Much better than the previous bottles which were probably corked.
Very moderate amount of volatile acid, tertiary notes (coffee, mushroom). Feels very fresh in the mouth with some residual Fruits. Salivating. Long finish. The bottles kept well for three days.

Very pale and slightly orange.
Oxydised with high acidity. Didn't really evolve positively over 6 hours.

MNB: Grab Bag IV (Home (Noe st)): (blind)

Pale ruby, hints of garnet.

Aged nose - tertiary, with bottle sweetness - that sweet tamari/apple, slight perfumed apple-florals (age). Savory tamari. This has age. Fruit is fully tertiary - seems lighter - like it didn't have deep cassis at any point in its evolution. Strong stewed mushroom.

On the palate. dry, medium plus bodied (13.5% alcohol), high acid, medium minus tannins - totally resolved, Hints of barrel aging - faint dried-out spices. sandalwood.

Given the cleanness, maybe a new world wine.

New world pinot, syrah, etc.

Too ripe for burgundy.

Not enough tannin for bordeaux.

Not enough oak for Rioja.

Final guess: 1997 Sonoma Pinot Noir (warmer year), great quality.

Actually 1989 Arbois (trousseau and poulsard) - probably no new oak. camille loye cuvee st paul, 13% alcohol.

Very nice. Gentle, almost rose wine with still good acidity and complex bouquet. For me it tastes and smells like a really aged Barolo with somewhat more acidity. Interesting after 31 years.

13% alcohol.

Translucent, pale reddish orange color with a developed mahogany hue. Rich, tertiary and already somewhat oxidative nose with aromas of sweet raisins, some nutty tones, a little bit of mushroomy character, light soy sauce aromas, a hint of strawberry jam and a touch of smoke. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and very aged on the palate with tertiary flavors of dried dates, meat stew, some salty soy sauce notes, a little bit of exotic spice, light mineral tones, a hint of raisin and a touch of oxidative nuttiness. The wine is moderately high in acidity with no tannins at all. The finish is long and tertiary with developed flavors of nuttiness, some stale bread, a little bit of smoke, light soy sauce tones, a hint of dried red fruits and a touch of beef jerky.

A very old and tertiary Trousseau past its peak. The wine is still quite enjoyable despite its advanced age - evident in how the bottle emptied itself over the course of our dinner - but the wine is already so old you really can't taste any sense of place or varietal characteristics here. The overall style is quite similar to an old Burgundy, but only tertiary fruit in place of Pinosity. The wine is so old I'm not rating it, but should I score the wine, it would be in the mid-to-low 80's. A nice experience at 28,50€, but perhaps not really worth the price.

Alpine wines (Dino's Grotto - Washington, DC): The nose is like a mix of Tawny port, tomato plant and volatility. Plush and sweet on the palate, Port-like with some baked fruit and lots of candied nuts. Not much acidity. Old and odd.

From memory, pale garnet to tawny edges, bright and barely ripe reddish nose and palate, clean and light texture with plenty of flavor, maturity showing up mostly for the finish. I haven't tasted this against the other vintages (88, 89), but I did not find it inferior as did some others. Enjoyed with sous vide veal chops.

MNB: Old Wines II (Jesper's): Pale garnet to a tawny rim.
Old wine nose. Sweet tamari apple. Bottle sweetness - dried honey, werthers butterscotch (bottle age plus oak?).
Dry, 13.5% alcohol, medium minus tannins totally melted and almost gone. High acid. Super light.

Laterals
Burgundy.
Chianti
Barolo

The tannins seem super light. I think it’s slightly oaked.

Based on the elevated acid and slight grip, I think this is a burgundy from the 70’s.

Final call: 1978 Burgundy. Good quality.

Actual: 1989 camille loye arbois trousseau.

Analysis: At this age, with this much oxidation and tertiary development, it's very hard to identify style. That said, Arbois isn't that far from Burgundy. It was a lot younger than I thought, based on the degree of development - maybe oxidative winemaking?

Vintages ending in 8 (La Trompette, London): Blind. Very pale garnet. Hugely volatile nose. A sweetness too. Volatile and a touch of ox. Gosh. This is a contrast. Tough going in the company, but would work well in context as a vin de soif or a light sausage wine. *** in the right context.

Either this bottle was off, or this wine is just simply past its prime. Cool wine to taste but not the most delicious. Dried pomegranate, morels, smoke.

Decanted, tasted over 2 hrs, no sediment at all - must have been filtered, cork in great shape
-semi-translucent light red with mild/mod bricking
-cranberry mature elements
-med acidity, med- weight yet moderate depth, still some sappy ripe red fruit remnants mixed with sweet decaying forest floor and a touch of caramel on the finish with nearly completely resolved tannins
-pleasant fully mature but not over the hill, might have been more interesting/complex if it wasn't filtered

Opens more slowly than the '89--give it at least an hour to get rolling--and then finally offers something lively, like withered petals dressed with a hard cider vinegar, and becomes a lovely and unique food wine. Disgusting at first, this turn into something people were fighting for by the last sip. Based on a limited sample of one each, compared to this '87, the '89 is undoubtedly preferable.

Initially smells of vinegar. Then intoxicating and exotic. Totally ready. Still thrilling. Long finish of unfolding and receding fruit.

Had as aperitif but wonder how would be with ice cream.

Mature nose with kirsch, balsamico, leather and some funky notes. Not as mature feeling in the mouth, but the leather and balsamico notes remaining. Very high acidity and still some tannins remaining. Quite good, but I'm not dissapointed that this was my only bottle.

Interesting. Sous bois nose. A touch of fruit on the attack but quickly fades to mature and earthy flavors. Good acidity and a bigger rounder feel than I would have expected.
