Dream Big - Discover California Wine Tasting (Stockholm, Gamla Riksarkivet (old government archives building) March 2019): AAAARRGHH. The one table I had my mind set on and by the time I got there, all the wine was finished, except for the 2016 Cab, which was so nice. Really lovely and a perfect example of when the Napa fruit shows it's really world class. Complex, for sure this is a big wine, but beautifully balanced and drinkable already now. I think this could go for twenty years and be even better. Highly Recommended.

Was expecting more based on the hype. Decanted for about 1 hour. Fruit was overwhelmed by the other flavors. Definately a big cab but not in a refined way. No idea why the 97 points from WE.

Aerated into decanter at cellar temp. Expressed huge nose in decant and held in glass thru most of eve. Haven't been able to find specifics on the blend, however, there's significant Petite Sirah talking to me here and I love it. This is a poster child for unctuous with deep black-n-blue fruit, cassis, very soft tannins. Not overly extracted, structurally balanced but not complicated (a little under for me) and was fine with 14.5% alc. Great depth from start through mid-palate and held through a rather long enjoyable finish. Hints of smoke & then tobacco developed later (60min+). As enjoyable as it was, a higher score from me would have required more complexity. Perfect for our Sat eve grilled ribeye, roasted rosemary fingerlings & french beans.

One of my favorite Cabernet Sauvignons, from an recent auction purchase, nose of black cherry, blackberry, and briar, same on the palate, big body, not quite the 2005 but lovely tasting, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon, mouth filling fruit, long finish.

    maitredgreg2 here
I acquired 2 bottles of the 2005 Peju Province Winery Cabernet Sauvignon H.B. Vineyard, but also read your notes on the 2006. I'm curious about the weight on the 2006, because I prefer them full and heavy.
    Waiting for Your Response.

Recent auction buy opened to pair with the Fleming's Prime Rib Dinner and Sauteed Mushrooms, nose of black cherry, black berry, black currants, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, delicious, elegant, mouth filling fruit, layers of complexity, the wine opened and tasted better as the evening went on, long, long, flavorful finish and aftertaste.

Nose of cooking spices, tea, oak, cherry and licorice. Silky smooth right out of the gate, building tannins as the finish goes on, it needs a few years to really calm down a bit but with a few hour decant this is really amazing stuff. At the price of 45 this is a steal. This is extremely well made and tastes in the 80-125 price range. Part of the reason is the vintage was incredible but it makes me curious enough to find some other vintages from this producer.

Absolute knock out and still very young at this stage; the 2001 was like a right bank first growth on steroids. It is multiple times better than any Sassicaia vintage I had so far. Lots of flowers and dark berries on the nose, didn't need much time to open up. On the palate, a good balance of fruit and fresh crisp tannins that are likely to integrate even better over the next 5 years. Drink after 2018. Unfortunately I only have one bottle left and it's difficult to source.

What's the story?! If someone had been smoking near this bottle when I opened it, I might not have lived to write a note about it. Basically, gasoline with some dark cherry undertones. Totally alcoholic, volatiles that made me think chemistry laboratory (benzene, toluene, etc.). I usually love B&H but not this bottle. An awful, mess of a bottle. Why are my notes so different from Parker and Tanzer? Am I missing something? Was this a bad bottle?

the nose is earthy, almost too much ... the flavor is a treat ... very complex and long ... really can't quite figure it all out ... this is after 2 hours open ... waiting another hour for the second glass. Wine Spectator had this wine an <85; i don't see that at all - much better

  • Comment posted by maitredgreg2:

10/26/2014 7:34:00 AM - Actually Wine Spectator had it at 83pts... But WA had it at 92pts, and I depend mostly on their ratings, than any others.
