A bit of oak on the nose, more open in comparison, layered, notes of earth, spices, mushrooms, lovely fruit, hints of minerality. On the palate quite restrained, powerful tannins with some fruit peaking through. Superbly balanced, very complete, fresh, bright, with ripe, polished tannins. Very long and lingering. Amazing wine already, but likely better in 3-5+ years. 97-98+ |

1/26/2017 - ralleceniw Likes this wine: 98 pointsClassic Barolo from an exceptional vintage. Surprisingly balanced tannins given the age, drinkable now but with structure that will ensure long aging. Would not be surprised if this can go 50+ years. Tasted along with 2010 Sandrone Le Vigne. The Runcot is superior. |

11/9/2016 - rossi.wine wrote: 98 pointsTasted after 2012 Barolo Chiniera and Casa Maté. Wonderful depth and finesse on the nose. Floral notes, crushed stones, spices, herbs, earth, and of course ripe, dark stone fruit. On the palate lots of structure - the tannins are ripe and polished, but seriously powerful. Lots of drive and lift, wonderful balance and length. Spicy, mineral, brooding, fresh. Exceptional, but it will of course need lots of patience. Although pretty much all 2012 Barolo at this tasting were impressive, the 2010 Riserva by Grasso and Cavallotto (San Giuseppe) stole the show for me. 97-98+ |

10/9/2016 - JulianSkeels Likes this wine: 98 pointsInitial nose of cranberry, raspberry, balsamic, ginger, lavender and crushed rock which becomes sweeter and more like cherry cola and diverse sweet spices with air. Not as aromatic as I recall from March this year. In the mouth it is incredibly intense, full-bodied and mouth-filling with sweet balsamic and tar dominant (a signature taste of these wines at maturity too). With air the flavours begin to evolve wonderfully with great definition - sweet spices, then sweet plum, sweet new leather, liquorice, forest floor, and smoke. The finish almost has the strong grip of a fine old Cognac - in a way that reminds me of the 1935 Cappellano Barolo at the moment (see my separate note). Compelling stuff. |

8/26/2016 - JulianSkeels Likes this wine: 98 pointsI tried this wine with the Grasso family back in March, but they wanted to keep quiet and give this time before public release in September. Out of respect for such a lovely family, I've also kept quiet since then. Now it's almost September... this by far the best Runcot yet. A fantastic wine, only just bottled when I tried it - needing time to settle but there is clear greatness here. Powerful deep nose and LONG and intense finish with lovely hints of orange. Superb. Absolute phenolic ripeness, with acidity not too high. Used only toasted oak for 48 months, longer than regular bottlings. I recently enjoyed a bottle of the 97 Runcot from my cellar, which was full of tar. The 2010 adds far greater aromatic complexity and both depth and breadth of flavours. There are no critics score (or even other CT notes) on this yet - but trust me and just buy as much as you can when it is released. Tasted alongside the Chiniera and Casa Mate 2012s and it blew them away. This is easily 98+pts for me and should be at peak from 2025-2040. A 'wow' wine that may not be quite as perfect as the 2007 Vietti Riserva Villero I recently enjoyed, but I would still rather have the 2010 Runcot in my glass... |

Polished texture with a long finish - One of the outright stars of the 2010 Barolo's. Very distinctive, you would pick this one out blind every time. Not a shy wine compared to its peers but such a beautiful nose and full tilt hit of concentrated cherry cola like fruit. I'm in love just like everyone else I saw taste this. |

8/21/2022 - TomC1369 Likes this wine: 97 pointsOpened 5 hours before. Then decanted three hours before. Still very slow to reveal itself. But once it does it is stellar. That startling mix of intensity and weightlessness. It needs food - for us summer truffle with pasta and aubergine parmigiana - better with the latter. The last glass was that extraordinary combination of porcini and a Scottish kelp forest. Give it air and give it food. It may gather weight over the next decade but it is no crime to enjoy it now. |

4/28/2023 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 97 pointsMedium ruby color, just a hint of bricking towards the rim. First slightly holding back, but opening up with a little bit of swirling in the glass. This is still young, but showing beautiful complexity already with notes of red currant, sweet red cherries, some flowery notes of dried rose petals and violets, mint, some herbal notes, there is also a nice mineral vein of graphite and a touch of tar, truffle, also some underwood while it‘s opening up. Constantly changing in the glass, buildling up layer over layer of aromatic complexity. It‘s medium-full bodied, with great persistence, it‘s showing depth without weight, has medium-high tannin that is super silky and pretty high acidity adding to the overall impression of freshness. Long towering finish. 5 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

1/30/2019 - br_winelover Likes this wine: 97 pointsAt its peak. Decanted for 4+ hours, then placed back in the bottle and drank one hour later. Complex, long, intense, floral, still fruity but with tertiary notes of tar and leather, concentrated but really easy to drink, velvety tannins, everything you want in a Barolo is here. One of the top three I've ever tasted. Drink or hold. |

Glorious bouquet of pomegranates, cherries, blackberries, leather, mocha, dark baking spices, stony soil. Similar on the palate, full body, seamless, beautiful balance, polished tannins, lingering finish. At prime now with a decant, with decades of potential. My #2. |

4/13/2013 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 97 pointsHad it for dinner at Ca del Lupo in Montelupo Albese in Piedmont. This Barolo absolutely blew me away. After I have tasted many vintages of this wine over the last years, I expected it to be way too young, but I couldn't resist. Still very young, but beautiful nose of red berries (strawberry), cherries, some tar, smoke, spices and licorice. With some air, also some minty/eucalyptus flavors develop. Very fleshy on the palate, with incredible purity and complexity. Masses of top-notch tannin and a fresh acidity. All in stunning harmony and balance. Unbelievably dense, concentrated and long but with an incredible tension and elegance. Seriously one of the best young Baroli I have ever had... |

6/27/2013 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 97 pointsI was lucky enough to drink it again...My tasting note is really virtually identical to the last one of April 2013. Incredible nose of strawberries, cherries, tar and some smoke, as well as flowers. Hits the palate with a full body, high density, amazing length and high acidity that's barely recognizable under the tons of fruit and body. Undeniably a very masculine Barolo... But in a very complex and elegant way. It might close down at some point for several years of hibernation but right now it leaves me speechless.... again. |

11/16/2013 - NostraBacchus Likes this wine: 97 pointsWas lucky to get the last bottle at one of my favorite restaurants at an extremely attractive price. Since my last tasting note of June 2013 it has closed down quite a bit. It is still an absolutely mind-blowing Barolo, but I would give it at least 5-7 years in the cellar before enjoying it again. |

11/16/2016 - MNig Likes this wine: 97 pointsBlindverkostung mit Freunden. |
