Low acid transitions into a smooth finish. Tannins seem to be integrated at this point which makes me wonder if this wine is at it's peak. An amazing finish that leaves the currant/mocha flavors lingering for at least a minute. This is what a high end Napa Cab blend should be.....lives up to the name. |

Definitely has the Italian feel but with a more exotic dried chili, spice, and ripe cherry on the nose. Creamy, vibrant fruit and stone is bolstered by huge tannins and acid on the palate. This is one of those wines that screams for some time in the cellar, but you can sense what lies ahead which makes it a fun drink now...if that makes sense. Lengthy finish and stellar with food. Sicily is definitely my favorite wine discovery of 2011. |

4/23/2010 - pete s. wrote: 94 pointsJust an awesome wine. Very intense nose right out of the bottle - initially more rustic with some tar and meatiness but eventually intense raspberry jam, fresh flowers, and dark chocolate came through. Immediately on the entry, the sweet fruit and plush mouthfeel are evident. Great concentration on the mid palate that shows more red and black fruit along with the chocolate note. Big structure on the very lengthy finish. Definitely a big boy that will go the distance. |

2/26/2010 - pete s. wrote: 94 pointsBig and young. Nose was bursting with deep blackberries and currants, leather and oak. Very concentrated on the palate with blackberry and chocolate flavors that carry through the finish. Oak treatment is very present but balanced nicely by the fruit. As expected, the tannins and acid are huge, but the delicious factor matches up with the big structure. Amazing finish that goes on for days. I really look forward to trying this one down the road. |

6/19/2011 - pete s. wrote: 94 pointsTasted at the winery. It was great to compare the '07 to this wine. 2007 is the heralded vintage, but I actually preferred the 2008. Very different profile on both the nose and palate with black currant, cedar, and pipe smoke. Creamy mouthfeel, dark fruit finish mixed with some spice. The texture is what pushed this ahead of the previous vinage - very dense but with sheen. Streamlines into grippy, chewy tannins on the finish. Down the road I hope to do the same side by side, and I still see this wine pulling ahead. |

4/21/2011 - pete s. wrote: 94 pointsThis Pinot was in the groove tonight. Nose and flavor very similar to my previous notes, but time in the bottle has given this wine impeccable balance. Lovely array of red fruit and spice with touches of toasty oak. Silkly smooth but with great intensity. Very lenghty finish. Pricey but absolutely worth it. |

8/12/2010 - pete s. wrote: 94 pointsImmediately after opening, aromas of bright berries, fresh flowers, tobacco, tapenade, and oak leaped out of the glass. Beautiful nose. Silky mouthfeel and nice weight on the entry with pure red raspberries, strawberries, and spice on the palate. Seamless transition from mid to the finsih with long lasting oak and coffee bean notes. Tannins are in check and acid is balanced. A very well made wine and an absolute pleasure to drink. |

3/1/2012 - pete s. Likes this wine: 93 pointsThis wine is really showing well at this point in time. Makes me wonder why I don't drink more Oregon Pinot. Striking nose of sour cherry, earth, and blood orange. On the palate, the fruit is mostly of the sour and red variety, but there's a ripeness and freshness along with underlying complexity that make it a very enjoyable drink. Definitely has the structure to age, but was great on it's own and paired with roasted chicken. On day two, more fruit forward with a prominent spice note. Good stuff. |

5/9/2012 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsRan through the vinturi and decanted for an hour. Ripe, plush nose of blackberry, black cherry and spice. Also getting a hint of wood but nothing overdone. Juicy blackberry and plum palate with a hint of bitter chocolate on the finish. Firm tannic structure and medium high acid but its youth did not take away from the drinking experience. I'm going to have to agree with those who said it's one of the best malbecs I've tasted. Really drinks like double its price. 93+ |

2/5/2010 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsTons of sweet black fruit, smoke and leather on the nose. As expected, more blackberries, raspberries, and dark plum on the palate mixed with prominent but not excessive oak. Med-full bodied with med. acid and tannins. I almost want a bit more structure on the back end but the finish is the star here with lovely fruit and tobacco that lasts for days. Drinking very well at its young age but not sure about long term ageing. A crowd pleaser and absolutely delicious. |

1/7/2012 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsSad to see my last bottle go, but this was the best of the three and shared with close friends so no regrets. One of my favorite noses on any wine I've tried - tons of black fruit, smoke, dark chocolate, espresso, and oak. On the palate, the best word to describe this wine is simply: delicious. More blackberries, vanilla, and just the right amount of oak but the richness is still being checked by frim tannins. An amazingly long finsh leaves a pleasant bitter chocolate note. Ultimate crowd pleaser but should make even the toughest critic happy. |

11/12/2011 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsPopped and poured pretty late on a Friday night. This a young beast of a Zin with tons of black and blue brambly fruit and added complexity from floral and mineral notes. Big structure and holds its alcohol well. After a glass I decided to cork it and resumed the drinking experience the following night. Really in the groove on the 2nd day - great concentrated but pure fruit and firm tannins/med-high acid were still very present. Excellent dark fruit finish. |

2/1/2012 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsPop and pour. nose: sour but ripe dark fruit, spice (coriander, pepper), palate: med-bodied, big and rich dark fruit, licorice, but still has freshness from the acid - softer tannins. The sensation of mouthfilling fruit is present but with finesse. Still young though - a little heat - but still very drinkable. More complex spice (subtle green peppercorn) and mineral components come through to supplement the ripe fruit with a little air and hint to what this can be with some age. Lingering sweetness and anise on the finish. I popped this thinking it would need a day, but very happy at how it's showing after the pop and pour. |

2/16/2013 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsPop and pour. This is a fantastic wine and one of the best domestic, $20 (on sale) cabs I've consumed in a while. Powerful nose of blueberry and black currant. Also getting a distinct roasted red pepper note. On the palate, this is very concentrated and young, but approachable with its tasty black fruit and balsamic flavors. Powerful tannins coat the palate, but eventually give way to a med+ finish. This should age beautifully. Tertulia has sparked my interest. |

10/26/2011 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsPopped and poured and drank at cellar temperature. The nose was somewhat reticient at first but stuck my nose deep in the glass and picked up perfumed, floral, berry fruit. On the palate, pure red berries and perfectly ripe blackberries are given complexity by secondary flavors of chocolate, spice, and hints of oak. The fruit is bright and fresh and nowhere near jammy and rolls across the tongue daring me to swallow. These flavors continue seamlessly down the mid palate into a balanced finish that shows substantial, but harmonious, tannic structure and acid. I don't know that I've experienced a Sonoma zin quite like this. Looking back at Morgan's notes, it looks like he combined a couple of vineyard designates into this cuvee and the quality shows. Even more, the winemaker's touch and finesse is evident. Really wishing I had purchased the maximum of this $22 beauty. |

1/4/2010 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsThis wine is the whole package. Intense nose full of deep cranberry and cherry aromas and a hint of asian spice. Young and big but with great concentration and focus on the palate. Medium bodied with sweet fruit and spice flavors. Grippy tannins present on the lengthy finish. My only very minor complaint would be lack of oak or earth tones to balance the fruit but hopefully this will come with bottle age. Delicious. |

9/11/2009 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsHuge of nose of dark fruit, caramel creaminess, and toasty oak that jumps out of the glass. On the palate, a mouthfull of wine with rich fruit flavors, intense gripping tannins, and lasting creamy oak finish. This wine is a big wine that could go at least another decade, but it will be very hard to resist my other two bottles. |

11/5/2010 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsVery similar to the '04 but seems to be showing better at this young stage. Ran through the aerator and decanted for 3 hours. I did pour a glass initially after opening - Very intense aromatics of dark berries, black cherry, smoke, and potpouri spice on the nose. Sexy but powerful on the palate with an amazing mid full of dark, brooding fruit and a creamy caramel note. Tannins did mellow out with time but the structure is there for ageing over the next decade. Finish is lengthy with an interesting herbal dill, almost pickle like note. One wouldn't think this would be very pleasant with the fruit, but I actually enjoyed it. Great quality for the price. |

10/20/2010 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsThe majority of the reviews are spot on. After a pop and pour, a half hour of air in the glass released powerful aromas of dark cherries, blackberries, a little earth, and lovely floral notes. Deeply concentrated fruit favors glide across the palate and leave hints of dirt and mushrooms. Also tons of cinammon spice on both the nose and palate. Love this style - I get the Italian terrior with lush, upfront fruit. Juicy acidity leads into a lengthy finish. Love it. |

4/25/2012 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsWhat a fantastic wine...sad to see it go. Nose had lovely cherry fruit, underbrush, and a piney forest thing going on. On the palate, a great combination of earthy notes and sour (but sweet at the same time) cherry and rhubarb. Vibrant mouthfeel, med. acid and tannins that are very well balanced, and a long finish. This is one of those wines that is a great combination of power and finesse. In my opinion, it's in the sweet spot. |

2/15/2009 - pete s. wrote: 93 pointsTwo hour decant. Aromas of black currant, creamy vanilla, black cherry. Very tasty in the mouth with beautiful fruit (more black cherry) and white chocolate. Smooth transitions through the amazing, lengthy finish. Nice oak at the back end. Little to no tannins. Really loved this wine and think it's worth the hype. Don't think it's the 95 that WS scored it due to it's lack of long term aging potential. Also, it's not distinctly WA cab to me. I agree with the poster that wrote this was similar to CA merlot. May be the case but it does not take away from it being an all around excellent wine.....and it may be one of the better cabs I've had at this price point. |

Deep dark blackberry and cassis on the nose with some rocks and charcoal in the background. Ripe and luscious on the palate with a lovely inner perfume from the oaky spice. Sweet tannins round out the lengthy finish. Feeling a little remorse over consuming this with it being my only '07 but at least the '08 is waiting for me in the cellar. |

Layers of lush fruit and pipe tobacco lead into a very interesting bitter graphitl note before being enveloped by firm, young tannins. Balance is present, even at this young stage, and this will age fantastically. Love this intriguing blend - dominated by characteristics of both Cab Franc and PV. 93+ |
