  • Bourgogne visit 29/10-1/11-2023: Raveneau 2022 barrel samples - tasted the following cuvees - rating based on performance from the barrel, not the final btl. Take the ratings as proof the wines are expected to develop and improve materially during the subsequent maturation!
    - In general for 2022: The acidity does not seem that high. All cuvees are, according to Maxime, treated the same way in the cellar.
    - Petit Chablis: 86, Pale lemon green, green apple and licorice
    - Chablis: 87, Medium lemon green, green apple, no licorice, Medium+ acidity, Medium- finish
    - Vaillons: 87+, Medium lemon green, medium acidity, green apple, more concentrated than PC and C, medium finish
    - Forets: 88, pale lemon green, as expected more concentrated
    - Montmain: 89, high acidity, dominated by lemon, more body than the first four cuvees
    - Butteaux: 88, slightly deeper colour, very closed at the moment, lemon and licorice, medium+ acidity and finish
    - Montee de Tonnerre: 88, also very closed, medium+ acidity, short finish
    - Blanchot: 89, average age of vines are 80 years. More open and concentrated, lemon, licorice. Medium+ acidity
    - Valmur: 90, Medium lemon green, Even more open and concentrated than Blanchot. blossom aromas. Almost high acidity.
    - Les Clos: 91+, Tasted both a barrel with old oak an brand new oak. The difference was of course huge, clear cedar from the oak, of course not yet integrated. The colour was between Valmur and Blanchot. High concentration, lemon and grapefruit. High acidity and medium finish.
