2010 Domaine Huet Vouvray Sec Clos du BourgChenin Blanc more |
12/13/2013 - Keith Levenberg Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis was terrific, maybe the best young Huet I've ever had. Often they're kind of mute at this age and don't show much more than apples and acid, but this one is really generous - luscious, even, without showing any sweetness. The fruit material is pure but features some more sunny yellow fruits than usual; it's full and creamy, just wraps around the palate, and it's spackled with quartzy detail. You keep reaching for another sip and it shows another facet each time.

4/12/2024 - ohne_musik wrote: 94 pointsCan’t believe it’s been 6 years since my last bottle. A firecracker Le Mont, with thrilling acidity, lemon and lanolin, lime flower, a bit more evolution with honeycomb, some white mushroom, hay, and some complex umami laden tide pool. Dense, chewy texture full of dry extract, but mid weight in body. It will likely continue to gain complexity. Mighty fine.

9/28/2014 - alpha_ori Likes this wine: 93 pointsThese Bedrock Heritage wines are such beautiful conundrums. Right now, this one is just sheets of fruit, each layer different than the last. It's 5 different Zinfandels in one. I cant imagine what it will be like as it ages, but it's quite fascinating now.

11/22/2012 - pete s. wrote: 91 pointsPopped and poured at Thanksgiving...definitely was a hit. Nose was somewhat reserved showing wild red berries and floral notes. Much different story on the palate - vibrant and full of verve (lots of v's) with more of the red berry meets pomegranate with hints of stone. Great finish with mouth-watering acid that gives amazing lift and length. Not overly complex, but delicious. Should have bought more.

12/31/2022 - stokeme Likes this wine: 92 pointsRed plum, fresh cranberries, combined with lively acidity, add a piquant note to this engaging Lodi Zin. It is so refreshing to experience a different side to such a multifaceted varietal. Old vines with their own roots, coupled with a judicious approach, yield a noteworthy wine. This rendition paints a unique comparison to North Coast Zin. Euro style (for Lodi) with a long, lithe finish that developed further on Day 2. Ultralight tannins support every sip.

4/11/2011 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 92 pointsBlueberries and black raspberries on the nose. Light to medium bodied, with juicy raspberries and blackberries on the palate, buoyed by medium+ acidity. Incredibly vibrant and fresh for a CA syrah, I couldn't stop sipping and swishing. Wish I had bought a case.

Among my top 5 Bedrock wines and we’ve been drinking since the ‘09 vintage. Love the floral, berry perfume, and the bright red fruit profile. Love this site and what Bedrock does with it.

2016 Bedrock Wine Co. Syrah Sky VineyardMt. Veeder more |
5/26/2019 - zscheiner Likes this wine: NRDecanted for an hour before service. This is a big boy but balanced without rough edges—only a smidge of tannins on the finish. There are layers of ripe, dark fruit complemented beautifully by the olivey, meaty things that I really want in my Syrah. I’m sure this will last a very long time and shed some baby fat, maybe even allowing the savory side to take center stage, but there’s no reason not to pop one now if you have a few.

3/14/2014 - bajayngo wrote: 93 pointsSo much going on in this even in its youth. A laser beam of pineapple and pear fruit just so pure, all wrapped with mineral, sea shell, some nice honey notes, a bit of mulch. What really wow'd me is the way the wine hit all area's of the palate, acids, a touch of sweet then savory. It was a killer pairing with coconut curry chicken over jasmine rice.

6/20/2013 - zscheiner Likes this wine: 92 pointsBlind Tasting Kutch Pinot Noirs (Tom's House, Palo Alto, CA): Pretty red cherry nose with a dash of baking spice. Tart raspberry palate, great acid, some structure. Focused and pure. Love this now but it will be even better in a few years. (my 1st, group's 2nd)

Spectacular wine. It's gentle, lightly oak, touches of sandalwood and mushroom. Tasty dark red fruit and tobacco leaf flavors. Medium finish and very graceful. My WOTN and the groups WOTN. Glad I was able to share with people that appreciate a good bottle of PN as it was my last and I had been saving this for them.

2009 Rhys Pinot Noir Bearwallow VineyardAnderson Valley more |
2/5/2014 - kenhoeve Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis is one of those you knew was firing from the first whiff. Cool, fruity, but something exotic that is a combination of earth and spice that is unique and subdued. That character carried over to the palate very well, but it became immeasurably better. Balance and earthy elegance dance on the palate while bright red fruit is very expressive, the stream of red fruited flavors and acidity literally make you salivate, and lead into a very long finish. Notes of cranberry, sour cherry, red licorice, and spice, with a backbone of earth continue to echo. A complete and incredibly satisfying Pinot that is outstanding with both food and alone. Lean and powerful, this screams integrity. A real treat that is likely on the upswing, one of the best Rhys I've had and not even estate. Superb.

4/14/2015 - pizzamaker wrote: 89 pointsUsually when I drink a wine I look for aromas of fruit, then yeasts, then oak influences. But right away when I drank this wine it forced me think about tannins. I can only imagine that 5-10 years ago the tannins in this wine were powerful and gripping with a mouth-drying persimmon like astringency. I can imagine the tannins creating a long, narrow bitter finish in a wine that likely was completely out of balance.
