3/31/2024 - thesternowl wrote: 93 pointsGinestra is arguably one of the most important MGA’s in Monforte d’Alba. It was called out by Renato Ratti back in the early days of Barolo vineyard classification and its home to Gavarini, Chiniera, Rüncot, Pajana and Grassi. As you might imagine, Cascina Chicco’s Ginestra Riserva is more than a Riserva from Ginestra. In fact, the fruit comes from the heart of the single-vineyard known as Grassi which enjoys the best exposure (straight south). However, instead of calling out “Grassi” on the label (which they are entitled to do), Cascina Chicco simply refers to “Ginestra”. Perhaps it’s tradition since Ginestra is so well known. Whatever the case may be, what really matters is that it’s delicious. |

2/27/2024 - iglobetrotter Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is exactly what you expect from Barolo 2010 after 10 years. Fruitiness and tannins are still there, but much more secondary and tertiary aromas from oak and ageing. Vanilla, cloves, dried fruits, forest floor, mushroom. The colour is almost brown. Depending on the storage conditions it is ready for drink like this example or can be aged more. |

1/15/2024 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRPnP that was quite a nice surprise; haven't tasted since release, iirc. Medium-bodied, fresh, red-fruited, with elegant, cool lines that glide on the palate. The 14,5% abv. comes across as 14,0 or less. If this bottle is representative, this is in its preferred window. Some brown on the rim, with much more secondary than tertiary notes suggest it's a great time to look at one if you haven't in a while. The oak is fully integrated, and the very fine, ripe tannins are graceful. highly recommended, something the early versions of this producer's Cru managed pretty well. |

1/10/2024 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine: NRPnP; ready if not fully mature. This producer can be heavy-handed at times; a bit too modern for many tastes, including my own. However, these early versions of Barolo Cru seem to be in a much more classic mold. I recently opened a 2010, and now this 2012, and both showed a pale, clear garnet as opposed to anything deep red/dark. The nose (for both) was just lovely, with textbook aromas of fruit front and center, and any notion of too much oak are unfounded, at least for these two examples. I have three left that I'll drink in the coming ten years. This is an elegant, medium-bodied wine with very fine, ripe tannins, that's approaching a tertiary stage, but clearly not there yet. Having served this at cellar temp, the 14,5% abv was totally integrated. A nice surprise. recommended 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (7) |

11/3/2023 - colleenjoy Does not like this wine: 83 pointsI served this with pizza. My guests finished the other two bottles I served and avoided this one, I ended pouring it out at the end of the night. Too lean, tart. I can see why it ended up dumped on the market at Costco. I know better than to buy wines at Costco. Learn from my mistake! Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

10/5/2023 - Vinnut Likes this wine: 91 pointsMedium bright red garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & cranberries with overtones of floral notes of roses & earthy/dusty notes, minerals, some spice notes, a hint of anise & herbs & a hint of cedar. Medium bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe red fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & cranberries with herbs, minerals & spices. Lingering finish. Drinks well at present with decanting & extended airing but should develop further with additional aging at which time it may rate a higher score. |

4/25/2023 - t.d.alexander Likes this wine: NRPale garnet with developed, medium intensity aromas of grape jelly, black plum, black cherry, blueberry compote, clove, and cedar. It is dry, with high acid, medium minus and very rounded tannins, medium plus alcohol, and medium plus bodied with flavors of stewed plum, black cherry, cinnamon, bitter chocolate, cocoa nib, and menthol which linger for a long finish. |

1/23/2023 - ocassiuso wrote: NRBottle a praiseworthy 1194g. Moderately intense citrus aromas. Dry, with elevated palate-cleansing acidity, medium-bodied, 13.5°. There's some phenolic bitterness at first, then the fruit shows up on the finish in reverse order. Under-ripe pineapple. Very different from the half bottle I had last spring. |

10/29/2022 - stschutz Does not like this wine: 83 pointsIs there even any fruit in this? I don't remember having a Barolo this bad. I can only imagine how disappointed the owners of this vineyard must feel to create a wine so mediocre in such a great vintage. The alcohol right off the first sip is so strong (14.5%) and with such little fruit that it completely destroys any mid-palate or finish thereafter. We tried before, during, and after dinner, and with an hour and a half decant as of now, this wine seems to be getting stronger on the alcohol with every minute. The aroma has practically disappeared at this point, taking on a strange brandy/ whiskey smell to it. A good wine feels alive, like a living breathing thing, but this wine embodies the opposite of that, like there is nothing moving or living in it. Confused as to how this Barolo even competes with other Barolos. The only thing good about this experience is that we now only have one bottle left... Do you find this review helpful? |
