Absolutely spellbinding!

This Barbaresco delivers a masterclass in aging gracefully. The cork was only 75% compromised, the wine was a revelation, bursting with life and exuberance.

On the palate, it offers a wow-wow of pure red fruit mingling with strong scents of an autumnal forest stroll—think damp earth and fallen leaves—and the delicate fragrance of faint roses, which, admittedly, might have stayed hidden without the suggestion from the label.

The structure remains robust, with beautiful acidity, restrained and receeding tannins concocting an elegant balance. Each sip is a delightful contradiction to maturity through it's freshness.

It didn’t pair well with a garlic tomato bacon pasta sauce, but it proved a sublime companion for an evening of relaxation and 2.5 hrs of Netflix.

This wine is one of the most memorable Barbarescos I’ve enjoyed this life—truly a sublime bottle.

Late night at home with Asparagus and J. Bottle in excellent condition! High fill, perfect cork extracted using Durand. Drank in Conterno Sensory.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garent rim. Legs.
Nose medium intensity, with aromas of tar, sour red cherries, dark red cherries, tinge of floral rose, nice polish. Developing.
On the palate, dry, surprisingly still good high acidity, medium+ alcohol (13.5%), full integrated high tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sour red cherries, ripe darker red cherries, soft red plum, sweet spice, bit of red licorice, touch of balsamic. Long finish.
Very very good quality. So fresh! Juicy acidity. A joy to drink. Noted that the wine in bottle went down pretty quickly, no spitting here.
Day 2/3: sweet fresh tea leaves.

Similar service and profile in my prior notes. Some sediment this time. I think this bottle had just gone over its peak. Still delicious with prime rib but I won't dilly-dally with my last 2 bottles. You shouldn't either.

great nose; perfect mix of lightness and flavor on day one; deeper and darker with iron notes on day two; a third somewhat riper wine (albeit still with iron and structure) on day three; all three versions were interesting

I refer you to my note of 11-15-2021. Drinking beautifully still and it has softened wonderfully. I liked the wine so much I bought a few more on a secondary site.

Superb. Probably the best barbaresco I ever tasted and I tasted a few. Awesome flowery scent. Perfect balance of tannins and body in the mouth. Incredible persistentcy. An unforgettable experience in a glass.

This is in a nice place right now. At first it seemed a bit more mature than one would expect, which is something I've found in '03 in both Barolo and Burgundy, however, it did not show overripeness or otherwise reflect the heat of the vintage. Surprisingly, on the second day this had freshened significantly. Very nice, though a bit difficult to know whether it's time to drink up or continue aging.

Piemonte: Back to the truffling!; 11/24/2022-12/3/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Fun to get to try. Ideally would have opened a few hours before and given it a chance to maybe evolve. In the beginning it was all more old leather and library but with some time in the glass I thought it started to move more towards dried fruits and potpourri. Not sure where it would have gotten with more time and of course always the risk that the answer is vinegar. Very classic old Nebbiolo and for my taste a bit older than I like. I think the sweet spot might be more in the 20-25 year mark for a lot of wine.

Luis is MIA Again (Broder's Pasta Bar, Minneapolis): Dark red color, 1mm clear rim. 6 hour decant, drank a glass over 90 minutes plus. Complex, evolving nose with blackberry, lacquer, black raspberry, ripe dark fruits, savory, truffle, ash and spices. The palate is medium plus bodied, savory, blackberry, black plum, tar, wood and spice notes, round loosening tannins. This was long and vibrant, yet retained finesse. Should drink well going forward.

Tasted blind next to the 2001 Produttori Moccagatta. Interesting nose of rhubarb, violets. Mix of dark and red fruit, velvety tannins. Felt more polished than the produttori, whic I liked a little more but still very good.

Let half of this sit for a day in the cellar and then brought back up to pair with a mushroom galette; the air was good as this was definitely better; the nose was a bit fresher with the fruit more prominent. The palate was also better with a bit more flesh and seemed in better balance. Amazing how sometimes a day or two of air can really improve older Italian wines.

The color on this was quite beautiful & clear. The nose had tar, rose petals, possibly some herbs & noticeable truffles. The palate was quite soft with some red fruits still present, tar, rose petals, high, almost juicy acidity with velvety tannins that became a little more prominent with air in a softer body. This wine was quite beautiful & a perfect match for the creamy Risotto.

A lovely Barbaresco that is barely just entering its drinking window. The bouquet was soft and delicate, quite mystical in some ways and had notes of violet, rose and roasted coffee beans (more so than licorice). Possessed a beautiful and very refined acid structure, carrying flavours such as tar, cherry and tea superbly. Long finish.

Drink now or 7+ years.
