Bourgogne visit 29/10-1/11-2023: Tasted 6 different cuvees in Bouchard's cellar. Limited comments. This wine: Medium ruby high intensity but without appropriate concentration. Cherry and liquorice. Rustic.

Very expressive on the nose, more so than I was expecting for a 2017 Volnay at this stage. Sweet earth, mushrooms, damp garden smells, crushed flower petals. Some sweeter red berries emerged over time. More expansive and sweet on the palate, with red fruits leading into a bright finish. Palate and finish could use a bit more depth, but I'd bet on these coming with more age. Very enjoyable overall.

Pinot Noir Zoom tasting. Tasted semi-blind. Drank in Grassl Cru. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, purplish ruby colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of dark red cherries, dark plum, boysenberries, dark floral violets, dark spice, light chalky earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, smooth medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, soft dark plums, boysenberries, violet juice, chalky limestone minerality hiding inside. Broad long finish. Good quality. Nice and pleasant, but seem to be holding back somewhat, lacking focus at the moment. I would suggest that this probably needs another 4+ years at least.

Limestone soil type. Bouchard is telling me more feminine in style. That is outstanding. Such depth.so lengthy notes christinr and she's right. About 25% new oK.
