4/19/2024 - MQuentel@web.de Does not like this wine: 75 pointsFrom the magnum, overripe, hot, notes of dried fruit and rum pot. There is a distinct lack of freshness, the alcohol is warming. A bottle without joy. |

One whiff and I'm transported back to the winery, walking among those giant eucalyptus trees with Pedro teaching us about the wonderful history of this property. A delicious blend of Aragonez, Trincadeira, Castelão and Alicante Bouchet. I honestly can't stop smelling this. Dusty red fruit, leather, spice, eucalyptus, licorice. This is so complex. I can't believe this is only $12. On the palate, lots of the same with juicy acidity. The red fruit and eucalyptus really shine here. Firm tannins and a medium length finish. Really nice mouthfeel, but that nose. I love this. Definitely my favorite Alentejo producer and one of my top 2 favorites in all of Portugal. |

3/22/2024 - AlanM68 Likes this wine: 90 pointsI had a case of this and plainly drank most too early. I’m on bottle 10 now and with some time in the decanter, it’s drinking well. Big, rich, rounded. No hard edges, none of the tannin from, say, 5 years ago. Like a barolo from 2 decades ago that needs time to shake out. The last 2 should wait a few years - this is coming into its own now, but needs 3+ years. Could be 92-94 then. If you have one, wait. If you have a few, try one now and then wait for the rest. And tell me what you think. |

3/3/2024 - MrKelmanson wrote: 92 pointsUnder-rated. At 13 it’s elegant and delicious. 1 hr airing in bottle. Keeps revealing in glass. Spices, black cherry, tart cherry, leather, earth. Juicy and concentrated with fine tannins. As a Rioja fan, this is right up my street. Old vines blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Trincadeira, Castelão and Alicante Bouchet. Great with Chinese barbecue. |

Full bodied, a tad austere....the palate is less resolved but the gold is there. Compact until the long finale. Great structure, great balance and a great potential ahead. Hold another 4/6 years |

12/22/2023 - mwagner7700 wrote: NRPurchased at the winery for 14€. Beautiful dark garnet on color. It is no secret that I hold Mouchão in my highest regard. When it comes to tradition, that are at the top in Portugal. What's not as well known (but should be), is everything they do to support the local communities (yes, plural). From supporting local schools, to buying soccer uniforms for the local children's teams, their support of the surrounding towns is heartwarming. But it goes beyond that. They even make wine for the local communities. See my post from June on the table wine. |

10/15/2023 - Westcoastred Likes this wine: 88 pointsNose of cherry, raspberry and a little raisin. Herbaceous. Medium purple in the glass, slightly leggy. Black fruit, some red, spicy acidity on the palate. Powdery tannins. Dry and bold, medium to full bodied. Slightly tart, a little oily. Black cherry, blackberry, baking spices, oak. An easy drinker with an enjoyable flavor profile. Definitely makes me interested in trying other Mouchãos. Did not have with food. |

9/2/2023 - amateur62 Likes this wine: 90 pointsLast bottle, PnP. Similar to the last bottle two years ago. On the nose lemon and fresh herbs, no signs of mature notes, fresh and dense with a nice bitter note and a long finish. In a good spot, will most probably not improve with further cellaring but there is also no hurry to empty the last bottles (if there are any left). |

8/27/2023 - mwagner7700 wrote: NRPurchased for 25€ at the winery when we visited this past June. This sweet dessert wine is from 100% Alicante Bouschet and is made in the traditional Port way, where brandy is added during fermentation to stop the process and retain the sugars. Similar to an LBV, it's aged in wood for 5-6 years. In this case, it's aged in 2,200L tonel. Dark garnet in color, this absolutely stains the glass. This is big, sweet, thick, mouth coating. Everything I love in fortified wine. Outstanding notes of blackberries, black cherry, dark chocolate with hints of prune and eucalyptus (definitely influenced by the giant eucalyptus trees on the property at Mouchão). As with everything they make, this is simply marvelous. Easily ranks up there with my favorite ruby Ports. |

5/20/2023 - mwagner7700 wrote: NRPurchased for $28. Let me start by saying i am a huge fan of Mouchão. I am a huge fan of wineries that follow tradition and history in their wine making. There are very few in Portugal that can match the history at tradition of Mouchão. This is the 2016 Ponte. It's a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Syrah. Foot trodden, and aged in oak for 18mo. I triple (yes, 3x) splash decanted this and let it sit for 5 hours. Five. Consumed over the next 3. After 8hrs, the wine was still tight but starting to show what Mouchão is. Absolutely stunning notes of dark berries, spice, mint and earth. I could smell this for days. The palate is insanely tight. I think I lost a layer of skin from my tongue and i have no teeth enamel left. But the blackberry, pepper and spice on the palate is outstanding. It is hard to believe that you can find a wine if this pedigree and structure for $28. This can, and should, age did another 5-10 years... Minimum. As much as i enjoy wineries pushing the boundaries, everyone should take note. There is tradition for a reason. Because it's tried and true. Because when something works, you don't change it. Because there's over one hundred years of experience and wisdom guiding your path. Open this in the morning, serve it at dinner. And you'll experience a century of knowledge in your glass. Bravo. Standing ovation!!!!!! |
