5/26/2014 - farinas Likes this wine: 93 pointsThe Best of Argentina (Private Residence (Miami, FL)): Dark full body red color with lots of purple on the edges. Intense aroma of ripe black fruits, almost compote-like, with gentle new oak vanillin. Palate is harmonious fruit-forward with nice depth and medium spiced finish. This is a beautiful wine with very soft tannins. Drinking very well presently. |

Palate is rich and bold with lots of dark fruit but more classic in style. The tannins are broad and suggestive of the wine's youth. Finish is medium to long with impeccable power. Hold it for another 5-7 years and you will be rewarded. 94+ |

2/22/2015 - farinas Likes this wine: 92 pointsSOBEWFF '15 Domaines Barons de Rothschild. This wine really held its own against Evangile and Duhart Milon. Dark garnet. Bouquet is perfumed with flowers and a touch of spice, subtle graphite, red currants. The palate is elegant and the tannins are plush with a smooth finish. Bravo! |

10/13/2012 - farinas Likes this wine: 93 pointsblood red color beautiful, closed but very pleasant nose with a knack for evolving with every whif, bright entry with a little less sharpeness than perfection, supple body and a medium finish (Graziano). This wine is alive first is closed, then it smells like a Bordeaux, then it's like pound cake. Great effort and value |

3/19/2013 - farinas wrote: 91 pointsColor is full body, nose needs patience but eventually a slew of aromas arise. In them new oak seems to overpower the currants and raspberries. Entry could use a bit more acid and is very tannic with finish being dry and bit hot. |

10/13/2012 - farinas Likes this wine: 90 pointsDark red color with dark berries, graphite and spices on the nose, pasty entry with tasty tannins, lush body of fruit with medium finish. Excellent value ($16) from Argentina, this wine can go head to head against any Napa full body red at twice its price, as it delivers harmony between fruit, tannins, and alcohol levels. Most wines under $20 will deliver competent bouquets but fail to accompany them with lush body and lenghty finishes (this does it all) |

2008 Bodega Catena Zapata Malbec ArgentinoMendoza more |
5/26/2014 - farinas Likes this wine: 95 pointsThe Best of Argentina (Private Residence (Miami, FL)): Wine of the night for many, but a close tie to the Achaval Mirador '08. This Malbec shows dark full body color with plenty of violet. The beautiful bouquet displays very ripe black and blue fruits with violets, blackberries and blueberries. There is also a port-like sweetness accentuated by licorice resembling some of the best Australian Shiraz. Palate is muscular with thick long-ageing tannins and beautiful medium to long finish with fruits, spices, and oak. This is excellent stuff with another 10 years to maturity, and a generous amount of fruit to shine in the years to come. 95+ |

10/29/2012 - farinas Likes this wine: 92 points(tasted twice) strong deep red color, elegant bouquet of ripe berries with plum and toasted oak, with a lively entry and soft round tannins, full body with sweet notes and hint of tobacco with medium finish (Costco). Compared to Tikal, Catena Alta has a more consistent and hedonistic nose throughout, yet the rest of the wine is identical save for some varietal differences. |

12/14/2012 - farinas wrote: 90 pointsGlass staining deep red full body color (beautidful), nose full of ripe berries, plum, herbs, spice and new oak very much like a hot vintage Napa valley Cab, entry is subtle in terms of acid but some spice and heat are coming through, meanwhile after all the front end excitement the mid palate is a bit hollow with bell pepper and sweetnes melded together, finish is also lighter than expected (some of its youth is seen here). Overall a pretty and perfumed wine lacking stuffing and finish is what you get with this wine. |

The cooler Adelaide Hills fruit shines through on the bouquet with a floral fresh racy berries. Thick chewy tannins on the palate with hints of espresso and black pepper. 2001 Penfolds GrangeSouth Australia Shiraz Blend, Syrah more |
2/26/2018 - farinas Likes this wine: NRSobeWFF. My first experience with Grange and it’s definitely a must have if you can afford it. 100% American oak. Grange brings a sweet and racy dark fruits sprinkled with a dusty salinity that is extremely rewarding and refreshing at the same time. This 2001 is aging well with tertiary flavors of dried herbs and smoked meats, and a port-like disposition coming along and a Bourbon-like tinge of sweet must. The palate is fat and I mean it in a good way, chewy fatty tannins that are sweet and a joy to have. This is a generational wine for your grandkids - superb. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Tannins are dense and pasty with a lively acidity and a bit fiery feel followed by stewed red fruits with toasted old oak notes at the medium finish. It has good vinificación and structure but the fruit takes on a second role. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |
