The color is very opaque, almost looks like very dark chocolate. The nose is complex with dried fruits like figs, plums and prunes dominant. The wine is viscous and velvety on the tongue. Yes, sweet, but not excessively sweet. This wine is dessert in itself and in my opinion should not be paired with your usual desserts, excepting for some appropriate cheeses or maybe judiciously poured over vanilla ice cream. |

Enjoyed from 750, this wine is really nice on the nose and palate. Palate gives you everything that the nose does: a dense aged fig, moderate dose of black plum and a hint of raisin and prune right up front. As it sits on the palate and toward the finish, dried apricot and even a hint of pineapple and tangerine. Mouthfeel is exquisite throughout. The finish is very long and round, opulent by itself, but thins out like a brandy showing a lot of the longer notes if enjoyed with food (in this case, this one was enjoyed with a spiced bread pudding. Described by someone in the party as a "rich man's fig newton," I'm not sure if there is really anything else to add to this tasting note! This one can go for a while. This wine has done a great job of outliving most people born in 1934, and can probably outlive many that were born in 1984 as well! |

It is not by any means too sweet. It's an outstanding wine. |

12/12/2023 - MAkita Likes this wine: 99 pointsReally incredible experience. The color, the thick, almost oily consistency--this is a surprising wine from the very beginning. Overwhelming raisiny notes at the very beginning give way to every imaginable secondary flavor. Think baking spices, molasses, dark chocolate or raw cacao nib, hints of mint, soy sauce (really), tobacco, prune, plum cake, etc. It's almost impossible for me to describe everything going on here, because every sip is just that little bit different. All in all, a really incredible experience if you can get your hands on it. The only thing I can fault it for is the lack of razor-sharp acidity that something like a top-shelf Tokaji will have that makes it moreish. The acidity is there, but just shy of cutting through the syrupy quality, which makes it hard to drink more than an ounce at a time. Still, this is a wine to be savored, and an incredible experience if you can get your hands on it! |
