If I would be gunning for some of these wines at the auction, I might have considered posting these notes next week to avoid moving the world market prices... or, well, I guess it wouldn't have mattered anyway... :D
partial disclosure: tried some of these wines while walking around with Serena S. Beyond the red burgundies, she seemed to particularly like the '98 Giacosa Barbaresco. She found the '03 chassagne-montrachet surprisingly good and the '06 Hungarian Tokaji demi-sec a price-worthy curiosity (Post-auction note: it went for less than 1 USD/bottle at the tail end of the auction). some notes may have been slightly inspired by her comments...
2006 Trénel Fils Saint Véran 85 Points
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Saint Véran
that nice combination of buttery texture with the sharp sorrel like freshness is very enticing to me. Not the most complex wine, but very well made and still pretty good.

2006 Vins Auvigue Pouilly-Fuissé La Frairie 86 Points
France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
Dill chips on the nose: and then a very narrow wine, with a thin mouthfeel but extremely long and pleasant finish.

2006 Domaine Jean Collet & Fils Chablis 1er Cru Montmains 84 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
A touch of oak, decent freshness but overall it is a very mellow and rounded out chablis, which fades just a little too fast at the end.

2006 Bruno Colin Chassagne-Montrachet En Journoblot 86 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
here's a fresh fruit palate with grapefruit and apple granité. minerally. good acidity.

2003 Château de Chassagne-Montrachet Chassagne-Montrachet 87 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Good nose, very elegant and with very fine balance for a 2003. Finish is medium long.

2006 Királyudvar Tokaji Demi-Sec 87 Points
Hungary, Tokaji
very different: gooseberry preserve. fresh. weighty. I liked it but would not really know what to pair this with.

2001 Clos Plince 85 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
a bit weedy upfront. but nice pointed herbal tones as well. balance and body is quite allright for 2001.

2001 Château L'Evangile 92 Points
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
very fine stuff: like sitting in a pine wood sauna drinking moccha and eating christmas cake. lots of dark fruit. good acidity and structure. long finish

a lot of spice and dark berries, round and ready to drink. Finish is a bit short.

1996 Dominique Laurent Morey St. Denis Les Pierre Virants 88 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
earthy, with sweet (oaky) fruit. No pinot magic moment for me, but you have to seriously respect a '96 that has not yet emerged from primary flavors and with good enough structure and freshness to be kept longer in the cellar.

1996 Michel Magnien Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
some dry tannins left; starting to be dominated by earth and leather. very good.

1996 Domaine Jacques Prieur Clos Vougeot 97 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
fantastic! forest floor magic with a bed of freshly picked chilled red berries on top. what structure. really drinking well right now. finish goes on and on. going to bed I thought I could still feel the taste of this one particular wine.

1996 Domaine Anne Gros Clos Vougeot Le Grand Maupertui 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
A bit of oak, a lot of red berries. Very primary flavors, not fully on stream yet, excellent balance and fresh acidity as if it had been bottled yesterday. So keep in your cellar by all means if you think there will be more complexity later on. Personally, I am not fully convinced that it will be better than what it already is, but who am I to judge?

1998 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 92 Points
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
this wine is the colour of the deepest well; dark berries, fine perfume - quite sophisticated with figs and anis and cocoa and many other elements. on the palate the wine is a bit more burlesque. I really liked this.

My, this has a particular taste and aroma which just jumps at you. Wild cherries and then some cola nut. Really powerful stuff.

1997 Fratelli Seghesio Barolo Vigneto la Villa 87 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
colour is edging towards brownish red rims, licorice, all spice, round, mature and enjoyable right now but not something to keep for long.

1990 Pieve Santa Restituta (Gaja) Brunello di Montalcino Rennina 89 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
fabulous nose of molten leaves and rhubarb compote. still good acidity and a bit tannic. The only thing that detracts is the finish which ends in a not very good place.

2002 Clarendon Hills Grenache Old Vines Romas 87 Points
Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, Clarendon
viols and leather, some spice. this is good stuff. not overly bold, but not as elegant as the best of its rhone cousins.
