Reminds me of sake, very full and ripe. Keeps me with a taste of dried apricot in my mouth for a long time.

I feared the worse for this but it was perfumed heaven. Slightly tart and green but with plenty of crunchy berry fruit. The tannins are so fine now all in perfect balance with that touch of rusricity I love in these wines. 13% too. What's not to like?!

Walk around tasting, so just short notes.: In the beautiful bouquet metal and minerals, dark berries and garrigue. Same on the palate, beautifully fresh and juicy acidity and round tannin. full bodied and beautiful wine.

Medium-bodied, soft, forward, and polished, once past the initial oak influence, the wine offers sweet, dark fruits with a touch of pepper and espresso in the round finish. You can enjoy this on release. Drink from 2023-2032.

Black cherries, figs, espresso, and underbrush on the nose get you going. The wine is rich, lush, and full-bodied, with a lush character to the fruit on the palate and in the peppery finish. Drink from 2024-2034.

Really delicious Syrah coming out of Northern Rhone. Juicy and complex.

Wild aromatics. Nose shows boysenberry, ripe black plum, black liquorice, clove, pepper and earthy notes.

On the palate this wine is medium-bodied, juicy and lively with soft, smooth tannins, crisp acidity and a touch of heat in the throat.

Flavours of tobacco, liquorice, black plum, black pepper, wet earth and some interesting funk. Some different meat notes as well.

Can age but really enjoyable right now.

Luminous, youthful and quite intense lime-green color. Open, floral and quite seductive nose with intense aromas of apple blossom, peach, some flower-scented hand soap, light oaky notes of butter, light herbal notes of thyme and a cool, green-toned nuance of pine needles. The wine is rich, open and somewhat oily on the palate with a medium-to-moderately full body and ripe flavors of pear, white flowers, juicy peach, some sweet exotic spice, light notes of melted butter suggesting oak aging and a hint of stony minerality. The medium-plus acidity manages to keep the oily body in check and lends a little bit of freshness to the wine. The finish is broad, rich and oily with long flavors of ripe apricots, some pear, a little bit of melted butter, light floral tones and a hint of cool herbal greenness.

A very sophisticated, attractive and not particularly heavy Viognier that shows the gras typical of the region, yet at the same time comes surprisingly balanced and refreshing for the style. Almost everybody was in Rhône after the wine was poured and the aromatics pulled us immediately towards Condrieu. Thus, you could say, the wine is very archetypal of the regional style. All in all, a very well-made Condrieu that is really attractive right now, this young, but shows enough sense of balance and harmony, making this wine continue to improve for years more. Lovely. Recommended.

2017 Domaine du Chêne Condrieu was rich, floral and honeyed. The wine was clear and medium lemon in colour, with perfume of ripe pear, apricot, honeysuckle and bread. On the palate, it was dry and quite full-bodied with medium-low level acidity and noticeable alcoholic heat. Flavours of toast, peach and blossom filled the medium-long finish.
It was a controversial wine among tasters, as some admired the exotic perfume of honey, flowers and stone fruits, while some found it flabby, alcoholic and out of balance. To be honest, this bottle Condrieu was on the riper end of the spectrum, and might have lost more acidity in grape ripening and in the winemaking.

Well balanced mellow palate, of course low in acidity but enough to keep the freshness, mature yellow fruits is dominating, also spicy Viognier stuff, slightly bitter finish. Drink now - onwards

Fresh, fruity and elegant nose of red currant, leafy, brewed tea and black pepper with citrus highlights. Med-full bodied; good acidity with balanced tannins. Long peppery finish.

Stor takk til Merete Bøe som i februar 2017 gjorde meg oppmerksom på denne matchen: Condrieu og St. Felicien! Condrieu er en appelasjon i nord-Rhône og druen her er Viognier. Domain du Chene 2016 er en fruktig, floral og mineralsk vin (alt-på-en-gang) med urter, litt sten og god lengde. Munnfølelse er rund og stor, litt fet og syren er moderat. En nydelig math til den milde, lekre, ku-baserte osten St. Felicien som underlig nok også kommer fra Rhône-dalen... 90 poeng til begge, 91 til matchen (av og til blir summen av 1+1 større enn 2, om ikke det = lykke, vet ikke jeg��).

Day 1: incredible aromatic nose, apricot jam, floral and white peach mixed with baking spice and creme brûlée, ripe apricot and candied orange notes, golden colour, incredibly complex and interesting

Day 2: more classic Condrieu with ripe apricot and ginger spice, apricot kernel on the finish, still amazing

A groggy night on the banks of the Rhône (Le Beau Rivage Condrieu): The top cuvée named for his daughter. Fine olive scented and bright fruit with tannins in check. A very good wine.

Pale colour. Good flowery nose, only slightly marred by a hint of the cardboardy-sweaty smell which can plague viognier wines (note: this has nothing to do with cork taint); however, this is barely noticeable. The mouth is purer, with the usual irresistible apricot flavours; the acidity is on the low side, but very decent for a Condrieu. Certainly not flabby in any way.
Altogether a fairly good Condrieu, but not a great one. This was somewhat cheaper than the usual tarif, so the value for money is more than acceptable.

Black fruits, tarry, perfumes and herbal. Really focused and beginning to open up. Had that lovely fragrant chewyness you get with st joseph.

Still slightly tight yet it's persistent. Still perhaps a touch green and austere with the fruit fighting to get to the fore a little.
