95
Roumier on the other hand is savoury in style (not close to the fruitiness of Arnoux-Lachaux), red fruit notes but also closed at the moment. High acidity, medium tannin, intensity and finish. Medium ruby color. 93+

Visit at Trapet Pere & Fils. Tasted 10 cuvees from Trapet: 6 btls. from Bourgogne and 4 from Alsace. The clear winner was Le Chambertin 2006, which was nothing but outstanding. I rated it 97. Long after followed Chapelle Chambertin 2017 and Latricieres Chambertin 2011 which I rated 91.
Tasted at Domaine Trapet Pere & Fils. Aromas of grapefruit, lemon etc. and also wet stone. Excellent

This wine: As mentioned it was just outstanding. I notice that WA has only rated it 89. The reason must be it was back in 2009... I actually rated the complex aromas 98: Still fruit of cherry, red currant, strawberry and also tertiary notes of forest flor, farm yard, mushroom. A subtle scent of cedar. I rated the palate 95+ with Medium- tannins, medium alcohol and body, medium+ intensity and long finish. That leaves me with an overall rating of 97

Does not taste and smell like Gewurtztraminer. That's why I like it. Medium acidity and full bodied.

Tasting of vintage 2022 from Barrels - 7 cuvees. Clos de Beze was my favourite (93) in front of Le Chambertin (92).
Tasting of vintage 2022 from Barrels. Incredibly important point from Ms. Rousseau under our visit: She emphasized that the wine in the barrels changes from hour to hour until it stabilizes around February/March after the harvest year. One moment it's in harmony and balance, the next it's not. Therefore, relying on barrel samples to a very limited extent is advisable. It must be almost impossible for the professional reviewers or perhaps they are equipped with magical abilities...
My notes are based on the performance of the wine in the barrels at the time I tasted them. They will evolve positively over time. Clos de Beze was my favourite (93) in front of Le Chambertin (92).
This wine: High acidity and medium+ acidity. 90

This wine: The most fruity of Rousseau's portfolio. According to Ms. Rousseau because it is the one of Rousseau's vineyard plots that faces the sun mostly because of the slope. Lots of cherry but also yet unintegrated cedar from the barrel. Medium+ acidity and high tannins. 93

This wine: Half bottle - maybe therefor it was extremely disappointing. Not what I am used to from other producers from Chevalier Montrachet. Usually my favourite white vineyard (after Le Montrachet...). Most expressive on the palate, not that much on the nose. Reduction in the beginning but could be swirled away. Lemon, peach, apricot and toffee. Medium acidity, medium+ intensity on the palate and long finish. 89+

Have had enough wine, therefor only 1 bottle for dinner. Arnoux-Lachaux.
Medium ruby color. Style in between natural wine and classical style. Not as good as Echezeaux also from Arnoux-Lachaux. Very fruity dominated by strawberry and cherry. Medium- acidity, medium tannin and intensity. Long finish

Extremely nice visit. The tour around the winery and the cellar - tasting so many cuvees from different barrels and also bottled wines including a lot of interesting winemaker points - was extremely interesting. Thank you. The best wine was Chassagne Montrachet 2014., which is the only one I have rated.
The classical style. No notes taken

Three outstanding wines tasted.
Outstanding. For some reason no disgorgement date indicated on the bottle (the field was empty). Typical oxidative style from Selosse which I love so much when it works. You never quite know with Selosse, but this bottle was perfect. Notes of bread dough, lemon, overripe apple, toffee, nutty. High acidity, delicate mousse and long finish. Wow 96+

Raveneau 2022 barrel samples - tasted the following cuvees - rating based on performance from the barrel, not the final btl. Take the ratings as proof the wines are expected to develop and improve materially during the subsequent maturation!

- Petit Chablis: 86, Pale lemon green, green apple and licorice
- Chablis: 87, Medium lemon green, green apple, no licorice, Medium+ acidity, Medium- finish
- Vaillons: 87+, Medium lemon green, medium acidity, green apple, more concentrated than PC and C, medium finish
- Forets: 88, pale lemon green, as expected more concentrated
- Montmain: 89, high acidity, dominated by lemon, more body than the first four cuvees
- Butteaux: 88, slightly deeper colour, very closed at the moment, lemon and licorice, medium+ acidity and finish
- Montee de Tonnerre: 88, also very closed, medium+ acidity, short finish
- Blanchot: 89, average age of vines are 80 years. More open and concentrated, lemon, licorice. Medium+ acidity
- Valmur: 90, Medium lemon green, Even more open and concentrated than Blanchot. blossom aromas. Almost high acidity.
- Les Clos: 91+, Tasted both a barrel with old oak an brand new oak. The difference was of course huge, clear cedar from the oak, of course not yet integrated. The colour was between Valmur and Blanchot. High concentration, lemon and grapefruit. High acidity and medium finish.
