Candied blueberry, fruit-cocktail favors and new oak--each component at full throttle and going in a different direction. The antithesis of nuanced.

Drank our second bottle tonight in as many weeks. Yummy stuff that just kind of goes down effortlessly, and I managed to pay a little attention this time.

Fairly light color saturation (for new world syrah - i.e. you can see through it). Nose is raw wood notes, tobacco, plums, vanilla and a touch of menthol or eucalyptus. In the mouth it's irresistably delicious. Dark fruit and coffee and chocolate. Mouthfilling and super soft with a shot of acidity hidden under the fruit and ripe, round tannins that give a little tug. Decent finish echoes the primary flavors with an added vanilla dimension. A tad heavy on the new oak for my taste, but overall an unusually good bottle of fruit-forward syrah and a super value at $15. Open and drink.

Drank with the Curry's at the house. A near perfect representation of what it is which is: over-the-top shiraz. Fruit driven, big new oak influence and a little sweet. I can enjoy this in the right frame of mind, but it take some effort. DRE's notes below are right on the money for me.

interesting and enjoyable and good fruit coming through after an our or so, but mostly unremarkable and too funky to crave.

At the very outer edge of advanced. Moderate to heavy oxidation. Too bad because there's still a ton of depth and length and minerality and good secondary flavors.

With dinner at the bar at August in New Orleans. First glass was from a (warm) bottle opened previous day. Subsequent glasses from newly opened bottle slighly chilled. Experiences similar. Leather, earth and smoke in the nose. Fruit is cherry and cassis. Overall lean and tart with a floral dimension on the finish and a big dose of oak throughout. Tannins are light and mid-pallete acid lingers through the finish. Mildly interesting departure from my new world pinot rut, but the usual argument for this sort of wine is that it's food friendly. In that regard I think I gave it ample opportunity to shine (truffles, duck confit, gnocci, blue cheese, etc.), but it really didn't.

light yeasty nose and lemon dominate. one dimensional and lean, but clean flavors and a fine bead. turns a little green and puckery on the finish. Disgorged July 2014. At $30 this would be pretty appealing as a light aperitif, but it was probably more than that.

Dark fruit, smoke, black pepper. A little too much green-olive, vegetal tinge around the edges, but that integrates with a little time? Satisfying combo of linear, precise flavors, ripeness and grip.

quality issues with these BPW '07 CDPs continue. is this heat damage? i'd venture that the vintage was just impossibly ripe and the wines have turned into oxidized mess, but that's not evident from the notes of others. this was pretty much undrinkable.

First of these 2007 CDPs from BPW that doesn't smell of oxidized, stewed fruits. Nose leads with earth, smoke and herbs followed by ripe red and dark fruit. Concentrated and long, but with structure. Runs a little hot, but really enjoyable overall.

Virtually indistinguishable from generic vintage port. Another reviewer wrote something akin to that and it's dead-on. Or cheap Amarone. Opened a bottle last night and didn't finish bc it tasted so overripe and oxidized and hot. Alongside a Saxum Broken Bones, which seemed restrained by comparison. Leftovers were even worse today, so opened a second bottle straight from the cellar, assuming a flaw in #1. Same experience. No bueno.

Bright, fresh and well delineated flavors, in spite of the ridiculous concentration and ripeness. Finishes hot and chewy with lingering wood notes. Not my favorite, but maybe it integrates better and settles down with time. LP enjoyed more than me. Try again in 2020?

Tempting nose followed by delicious, intense dark berry and cherry fruit up front. These flavors then get overwhelmed (for my taste) by leather and tobacco. Tannins still pretty grippy. Probably better integrated in a year or two. Paid $46 for this. Not a favorite at that price point.

Big dark fruit flavors, plus smoke and meaty depth. Chewy with a long, sweet smoky/oaky finish. On the negative side, it wouldn't be wrong to label this as brash and loud or obvious. Ripeness is on the verge of over-the-top (you smell it right away) and the oak hits you like a hammer. Overall, a lot to love and not much to hate, but it's in that ultra-forward style that annoys some people. I don't want to drink this every day, but it has its place. And it's a ton wine for the money. Amazing value. Mandatory to decant a few hours.
