As with the Doriane, the bouquet changed and opened up over time. Unlike the Doriane, though, Rand says, the taste hasn't changed much. The bouquet is again persistent and compelling, and just a pleasure -- floral, with a little citrus (Rand says) while to me it seems a little like Grand Marnier. The palate is a little less compelling but still pleasant, not as ravishing as the nose. We're novices at Condrieu, so maybe it is more oaked and vanilla-ed than more traditional ones. However, until we try them, this is pretty good. The finish is great.

Less intoxicatingly fragrant and flamboyant than the previous bottle, and the oak was more pronounced. It opened up over about an hour. Deb says, "You can smell the oak, but you don't taste it so much." Glycerin-like smoothness and balance. We all enjoyed it but just less so than previously. Still a good complement to fresh pasta with butter and herbs. Don't know if it's bottle variation or just quickly aging. With the exception of comments on food, I agree largely with Christoffer78.

This started out a little restrained, but the bouquet opened up into something wonderful -- lilies, vanilla, really overwhelming after 1/2 or so of opening. On the palate, evolved from something very anise-y into a wine so floral and rich that it's difficult to pinpoint. The finish isn't very long, but is very satisfying. Paired with fresh pasta with sage/thyme/scallion/parley and asparagus in butter sauce with parmesan -- so perfect. Important to let it open up a bit and not serve very chilled, but decanting might be overkill for us. Would definitely buy again, even at what for us is more costly than usual.

The nose is subtle, barely fragrant but pleasant enough. We paired this with a pasta with artichokes and tarragon, and the wine matched this perfectly -- was probably best with food, as it highlighted some of the herbal/anise/celery-like qualities in the wine. After the taste, the finish was the best part of this for me -- subtle and not very concentrated (as was the sip), but long and persistent. Everything is perfectly in balance, not a rough edge on it. With that said, it's not so interesting that I'd seek out more. It was an excellent complement to well-prepared food, but middling on its own.

A fresh, stony nose and fruit that is still vibrant - with savory acidity that isn't overpowering but present/refreshing. Good length. I'd gladly drink again.

2010 Artesa Chardonnay Carneros

5/6/2012 - P&F wrote: 88 points

we're going with the herd and saying 88.
Color: straw, like vegetable oil with a bit of grassy tinge
Nose: wet stones with a glimmer of something tropical, Rand say melon, too.
Taste: At this point the oak could integrate a bit, but not bad. Vanilla, some kind of fruit that is partially masked by oakiness.
Finish:15 or so seconds, nothing remarkable.

an excellent everyday bottle, nothing fancy, but Artesa remains one of our favorites from everyday to special.

Started out a little flat, decanting for 1-1/2 hours helped a lot -- the nose came out after 2 or so. Pleasant, very slightly chewy, cherry/cola. Moderate-long finish. I'd buy again at $30.

Flamboyant nose of sweet fruit and cloves, with terrific fruit on the palate - sweet raspberries, maybe a bit of cola, and hints of tart on the lovely finish. Another lovely Sunday evening wine.

This is a lovely wine, but with the other ratings/descriptions here I was expecting more. It's clearly very good, pleasant to drink, with nice concentration, but is lacking in complexity. I'd get it again but not at $40-ish.

I like an austere Bordeaux. Too dry for others at the table, somewhat more structure/austere than the 2009. It could be more fruited, and I would not call it complex, but at the $30 or so I paid for it years ago, it's just fine. There is no way this is worth the $76 Vivino has it for now - it's good, basic Bordeaux that won't likely improve.

nose of angelica and citron, and it's almost as though you can smell the acidity. Bone dry with minerality, like a young sancerre in nature but a very different flavor profile (although Rand says he gets green apple). medium finish of 20 to 30 secs.... the acidity keeps on giving.

nose is beachball out of the wrapper, or rand says unused disposable diaper, as well as tobacco and vegetal notes.... taste is congruent, with peppery sour cherries. Finish is on the shorter side but clean. very, very enjoyable and will always keep as a standard but impressive bottle. not for long life.

Much more pleasant and fruited than the other vintage we tried of this. Subtle cherry and earth on the nose, and a lovely balanced palate. A smidgen of sweetness that keeps it fresh rather than distracts. Continued balance on the finish. Overpriced at $40 because it is very balanced but lacks complexity.

Rand says that it's good but, "Outstanding? I don't think this tastes Outstanding." So, it gets an 89. Nose of molasses or maybe a little tar. As for taste it is rich, new worldy, modern, plummy or even pruney, a bit of smoke (according to Rand, again). It's definitely good, and definitelly good for the price, but too fruit forward for me.

Nose of buttery vanilla, caramel. None of the tropical notes I expected. Taste again suggesting oak rather than tropicality, although we can see where passionfruit and pineapple might have played a role. Nice enough finish, but overall, we'd all be upset if we'd paid the usual retail of $45...

I want to convince myself that it's better, but it's not. Mild and uninteresting nose of stony chardonnay, and an acidic palate that really needs food. With some sautéed sole and buttery spinach it's more acceptable. No finish to reminisce over. A basic Chablis that gives good introductory flavors but nothing really interesting.

Yet another experience with this. Flamboyant nose of iodine, stone and peaches; "chewable" Rand would say, in the mouth, minerally and fruity, with a terrifically persistent finish. It was better on day 2 (we drank half and refrigerated the rest to have tonight). Maybe it's not on the decline and my previous bottle was just a bad variant. Who can say.

We had this about 6 months ago and this bottle is quite different... age or bottle variation, can't say. The nose is not fruity on this one, rather petrolly, could be a rich riesling. The palate is also not the honeyed, ripe fruit I remember but something stonier and minerally. It is still interesting and good, and the finish is complex and long, but I would drink up. This bottle lacked the previous exuberance.
