2009 Fleur de FonplégadeSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/5/2024 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 89 pointsFor a second wine, this is pretty brawny stuff, particularly for a 2009. More like the style of a 2010. The tannins are predominant right now, maybe because of the large portion of cab franc. If I had more of this, I wouldn’t touch it for another two years. |

4/5/2024 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 90 pointsFor a second wine, this is pretty brawny stuff, probably because of the large amount of cab franc in the blend. Right now the tannins are still pretty rough, but the fruit is lurking there. |

2012 Château Cantenac BrownMargaux Red Bordeaux Blend more |
4/5/2024 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 91 pointsThis has fleshed out nicely over the past year. Delicious bing cherry and plummy notes. No hurry on this one. |

2/26/2024 - Ranjack wrote: 85 pointsLecheneaut burgundy usually ages like iron, but this one smelled slightly over the hill. I suspect a storage issue from a previous owner. Still, rather pleasant with complex flavors—not a total bust. |

2010 Château Grand Corbin-DespagneSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
12/1/2023 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis wine is in late adolescence, so it’s in an awkward phase. It’s 24% cab franc, so it’s here for the long haul. It started coming around after about 4 hours in a decanter. It needs time, like another five years. A little patience may yield a big reward. |

2009 Château Haut-Bergey BlancPessac-Léognan Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend more |
11/24/2023 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis was rather forbidding when it was younger, but it has blossomed into a beautifully fragrant, rich, complex wine. Maybe the best bottle of Bordeaux I’ve had in years. No hurry to drink up my remaining bottles, either. This one’s in for the long haul. |

9/23/2023 - Ranjack wrote: flawedBadly oxidized. Cork was extremely tight. Bought thru Winebid. Fairly certain somebody dumped it into auction. A little oxidation could have been expected given the age, but this was extreme. Very disappointing. |

2015 Domaine Anne et Hervé Sigaut Chambolle-MusignyPinot Noir more |
9/10/2023 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 89 pointsThis wine smelled like varnish and prunes when I first opened it—nasty. But after an hour or two, the stench blew off to reveal a really big, elegant wine, although not the fabulously floral scented Chambolle I prefer ( and rarely get). I think it’s fully mature, but decant it and don’t touch it for at least two hours. |

2020 Cline Cellars Zinfandel Eight Spur Dry Creek Valleymore |
7/17/2023 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 89 pointsThis is one of the more restrained, elegant zins I’ve had in a long time. The purity of the fruit and relatively low alcohol (14.5%—not bad these days for zin) make this an ideal food wine. Probably would have rated it higher had the QPR been better—a bit pricey. |

3/19/2023 - Ranjack wrote: 83 pointsI bought a case of this wine in about 2012, and while I’ve tried to like it, I never have. I just drank the last bottle, and didn’t like it any more than I did 8 years ago when I opened the first bottle. I think the grapes weren’t ripe enough when picked. I’m no fan of heavy extraction, but I think this is at the other end of the spectrum. Tart, lacking body, muted nose, and lacking complexity. Not my idea of good burgundy. |

1/10/2023 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 92 pointsExcellent! Exotic flavors and aromas of apricots, smoke and herbs that truly are unique. Drink now or hold for a couple of years. |

2016 Edmond Cornu & Fils Corton-BressandesCorton Grand Cru Pinot Noir more |
9/30/2022 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 96 pointsThis is unbelievably good. Deep red fruits, intensely complex nose, very fine tannins. Best wine I’ve had among thirty+ tastings in Burgundy. |

2011 Fernand Lécheneaut et Fils (Philippe et Vincent) Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les DamodesPinot Noir more |
8/14/2022 - Ranjack wrote: 92 pointsThis wine is now fully mature and is truly superb. A complex nose of earth and rose petals accompanied the delicate, red fruit palate. I was expecting a brawnier wine from this domaine. This could have passed as a premier cru from Volnay. It ought to continue to drink well thru 2025. |

2009 Château PibranPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
7/23/2022 - Ranjack wrote: 91 pointsA juicy, fruit-forward wine typical of the 2009s. Decanted for about two hours. Ready to go, but no hurry. Really delicious. This estate has profited from being a part of the Pichon Baron stable. Hard to imagine better QPR. |

2008 Château PibranPauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more |
7/23/2022 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 90 pointsCertainly at its peak, but an elegant Pauillac to be sure. Soft tannins, plums on the palate, a wisp of smoke on the nose. Really fine. |

2010 Château LassègueSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
6/3/2022 - Ranjack Does not like this wine: 79 pointsSmelled, looked and tasted like alcoholic prune juice after only a half-hour decant. The first of a great many 2010 Bordeaux wines I’ve had that was over the hill. |

2010 Château TrapaudSt. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend more |
5/13/2022 - Ranjack wrote: 92 pointsThis wine is superb. A combination of about 70% merlot, 20% cab franc and 10% cab sauv, it has great structure, aromatics and flavor. The tannins are still a bit forward, but not overwhelming. This has to rank as another one of the great qpr wines of this vintage. |

2015 Accornero Barbera del Monferrato Giulinmore |
3/5/2022 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis barbera is really wonderful, regardless of its low price point. This is comfort wine of the first order—hard to put down. |

2013 Domaine Vincent and Sophie Morey Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La TruffièreChardonnay more |
3/1/2022 - Ranjack wrote: 92 pointsThis is my style of Puligny! Rich, fruity, balanced with a cotton candy nose. I think it’s at its peak—may last another year or two. Why wait? Glad I have one more bottle. |

2009 Château CantemerleHaut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend more |
12/17/2021 - Ranjack wrote: 84 pointsAfter 30 years of trying to like Cantemerle, this one has finally put me off of this chateau for good. After a quick double decant, this wine was insipid and uninteresting—just not much there. There are so many other chateaus at better price points that offer so much more. |

12/13/2021 - Ranjack wrote: 90 pointsOpened a bottle of this over the weekend, and was pleasantly surprised by its quality. Deep, rich fruit with big but soft tannins—really fine. Probably will hold up well for another 5-8 years. |

2012 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Châteauneuf-du-PapeRed Rhone Blend more |
7/8/2021 - Ranjack Does not like this wine: 83 pointsThis smelled tired from the moment it was opened, and only got worse with time. It tasted oxidized. The cork was fine ( and the wine wasn’t corked), but there may have been a storage issue. I suspect, however, that it’s just at the end of its drinking window. Avoid. |

2010 Domaine Lucien Boillot et Fils Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les PruliersPinot Noir more |
5/16/2021 - Ranjack Likes this wine: 92 pointsA two hour decant has blown off the barnyard smells and revealed the fruit and complexity of this wine. It’s brawny, but balanced, with a core of dark fruits. No hurry drinking this one. |
