Bourgogne visit 29/10-1/11-2023: Tasted against Roumier Les Cras 1. cru. Both producers are extremely popular and hyped. However the styles are very different. Arnoux-Lachaux is a middle ground between a natural wine and the classical Bourgogne style (but more natural than classical): Extremely fruity with lots of cherry and strawberry. High acidity, medium tannin, medium+ intensity and long finish. Medium Ruby color. 95 Roumier on the other hand is savoury in style (not close to the fruitiness of Arnoux-Lachaux), red fruit notes but also closed at the moment. High acidity, medium tannin, intensity and finish. Medium ruby color. 93+

In 2018 the Echezeaux is slightly more fragrant but lighter than the Clos Vougeot. Lifted stemmy rose petal with mixed fruits and cool climate gravel-y minerality. Medium bodied and arguably Premier Cru intensity like most Echezeaux. (90/100)
