Toasted oak, sweet ripe red fruit, dominated by a core of Merlot. It's a balanced and delicious St. Emilion under a budget. 92 points. Jan 2024

In the bouquet fresh vegetables and fruits. In the taste iron, earthy and liquorice. The tannin is still quite powerful. Good complexity.

Very mature. In fact I kept this bottle too long. Light colour. Lacks concentration and finesse. Still drinkable, but clearly on its way down. No score.

I got a bunch at costco closeout for $20/btl. Opened to see how this is.
Deep dark purple, clear through out. Nose of blackberry, earth, and hints of coffee. Heat is present, but tannins are manageable. Flavors of leather, earth, smoke, and medium finish. Enjoyable right bank that could use more time obviously.

Has a bit of coffee and pleasing sweet fruit showing on the nose. Strong, spicy, yet smooth across the palate. More of a dark fruits kind of profile than I might have expected from a St. Emilion, but the smoothness gives it away as merlot-based. Really good stuff - a bit simple right now, not a lot of earth or complexity, but really enjoyable St. Emilion. Decent acidity, starting to develop a "wine-y" sense rather than just primary fruit.

Opened an hour before serving. Dark maroon. A blast of new French oak dominates the nose. Spoofy red fruits on the mid palate. Bitter tannins lead to an astringent finish. A local wine shop here in Seattle was agressively behind this a couple of years ago and it was seemingly well priced. This needs time for the tannins to resolve, and I fear it will be a stewed mess by then. Someone suggested that M Rolland made this wine. I have no idea if that is true, but it is a Parkerized wine that I would not recommend.

Deep garnet, cassis on the nose with some earth and pencil lead. Medium bodied, nice cassis fruit, medium tannins, and a long finish. Simple Bordeaux but good and totally delivers for the price. Held up very well through the evening. Day 2: still good. This is good today and will live for a decade easily.

14% alcohol; 91% merlot: From a St Emilion producer very much on the upgrade under new ownership since 2004. This wine is drinking well now. A lovely dark wine, inky, nearly as dark as night, with no real fade around the edge. Cassis and blackcurrant on the nose, but sifter fruit notes too. As well as the fruit, upon tastings there are earthy flavours coming through too, its a delicious blend of fruit, tannins and acidity. Lots of evidence of the new French Oak (100%). Beautiful winery on the lower slopes down from the town of St Emilon - boasts a 2000 year old Roman Well on the property!

4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Rick's & Cris'): Perfumed black fruit aromas; cassis and lavender. Chalky tannins with flavors of balck fruit on the palate. I was surpised to see this was a Bordeaux.

DRC Tasting Group: Le Pin (Cafe Veloce): Nice nose of red and black fruits. Big structure and tannins, with a nice deepness and softness on the palate. The alcohol is definitely present on the body. Med+ finish with med acids. Hedonistic, new world style, but very enjoyable.

Forest floor, spice box, truffle, smoke, licorice and dark red fruits are a nice treat for the nose. Close to fully mature, the secondary, earthy aromatic profiles move to ripe, sweet, fruits in the finish, but there is touch of dryness in the end note that stops the wine from getting a higher score.

Tobacco, red fruits , spice. Fruit not as upfront as it should. Slowly coming out of its shell but been open for 2 hours and should be showing more. Great acidity.
Let’s cork it back up and see what it taste like tomorrow

Next night - Rough edges smoothed out but still not particularly complex. Still somewhat youthful but the fruit is drying up.

Trois Petites St. Emilions; 6/25/2008-6/26/2008: Translucent brick purple to the rim with medium thin legs in the glass. Right off the bat this wine is obviously the most unique with aromas of dark berries, plum, cherry, currant leaf, earth, and wet stone; just oozing terroir all over the place. The distinctive notes explode on the palate as well with cool dark fruit, licorice, and gobs of leafy minerality. The tannins are sweet and approachable with a subtle chalky texture. Great concentration, seductive balance, noble distinction, and masses of upside potential. Decanted for 2 hours, recorked a small amount overnight and revisited. Tasted single blind, I guessed this was the Fonplégade. 93+

Bordeaux Today (2005s) (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): Dark red purple in the glass with an explosive high-toned nose of licorice, cassis, earth, and stone/slate. Superb concentration and balance on the palate with dark fruit and the same terroir characteristics through the long finish. This is the second time I have tasted this wine (previously single blind) and I have found it exceptionally unique and complex both times. The sleeper of the vintage for me so far. Excellent.

Chock full of red fruit on the nose, likewise on the palate. I thought the tannins were still too ovepowering. This, is like so many other 2005's way too young and probably closing down a bit. It is amazing the balance, backbone and structure these '05s have however, and this one needs a serious nap.

This was the wine of the night for me, dark garnet with hints of purple, nose of coffee, earth and currants with dark fruit and spice on the palate. Long finish of fine tannins. Excellent wine, good QRP for a 05. Yummy!
