I find that the key to schrader is to slow ox. With air most become disjointed but stay beautiful with a slow ox. This wine really opened up at 3 hours. Full bodied and rich with nice acidty and some earthiness. There is a thickness which keeps it from getting a higher score

Had with a tenderloin and wagyu rib eye for our 40 anniversary. Opened it about a hour before - did not decant. Cherry and blackberries. Dense but very smooth. A tremendous wine for a special day - Schrader never disappoints.

had a few weeks ago. side by side with an 05 Ducru Beaucaillou. had a two hour decant before we started on it and it just got better as it had more time in the glass. really tons of pretty layers of polished red cherry fruit with good acidity. long long finish. the ducru edged it in the beginning but this probably edged the ducru by the end. but both were superlative and i'll rate them both a 95 for now as my tasting notes are multi weeks old and from memory

An awesome wine! Even as a pop and pour this wine was subtle and elegant, while still rich, powerful, and flavorful. I can see why Jeb Dunnuck gave this 100 points; red wines really don’t get much better than this!

Smaak / Afdronk: Wow, een meer dan indrukwekkende concentratie en power. Zoals gebruikelijk met een wat beperkte fraicheur. fluweelzachte tannines. Verleidelijke powerwijn. Algemeen / potentieel: Zoals gezegd, een verleidelijke powerwijn… Waarvan ik zo langzamerhand ga vinden dat het steeds ingewikkelder wordt om de ene van de volgende met tamtam aangekondigde nieuwe ster van elkaar te onderscheiden… 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 13 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 9 = 94/100

Colour: Deep opaque dark red. Aroma / bouquet: Explosive bouquet, serious extraction, packed with dark fruit (blackberries, blackcurrants, cherries), ink, mocha, bitter chocolate. Taste / Aftertaste: Wow, a more than impressive concentration and power. As usual with a somewhat limited freshness. velvety tannins. Seductive power wine. A 65th Birthday Celebration (Schur House - Riverwoods IL): Small glass, tasted twice. Rich black fruit and liqueur, this is so opulent and nearly sweet, so not exactly my ideal wine style, but yet this easily manages a combination of fruit, spice, and structure that makes this come across as balanced and very interesting.

Layers of delicious dark ripe cherry, blackberry, and currant with oaky notes on the nose and silky rich palate. Culminates in a long finish with well resolved tannins.

Tasted after about an hour of air.
Noticeable VA on the nose with plum and black fruit in the background.
Med+ body, low acid, med+ tannin.
Not sure what to make of this given others have enjoyed it recently. Perhaps an off bottle but certainly not something I would want to hold on to any longer.

Decanted for 2 hours. Dinner at Miller and Lux. Very aromatic with notes of blackberry, licorice, graphite and cassis. Super silky, borderline plush palate, red and black fruits delivered in layers. Complex and constantly evolving palate that was thoroughly enjoyable.

Layered, expressive, and ripe Napa Cabernet with dark blackberry fruit. Classic notes of mocha, dark chocolate, cassis along with hints of vanilla and spice on the finish. After a 60 minute decant, this becomes silky smooth with tannins that beautifully integrate into the fruit. Absolutely give this time in a decanter/glass before drinking.

Friendsgiving Dinner (Schur House - Riverwoods IL): Walkaround tasting. My first time tasting RBS from 2016, and it is certainly one of the finest Schrader wines I have ever tasting, almost certainly the most refined and elegant.

A lot of sour cherry on first taste - this kind of mellowed in the glass with a bit more dark fruits and a smidge of mocha. Tannins have mellowed but linger with a long smooth finish. Drink or Hold.

Decanted 8 hours. Fruit bursts and a finish that goes on for miles. Explodes in your mouth and changes by the minute in the glass. Amazing what they can do with Las Piedras.
