2013 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru ButteauxChardonnay more |
8/14/2021 - pll4 Likes this wine: NRFirst of my 13 Butteaux to be opened. This is the most open of any “young” Raveneau I’ve experienced. I usually wait about 10 years to start opening them and I’m glad I popped this one because I’d say it’s ready for business. The sulfur has been rendered and I’d say this wine is mature and maybe not getting better. If you have one bottle, I’d say drink up. Still a tremendous drink in a tough vintage from the master. |

4/20/2021 - pll4 Likes this wine: 92 pointsMaybe the best Sauvignon blanc I’ve ever had and still fresh as a daisy. Wasn’t sure what to expect and it far exceeded any expectations. Didier was a master and this wine is proof. |

6/23/2018 - pll4 Likes this wine: 95 pointsRather tight and closed upon opening. Took over 6 hours in bottle to fully blossom and reveal the extent of this offering. Fairly exotic as it fans out but with such focus and precision. Terrific stuff here and I would hold on a few years if I had more. |

2008 Etienne Sauzet Chevalier-MontrachetChevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru Chardonnay more |
11/25/2017 - pll4 Likes this wine: 96 pointsSo broad and voluptuous, yet so much cut and precision. This is a tremendous bottle with so much length and gives as much pleasure as possible in a white wine. Drinking beautifully now and will not wait long to consume the rest of my bottles. |

2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les TilletsChardonnay more |
1/16/2016 - pll4 Likes this wine: 93 pointsAudouzed for 3 hours. Gorgeous bottle that really opens up as it warms to room temperature. Citrus, dried herbs, a touch of popcorn. Powerful, yet with a core of acidity and texture. Will wait on my other bottles for a few years as it has much room for maturation. |

3/15/2012 - pll4 wrote: 88 pointsThis was very reduced with some nice tension behind it. If I were opening any bottles now I would decant for a day or I would wait to open another bottle for at least a few years. I think there is a pretty great wine here, but it is severely blocked by reduction today. |

2009 Anthill Farms Pinot Noir Anderson Valleymore |
3/13/2012 - pll4 wrote: 88 pointsMy first Anthill Farms...very interesting. If I were blind, at times at would have thought this was a white wine. Very exotic aromas of tropical fruits, especially mangoes, strawberry flavored cotton candy, and a hint of oak. The wine is very soft and pleasing in the mouth. Literally no tannin to be found at all. I would say that this is a very unique CA Pinot and a pretty neat as a novelty item, although not that appealing for the price. |

3/5/2012 - pll4 wrote: NRFortunate enough to get a small glass of this at lunch. Truly stunning in its perfume and grace. Beautiful aromas of dried flowers, fennel, and fruit from the darker spectrum. Very cool in the mouth and the tannins are velvety at this point and it is very persistent. I would say this wine is entering its drinking window and should continue to hold indefinitely. |

2/22/2012 - pll4 wrote: 92 pointsThis was very surprising and completely outperformed the other previous bottles I've had. I used to completely agree with sentiments below, but this seemed to have turned around. In a good place now, but still has a ways to go if you want. Very pure and the aromatics changed from oak tones to spice tones and then on to soil tones. Didn't really get any of the "baked" characteristics. |

2000 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva AsiliNebbiolo more |
2/4/2012 - pll4 wrote: NRNo rating given as this wine didn't quite live up to my expectations. Double decanted and consumed over 2 hours and seemed quite closed and shy aromatically. Very subtle balsamic notes, dried roses, black cherries, and vanilla. Very focused tannins, but a bit short in my opinion. I'm giving this wine the benefit of the doubt as I may have caught in a dumb phase and didn't live up to the expectations of some of the most recent notes on CT. |

12/23/2011 - pll4 wrote: 94 pointsPopped and poured at dinner with no formal notes taken, but this was a great, great bottle of Syrah. This could be held for the medium term, but why wait as it is drinking wonderfully now. The pure essence of the vineyard in the truest sense. |

1/30/2012 - pll4 wrote: 92 pointsI thought this was gorgeous so young. Missed the boat on acquiring a few more bottles...shame. Over time grew more floral and has a brilliant texture in the mouth. Not the most feminine Volnay, but a beautiful bottle nonetheless that I would seek out more of in the future. |

2010 Marcel Lapierre MorgonGamay more |
1/30/2012 - pll4 wrote: 88 pointsPopped and poured and consumed over 3 days. It is at its best on day 3 in my opinion. Began to soften and really open up with aromas of kirsch, flowers, plums, and some dried herbs. It is very bright and has a good amount of tannin, but very focused so I think this has the makeup to really improve over time. The 2010 is a bit different than the 2009, as it has a bit more structure, acid, and minerality in the mouth and is not quite as lush and giving so young. If opening anytime soon, I would advise in a nice decant and serving at a temperature closer to the cellar than room. |

2010 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) ChablisChardonnay more |
1/11/2012 - pll4 wrote: 90 pointsNo formal notes taken...popped and poured. This is great entry level Chablis, albeit expensive for entry level. Although for $45, this is classic and perfectly balanced and everything you could want. I said tonight that "I could chug this wine." That is a good thing. |

1997 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di MontalcinoSangiovese more |
1/5/2012 - pll4 wrote: 95 pointsThis was stunning...popped and poured and drank over 4 hours. Aromas of cherries, dried herbs, fennel and an explosion of cherries in the mouth. This is peaking although with the structure this could hold for some years. A breath of fresh air to see such a light colored wine with both power and finesse. |

12/7/2011 - pll4 wrote: 90 pointsThis bottle wasn't quite as lively as one from last month. Powerful aromas of black tea, fresh pine needles, pomegranate, and savory spices. Very drying on the palate...almost like taking a tea bag and putting iton your tongue. Some crushed red fruits in the mouth as well. Will hold out for some time for the next bottle to see where it is heading. |

12/6/2011 - pll4 wrote: 94 pointsBeautiful bottle...just came at you in waves. Holding firm here and will drink well still for some time I think. This is pure Syrah. Not quite the explosive aromatics of what you would find in a Cote Rotie, but it's own unique style and a bit more subdued. Only wish I had more...decanted for an hour and drank over 2 hours |
