Tasted blind. Unbelievably this is young! Tannins were kicking so we decanted for an hour. Earthy, notes of sour plums, miso, and red cherries. In the palate very fine but gripping dry tannins, ample acidity and great length. It would improve over the five years at least. I can even imagine what the VV cuvée would be like.

1/29/2024 1:12:00 PM - Thank you, that might explain its exuberance. In CT both versions exist, and it didn’t have the VV designation on the label so I (wrongly) assumed it wasn’t the VV.

This tasted completely over the hill. Metallic aftertaste, nearly DOA.

A bottle that is just starting to approach maturity. Opened and decanted, consumed over about two hours.

This bottle never really came into its own and the fruit was shy throughout. It started to broaden out and gain depth after about 90 min. At that point it was showing a dark fruit profile, supported by well integrated oak characteristics and a balanced finish. The acidity and oak were well balanced with the fruit, it just lacked some substance and depth.

Tasted blind next to its 2001 sibling. Notes of black olive tapenade. Rose petals emerged. On the palate huge acidity - really huge. Red fruit, super fine tannins. Surprinsgly accessible, but I don’t think it will improve from here.

Tasted blind next to the 1983 Lalande. Disappointing. Fully resolved, not much structure left, tastes like an older wine with a short finish.

  • Comment posted by Rani:

5/7/2023 11:52:00 AM - We did not. I drink a lot of mature Bordeaux and this wasn’t something that would’ve been improved with aeration. Not the best bottle. Ducru wasn’t that consistent in the 80s.

Wow was this good. Dark, graphite nose, inky. Amazingly fruity on the palate, notes of blackcurrant and milk chocolate, but impeccably balanced. Great now and will probably continue to peak for a decade.

One of these days I will need to try this beautiful champagne along with DP and Salon of same vintage as for my taste the Bollinger RD 2002 is one of the best champagnes out there and is in prime drinking window. Lovely light golden color, refined bubbles and a nose of brioche, minerals, orchard fruits, marzipan and honeycomb. On the palate beautiful velvety entry, great lift and balance, finishes buttery, fat and long. An absolute stunner.

7/17/2022 4:09:00 AM - Absolutely agree - this holds a candle to any of the grand cuvees out there, it's a fabulous complex wine that still avoids heaviness. I hunt for these despite the price increase in recent years...

Tasted blind. Obviously young. Purple, dark berries, soft tannins. Omnipresent Cabernet Sauvignon presence. Quite monolithic now, somewhat modern and will improve with a few more years, though it is approachable now.

I’m going to let these sit for a while. This is my second bottle in a week and while better than the last bottle, it’s really not that impressive. The case was bought upon release and cellared in ideal conditions. The color is solid and the nose is fine - similar to the last bottle with maybe a hit of surmaturite. The palate has more depth but is still tannic and green in the finish. Does not meet expectations or my experience with this producer. (88?)

9/1/2021 10:21:00 AM - I’ve had a few of these and I also feel they need more time. They’ve been “nice” but there’s a lot more ready to come out with some patience.

A beautiful and expressive Meursault. Pale golden color with notes of nuts, mango, white flowers and mineral on the nose. The palate is initially very precise evolving into a more complex wine of great sophistication. Pineapple (sweet citrus), white flowers, mineral and a hint of nuttiness dominate the palate. The acid and fruit are in perfect balance leading to a long and pleasurable finish. In a blind tasting I would have thought this was a Roulot 1er Cru as it tastes very similar (but for a lot less money). Drank over 3 hours and the wine kept getting better. A wonderful wine that can be drunk now or held for a few more years.

7/1/2021 12:30:00 PM - Funny you should mention Roulot here, because yesterday we had this next to a 2011 Roulot Porusot. The Roulot was smoother and more elegant, while this one was more powerful. Both were excellent.

Tasted blind. Floral, hint of roses and cut grass. Very elegant, high acidity, velvet texture and very fine red fruit and tannins. Balanced, on the elegant side rather than the powerful side.

Tasted blind. Red fruit, notes if earth, figs, lots of acidity. Very nice but this bottle feels older than it should be.

Tasted blind alongside a 1995 Bosconia Gran Reserva. Notes of mud, hung meat and licorice. Masculine compared with the Bosconia. Still young, needs another 10+ years.

  • Comment posted by Rani:

1/4/2014 12:08:00 PM - Tondonia really, that's the real mom. Bosconia is the aunt. I like them all though - I had them blind quite a few times with consistent notes so I know it's true love.

The best BdB I've had, period. Complex, fruity and creamy that somehow remains beautifully in balance.

  • Comment posted by Rani:

5/4/2013 11:54:00 AM - I agree with the sentiment, but it's not a BdB. It has 20% Pinot Noir.
