Not as lifted and more chalky as that Aligoté, but certainly not the reductive style so en vogue these days. |

This really displays some of the silky, smoky, generous but ultra-refined house style, with a whiff of Asian spices, flowers and sweet but fresh fruit, papery tannins, wonderful flowing length with a touch of wood. Village quality easily. |

An energetic style for this hot vintage, crisp and steely, floral, lovely varietal typicity, nice touch of warmth from the wood, delicately grippy bitters, dry and appetising finish. |

Uncomplicated but really attractive. |

1/10/2020 - Burgnick wrote: NRThe cork was so stiff which raised our suspicion if it was a fake bottle. The color and taste of the wine aligned with its age. It still retained fruit and acidity. It could be an old burgundy, old barolo or old beaujolais. Louis Michel confirmed that the bottle was a fake when he saw the photo. The merchant acknowledged the mistake and fully-refunded the bottle. |

On the palate considerable richness and depth, with balanced round soft tannins along with quite a bit of supporting acidity to prop up the dark cherry, smoke, tobacco, earth and leather flavors. Sourced from a perfect private cellar, this is a fabulous showing! |

11/14/2015 - William Kelley Likes this wine: 94 pointsThis bottle of 1949 Musigny was on great form, bursting from the glass with an exquisite bouquet of dried roses, autumn leaves, beetroot, roast meat and chocolatey soil tones. On the palate the wine is broad and expansive, its tannins fully melted, but pure and true through the finish. Contemplative stuff. |

Quite a volatile nose coupled with some earth and soy notes. Still has vinous sweetness but is not really a pleasant drink. Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

The palate had lovely complexity and texture, while still having a woven core of red fruit and acid lifting the wine. A terrifically appealing and balanced wine across all its elements. |

5/13/2012 - alanr Likes this wine: NRPale fruit and perfume nose with an interesting array of spices when first poured. The spice and perfume dissipated within minutes, leaving a bit of harshness and old kitchen sink on the nose, but the palate held well, with elegant, frail fruit, some bottle sweetness, touch of mineral, hint of creosote; A fine and pleasant wine. |

12/5/2010 - Vinomane wrote: 92 pointsCork fully saturated, rotten on bottom without affecting the wine. Successfully extracted with the new Durand device made especially for fragile ancient corks. Very powerful for old Burg, its aromas filled the room during decanting. On the palate, big and rich and long, quite atypical Burg in that roasted 1947 way, yet there is another element, something foreign -- was this wine "balanced out" with something other than grand cru Pinot? Drinking beside its perfect match, the same producer's 1949, made this a very salient question. Where the '49, also a hot vintage, is pure, classic, characteristic Musigny, this one could almost pass as old Hermitage. In short, an extremely fine, thoroughly enjoyable, fully mature drink, but not one that makes you think "Musigny" or even "Cote de Nuits grand cru." |

Pale color, like so many old grands crus it gains weight and power as it stretches its long-confined muscles over time. Drunk beside the initially showier 1947, it ends up on top. A bottle in perfect condition. |

8/25/2010 - dream wrote: 93 pointsA very well-stored bottle. Extraordinary color of light ruby with no browning which is amazing for such an old wine. Classic old Burg nose of haunted forest and old wood. Lovely cherry-barnyard flavors along with a taste of ancient wood. The texture is quite silky and the finish is finely complex. There is firm acidity which is just a bit overpowering but that's splitting hairs for what was a wonderful opportunity to taste such an old Burgundy in such fine condition. |
