Dark garnet color. Cola and a panapoly of red fruits on the nose. Delicious red fruit centric, especially strawberries, and a touch of Indian spices.

Dark but not opaque ruby red with purple rim. Blackcurrant, cassis, plum, dark cherry, mint, capsicum, cedar, floral, black truffle, herbs and spices. Full bodied, medium-high acidity, medium-high to high silky tannin, medium-high structure, medium alcohol and long finish. Bold and concentrated black fruits. Complex, layered and well-balanced. Wine good bite and luxurious palate.

Enjoyable to drink now as a youthful bold claret, and would cellar well for the next 3 decades.

2 hours in the decanter.
First of all this is the most powerful wine from St.Emilion. What do I mean by that? A lot of coffee, tobacco and spice. Black fruits, minerals, cocoa powder, black olives ( or something similar to it), licorice. Very long dry finish. Grippy tannins, vivid acidity.
It looks great, but there's something missing in this puzzle. I don't know...
I know for sure one thing - no excitement here.
Second disappointment - weak aromas. Mostly minerals, vanilla, cherry, plum, milk chocolate.
People like it, critics like it.
Bad day?

Flowers, black cherries, licorice and crushed stone aromatics create the perfume. On the palate, the wine is soft, polished, fresh and silky, allowing all the sweet, ripe, salty red fruits to express themselves in the mid-palate and in the refreshing, mint-accented finish. The wine blends 61% Merlot with 39% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2038.

Fine, medium weight claret, elegant, with pure fruit (plum/blackberry) and a good finish. Excellent now, but will keep well.

Dinner with Friends (R&R's): Double blind. Deep crimson color. Aromas of red currants and herbs with just a hint of iron in the background. Medium-bodied with nicely ripened red berry fruit. Dark raspberry and currant qualities as it unfurls in the glass. There's an opulence here that has me thinking it could be a Napa blend masquerading as Bordeaux. In the end I decided the structure and acid were old world and the ripeness came from the vintage so I guessed 2009 Bordeaux. this paired beautifully with the lamb. My favorite of the four wines. (R&R)

I'm puzzled by the previous two notes; this wine is coming along very nicely indeed. It's still a bit tannic, of course - at four years old, that's hardly a surprise. But the fruit is good and there's plenty of aromatic complexity. You can drink it now, but best to give it another few years.

D1
Nose of Cherries, herbs, and chocolate for a sweet round and sumptuous bouquet.

Palate of full bodied with an angular and bracing middle. Chalky black cherry and wet stone up front. Chalky tannins with a mineral mid palate with hints of chocolate. Lovely finish with notes of licorice and a menthol feel. Chewy and pleasant end.

D2:
Nose of soft bright berries…almost melon. Hints of bay leaf.
Palate has cherry up front with wet stone still there. Much softer. Better on Day 1.

While it got better after three nights under a cork, it started poorly and never got to good. It is dusty and tight, without real charm.

7/23/2023 - henrygjeffreys Likes this wine: NR

Bright red colour, touch of orange on the rim,
Tobacco and walnut on the nose with some red fruit,
VEry mellow on the palate, just a whisper of tannin, fresh red cherry fruit and then tobacco, leather and some nutty notes.
This is really lovely, mellow and a a bit fading but still lots of freshness and bright fruit. No awkward tannins like in many 2006s I have tried.
Just a lovely wine to drink and enjoy with roast beef.
I didnt' decant because I was worried about it falling apart in the glass but it held together surprisingly well so I don't think there's any hurry to drink now.

Well this is everything the 2019 wasn't. Super-charming right out of the gate, full of bright red berry fruit in pastel hues - quite vivid, but still pleasantly airy and transparent. The texture is equally charming and refined, no rough edges here. It did show a little bit of woodiness, but not in a way that impinged on anything else going on.

6/4/2023 - Keith Levenberg Does not like this wine: NR

I've had some seriously good wine from this chateau, but this one was, shall we say, difficult. It doesn't lack for material and is packed with deep, dark black plums. But I also found the tannins fairly raw and edgy with a not-so-fresh ashiness impinging on the fruit. There is something about the wood that is just not jiving here - it is not heavy, but it comes across raw and not fully clean. It might fix itself up in the cellar but I wasn't drawn in by anything else that would justify the science experiment.

Example of a Bordeaux wine that needs age to soften, still needs more time to become prime, then the question becomes: for how long is that window open before the wine starts to deteriorate? My understanding is that in days long gone, Bordeaux wine would travel long distances in the holds of sailing ships, often through tropical climates, before reaching their destination a year or so later, and that the voyage would do much to soften the wine, making the wine more drinkable. Note that other reviewers reference decanting this wine, sometimes to little improvement.
Today my father would have been 99 years old, we share a French name, and for dinner I'm eating steak, so I popped the cork before dinner to try this wine, which is not what I would normally uncork on a Thursday night, but my father was a Grand Cru human being, so here we are.
Grippy, but not overly so. Dense but not plush, more broad-shouldered and rowdy, not at all seductive. Offers strength and some power, but no elevation. Honestly, I'm increasingly disappointed by this so-called 'old world' style of wine because in my mind the reliance on 'tradition' makes for a lesser wine, one that offers less enjoyment. I marked the 2015 Château Berliquet as "I like it" but only because there was no "Sort of like it" designation. Will not buy again.
