NV Jacques Selosse Champagne Grand Cru Lieux-dits Extra Brut Ambonnay Le Bout du ClosPinot Noir more |
11/27/2013 - Matsutake Likes this wine: 96 pointsPinot dominance clearly stood out. Full, rich, long, powerful as other have noted. Also as others have noted the nose does not do justice to the palate. Possibly we should have let it open up a bit instead of just pop-n-inhale? Quite unique and most certainly worth the neurons. |

9/21/2012 - Matsutake wrote: 95 pointsNo hint of oxidation. Incredibly still has fruit but secondary characteristics (paraffin, waxy, iodine-y) are most pronounced. Very unique and a real treat. Ready to go now, doubt it will get better. |

11/28/2013 - Matsutake wrote: 94 pointsOpened too cold. Improved after 30 minutes of air and heat. Deep golden color as expected at this maturity. Nose was a bit restrained (served in Zalto white glasses not flutes). Palate was a bit oxidative when cold, but with some heat it turned plump and long, complicated by some remaining acid. Tiny, tiny bubbles alive and well and piquant. And a little bitterness hidden in the finish of the last glass. |

10/21/2014 - Matsutake Likes this wine: 94 pointsBottle purchased as part of an aged lot of Rayas, Pignan and Fonsalette. Provenance was direct from Fonsalette (Rayas); could not possibly be better. 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

12/1/2010 - Matsutake wrote: 94 pointsFantastic bottle. Wish I had taken more notes, but I will say it has a good 5-10 years of age left in it. Opening it in December 2010 felt a bit like infanticide. |

9/7/2011 - Matsutake wrote: 94 pointsIt is clear why this wine is reference for Condrieu.... even in this less than ideal vintage, this is a joy to drink. The '08 seems ready to drink now, although it will go a couple years, I am sure, as it survived (and evolved) beautifully waiting on me, opened 2 days in the fridge. The acidity is more prominent in this vintage than in others, but it is welcome, not overly aggressive, and food friendly. The citrus peel is there, becoming candied as the wine warms up joined by some unripe (but fragrant) stone fruit. Obviously, it is a mistake to drink this too cold. |

9/3/2014 - Matsutake Likes this wine: 94 pointsCondrieu in off years is on. This 2008 is still fresh and crisp, all the while holding onto classic Condrieu notes. Great for eats. One of my favorite wines of the year; and easily my favorite 2008 from the Rhone. Am revising the drink by date forward as this shows no sign of giving up the ghost. |

6/23/2011 - Matsutake wrote: 91 pointsLittle funky on opening, but blew off in 15 minutes. Dark berries, mineral+acid : balanced; medium bodied and elegant ... not a fruit bomb. Fantastic evolution from when it was young and not nearly as interesting. Still has some fruit, but this is at peak maturity now. Kept a leftover glass in the bottle for the next day and it was not nearly as good. Glad I just drank my last bottle. I didn't expect too much from this bottle and was pleasantly surprised. |

1/9/2014 - Matsutake wrote: 91 pointsYes, it is a bit bretty on first open. However, after decanting and given enough air this wine shines: nice on the palate, typical southern rhone happily lacking over the top fruity/jammy-nesses. It really just needs a couple hours to blow off the brett. |

7/16/2011 - Matsutake wrote: 91 pointsThe notes below were taken after the remaining 1/2 bottle had been left open for 4 days (in the fridge). There was a clear evolution in this wine after 4 days : it wasn't interesting enough to take notes on when first opened. Nose: honeyed lime, yuzu, passionfruit as it warmed a bit. Palate: Syrupy and mouth coating but with an underlying acidity. Honeyed pear, tropical fruits, there was that passion fruit again. As the wine warmed a bit the acidity became more marqued as did the tropical fruits. Reminds me of yellow and white sour patch kids. Finish: fresh pineapple, nice long finish. This is a nicely balanced, elegant Condrieu that could probably use another year of patience. |

10/23/2015 - Matsutake Likes this wine: 90 pointsPerfectly ready to drink. After a flawed bottle this one was terrific considering the vintage. Typical pialade, very light red, very aromatic but this time with a persistent whiff of brett that did not put us off. |

Not appreciating it's loud youth, I sadly didn't pick up any more. If I had these would be on my list to serve to company. |

Medium bodied, with some tannins left. Nice acidity. Good length. Maybe could age longer, but I'm glad I didn't risk it. Worked really well with smoked meats. |
