France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Small glass, tasted twice. Floral and well spice aromas with yellow and green apple. Excited aromas were met with brooding palate, really firm and unforthcoming for now. Give until 2028 forward.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Small glass, tasted twice. Floral and minty start with ripe apple, with everything following through on the palate. Not a powerhouse, but so well balanced this is a real charmer. So goon now thru 2033 or so.
Popped-and-poured. Tasted a couple times over the next hour. Classically bright Chablis with lemon, green apple aromas and flavors. Faintly floral support, then gobs of mineral textures. Very good elngth. Entering its peak drinking window.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Small glass, tasted twice. Popped-decanted-and-poured. Rich red cherry throughout, wonderfully spiced. More mature than I would expect from this producer/ appellation/ vintage, but still very rich and enticing. I'd say 92 points today, but not certain if representative.
Small glass, tasted twice. Alluring ripe black cherry and currant aromas and flavors with hints of cassis, anise, mint, and roasted beef. Still slightly taut in the middle, this is very tasty with enough reserve to open up well in the decade to come.
Small glass. Charming and complex aromas with mature fruit and savory spice that doesn't fully re-emerge in the flavors. Also complex, but more mature and nearly hollow.
USA, California, Napa Valley, Spring Mountain District
Small glass from magnum. Very lush aromatic start with ripe black fruits and liqueur. Less distinguished or distinguishing on palate, but still tasty while clearly ripe.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Decanted for almost an hour before tasting, then re-visited a few times over the next hour. Rich spice of both the savory and sweet variety with black cherry, plum, and liqueur that show wonderful richness with complexity layered together. Very good now with further upside.
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Small glass. While not exactly my style, this is opulent and fleshy but with some proper degree of structural proportion, so I was able to find some enjoyment here, as opposed to the Carlisle Vineyard wine from the same vintage just tasted.
Small glass. Faintly dirty but good black cherry and plum that made it through easily with good depth. 89 points to me today, but I'm not sure if representative.
Small glass, tasted twice. Rich black fruit and liqueur, this is so opulent and nearly sweet, so not exactly my ideal wine style, but yet this easily manages a combination of fruit, spice, and structure that makes this come across as balanced and very interesting.
