3/29/2014 - sandwich Likes this wine: 94 pointsSoft and supple. This is in a great place and probably can go another ten years - but why wait. A great wine from a great year. Primarily blueberry and raisin with a hint of oil cured Greek olives and the slightest note of smoked beef brisket. Of course there is the gravelly backdrop and long finish. |

12/4/2022 - A L P Likes this wine: NRThis time, very different. Nicely round after 1 hour decant. Violets in the nose. Austere on the pallet with some floral notes. Complex. Not gone yet. Also very nice at 12.5 ABV. |

12/4/2006 - Spencer wrote: 97 pointsWow - was this a pleasant surprise. This blew away the '82 and '85, my favorite vintages of Barton. Incredibly deep, seamless, balanced. This had the great texture and mouthfeel that I find in most top '90s, and a finish that seemed to go on forever. This is already a complex and complete wine, bit it may even have some room for further improvement, and should age beautifully. Perhaps (one can only hope) the '03 will be similar to this in 15 years. |

6/16/2016 - Rani Likes this wine: 95 pointsTasted blind side by side with a 1982 Pontet Canet. The two were very different but both very good. This was filled with cedar and dried herbs. Superbly balanced, very feminine and floral. Hard to believe it's 34 years old. |

11/5/2012 - scctsui wrote: 92 pointsThis wine will not be opened up unless you give it a two hour decant. It was not surprising at first but as the time goes, it will turn into something quite different with much fruitiness and vanilla, with a hint of flower on the nose. However, the only disappointment is that the smell and taste slipped away quickly after reaching its optimal point which is at after two hours of decanting. The quality at its optimal is excellent, still abit young and could wait for a few years more. |

8/6/2023 - bacchus of knockholt Likes this wine: 92 pointsBought this in a mixed case of of red wines at a general auction for a great price. Ruby with pronounced bricking. The nose is sooooo inviting with aromas blackberry and little blackcurrant and a bouquet of flowers. The palate has lots of flavour, medium bodied with black fruits, cedar, pencil lead and with warmth too, despite its modest 12.5%. Still showing well after nearly 30 years. |

12/6/2013 - stadler Likes this wine: NRServi en bouteille. Robe tirant vers l'acajou, limpide. |

8/22/2015 - Rani Likes this wine: 95 pointsTasted blind. This was a stellar bottle. At first, quite cheesy/old sneaker smell that blew off after 20 minutes to reveal a beautiful, leathery St. Julien, with notes of dates, cassis and a hint of thyme. Long and wonderfully balanced. |

1/30/2015 - Squilber Likes this wine: 91 pointsAfter letting this age for several years, I finally opened it up on a Friday night, to go along with NY Strip steaks. A very nice, smooth, medium bodied Bordeaux. Red fruits, pepper, oak and meaty flavors. Deep purple in color. This is ready to drink now and has clearly softened with age, but will last a good 5 more years or more - not sure if that will make it any better but you can try. |

1/4/2008 - baja wrote: 90 pointsAs suspected the first bottle I had of this must not have been a good example. This time round it is showing much nicer. Decanted for 1 hr. The color is ruby with a little slight bricking around the edge. Nice clean nose of red fruit, leather, mineral and cedar. The palate shows nice cassis, cherry, cedar and some nice spice. The tannins are just about fully integrated at this point. The long finish shows nice mineral notes but is a slight bit drying. I get no bitter notes like I found in the last bottle. This is an lighter style easy drinking LB. |

8/25/2010 - SteelerFan wrote: 95 pointsGreat. Deep dark inky color. Decanted for about an hour. Smooth tannins and deep, viscous cherry and berry flavors with earth, tar and cassis. Long finish. Just a terrific mature Bordeaux at its peak with many years ahead of it. No sigh of age. Drank with '89 Beaucastel, and although very different styles, this was my preference. Just a delicious bottle of wine. |

7/23/2016 - RaphaelMalago Likes this wine: 92 points1982 Leoville Barton - deffinetly out of the case the best bottle. Tertiary with cedar, leather, lots of tabaco and some reminescent dried fruits. Very fresh palate, losing a little bit on the palate, quite thin, medium. Time to drink it up. |

11/13/2015 - ThalesGaspar Likes this wine: 92 pointsDecanted 1h. Garnet colour, not showing it's age. The bouquet is intense and kept developing during the next hour, really nice. Delicious on the palate, full body, good balance between fruit and oak. Excellent finish, medium/long. Ready to drink but should hold another 5 years. |

11/5/2016 - Bacchus&Ceres wrote: 80 pointsAcceptable upon opening; nothing like what was described in March of 2015. Deep garnet color spicy bouquet, fruity mouth deep earth medium body tannins integrated but towards the end of dinner (beef roast with roasted vegetables) the wine took an unexpected turn into that same flabby port like dry unpleasant taste. The decent wine disappeared into the ether. Too bad it started out perfectly quaffable but at the end I left a full glass untouched, certainly unlike me. |

Reserved nose needs time to open up, texture was surprisingly smooth supple for the vintage, quite fresh still, though lacking in some of the secondary components at this time. Lovely little bottle. |
