Deep red. Dark fruit on the nose. This has developed nicely with elegant, but multilayered fruit, minerals, white pepper, and seems to have the fruit, acid and tannins in perfect harmony. Although these have had some bottle variation this one was right on target.

This is the finest this wine has tasted for me. Had this hauntingly amazing cherry/kirsch flavor. The fruit is still primary, but the texture and integration have improved immensely. The wine is intense and concentrated and while it is a full bodied wine, it is balanced and not over the top. I'd love to sneak this into a Chateauneuf de Pape tasting with some of the bolder styles. I know there is a lot of criticism of Clarendon Hills, but I think the wine needed some time to settle down. It is a beauty now.

With over 1,000 notes, this is only my third 96 rating. Popped, double vinaerated and left to breathe for four hours. Deep, dense, dark eggplant color with a dark garnet rim, using the fresh snow and sun as a backdrop for the color analysis. Wonderful fragrance of dark fruit. WOW, WOW, WOW - what a powerful, focused fruit forward taste, medium/heavy body, best integration of tannis ever, nice balance of fruit and acidy with a finish that is dark berry driven for well over 10 minutes. - really!! Numerous hidden gems over, under and around this wine that makes the experience even more enjoyable. Consumed during and after an English beef pot roast dinner 4 hours total. Great for sipping.

More for me, I guess. If you're looking for a less-concentrated wine from down under, allow me to recommend yellow tail.

Pop and pour ... This is aging so nicely. It is smooth and round, with a great balance of lush, up-front fruit and an earthy mid. Short finish, but nicely dry and clearly balanced with little or no heat to be found. As we finish our half-case (naturally) this one is really hitting its stride. Just lovely and a screaming bargain at $25/bottle. One of the few Aussies I've truly enjoyed long term.

5/17/2017 - tomherer Likes this wine: 93 points

Not the finest Guiraud ever made, sure, but a CT average a hair over 90? No, this is much finer than that.

Super spicy, in a great way. Pears, the kind of french vanilla syrup you get a shot of in your coffee, toasted coconut, orange marmalade, underripe papaya. Still youthful after a decade+ -- unlikely to improve a ton from here, but could still reach classic (~95) levels before it's all over...

Appearance: Clear, medium (-) intensity gold color, with watery rims and legs
Nose: Clean, medium intensity and developing aromas of acacia, lemon peel, apricot, honey, oak and nutty.
Palate: Sweet, of medium acidity balancing the sweetness so not feeling any cloying and very refreshing. Medium alcohol, full body with medium intensity flavors of honeysuckle, honey, lemon, pineapple, apricot, oak and nutty. Medium length.
Conclusion: Good quality Sauternes with a refreshing palate, more alike with Barsac in having a fresh acidity/sweetness balance. Reasonable length and intensity, with a good complexity particularly on the palate. Ready to drink now but can further age and develop for another 7-10 years.

Served blind. Somewhat consistent tn's, however, this one really had a mineral edge that placed it firmly in the White Burg camp, so no real surprises when it was unveiled. Lovely focus and tension between acids and fruit. The buttery aspects seemed to stay at the perimeter, the fruit very fresh, lifted. Recommended, 13,5% abv, drink thru 2016, score: B+/A-

Another 94 pointer at Cowboy Ciao Scottsdale. If you love wine and can get here, get here.

Opened a half bottle as an apertif and held the rest for their "Cereal, Killer" dessert, which was a crazy good pairing. The wine has its textbook musty smell at first, which becomes subtle with air. Liquid nectarine, pebbly, weightless, good lift and energy, subtle finish that lingers all night.

8/8/2016 8:50:00 PM - Wow Kirk, does that ever bring back memories. Remember going to Miyake when they were on Spring St. and I had an apartment on State. One of the first times the wine bug set in for life was there, with a BYO bottle of Chapoutier Granits Blanc. The sea urchin was the surprise pairing winner. Like it was yesterday...

As far as a tasting group, I haven't found one around here yet. Although with chasing after the kids and keeping up with work, it's prob. more for a lack of effort. A small group of us do get together at the Hundred Club in Portsmouth though -- nothing formal, just taking advantage of their corkage policy and deep reserves of wine, knowledge, stems, cheese, etc. It's a lot of fun -- if you're ever through seacoast NH let me know and we'll fill some glasses.

7/24/2016 10:11:00 AM - Greetings fellow Mainiac! The dessert is basically an oatmeal cookie baked into a low creme brûlée dish, topped with frosted flake ice cream and brittle, with a caramel sauce around and under the cookie.

On its own it's (almost painfully) sweet, but the wine added a bright airy dimension. Almost like a light, tart fruit sauce had been added to the dish. Together, you had all the dimensions -- earthiness from the oatmeal and the wine's minerality, cold and creamy, sweet, bright and fruity. And the contrast in temperature between the warm cookie/caramel and the cold wine (kept it in a bath throughout dinner) was wonderful.

Am going to recreate this when I get back home either with the QdC or maybe a young/fresh Sauternes...

light golden in color, getting almonds overripe peaches and pears, durian fruit. Palate much less intense - light citrus, lemon curd, putty and supporting acidity. Mouth is oily, viscous. Has a faint hydrogen peroxide lingering aftertaste. Total pleasure to drink this bottle. One of the most expressive wines I have found in this price range. Sadly, I think it is my last.
Cooled from home cellar by burying in the snow for about 30 minutes to get the temp down.

There's a lot going on in the glass, starting with an enchanting aroma that instantly transports you to a New World barrel room. Deep straw hued, luscious legs and a bouquet that moves from barrel room to fields of flowers. I would have gladly stopped there. But the palate is equally enthralling. Gobs of honeyed white plums, mandarin oranges and flecks of grapefruit zest and lemon pith, complemented by notes of brook-soaked pebbles and minerals. Air reveals some nutty butterscotch notes, all kept lively -- and food friendly -- by precise acidity. Full bodied. Great texture. A blend of four varietals, mostly Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. Such precision, freshness and flavor, all for only $13. I'm thinking this won't be a candidate for long-term cellaring, since it's so fresh, lively and complex right now. Plus, I won't be able to resist cracking open the remaining bottles. Try it with lobster or sand dabs. Delicious!
