5/5/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is a top knotch pinot. Still with dark colour. Gamey, forest floor, macerated strawberry on the nose. Smooth, huge fruit, relatively big bodied for a pinot. Really stands out with high acid levels which invigorates the fruit. Long silky finish. Yum! |

4/27/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 91 pointsPicked up as a curio at auction. Fill to top of neck so great cork. Deep orange amber colour. Kind of nothing nose who slowly opened up a bit over time but still just a whiff of something ? cinnamon. Sweet but drying at same time. In remarkable nick for a 48 year old wine, could have passed for a 20 year old. Thickish, somewhat unctious and very smooth. Tasted like a mid to top end mature Sauterne but with the structure that Loire chenin gives. Thuis was a lot of fun to open and taste. |

4/24/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 90 pointsRhubarb and charcoal on the nose. Quite dense and concentrated. Tertiary fruit characters from the nose but with a green herbal twist. Slightly unusual profile. Very smooth. Medium bodied - a food wine. |

4/23/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 89 pointsDeep yellow. Very mature. quite a throwback to older versions of chardy with complex full flavour - no Chablis here. Lacking anything thast scales the heights, reasonable mid week drinking |

2014 Lerida Estate Pinot Noir Josephine Lake GeorgeCanberra District more |
4/22/2024 - crazywineguy wrote: 88 pointsA very mature pinot at 10 years of age. Fruit fading and a charcoal element to the fore which was stronger than it needed to be. Medium bodied. Moderate finish. Ok but probably should have been drunk sooner to enjoy the primary palate structure. |

2017 Mayer NebbioloYarra Valley more |
4/20/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 89 pointsUsual light colour that makes you think it is more aged than it is. 12.5%. Cranberry, woodsmoke, hint of sulphur and sandalwood. Almost a pinot like tilt to it. Lovely mouthfeel. Light bodied and perhaps a tad dilutish in feel due to the low alcohol. Classic Neb finish. I think this might be at or just pass the peak so drink up. The tannins are superfine and furry and in contrast to the light body ie you expect a deeper wine for the tannins or lighter tannins for the depth of the body. |

4/19/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 91 pointsA cool climate Gruner. Buttercup yellow. Equal parts jasmine and honeysuckle - very fragrant and aromatic. More honeysucke than jasmine on palate with a hint of mead and then the Gruner herbal twist on the finish which has a slight bitter short texture on it that I see as a varietal character of ripe Gruner fruit rather than a winemaking fault. This grows on you. Kind of like a cross between a gewurz and a roussanne. |

2008 Giaconda AeoliaOvens Valley Roussanne more |
4/17/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 90 pointsWell found a stray bottle down the back of the sofa in the wine cellar (sort of). Deep golden. Nose still full of fruit but golden burnt gardenia notes. Full body. Finish starting to shorten up (fair enough at 16 years of age for a roussanne). Always a rich chicken dish wine given its huge structure. Just lacks a touch of finesse or polish to go to the heights. |

2014 Williams & Humbert Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Fino en rama 2014 Saca Octubre 2021Palomino Fino more |
4/16/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 93 pointsVery dry, quite developed and oxidative but clearly fino with age and takes it to a diferrent space compared to a young 'en saca'. Yes, salty, tangy, briney but also toasty, soft mouthfeel, olive notes, walnuts and something indefinable. Incredibly long finish. Can see this would be an acquired taste to many but to the sherry tragics this is just heaven. Deserves a high score. |

3/28/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 92 pointsWell this has come along from 2 years ago. Silly pale colour at 11 years of age. Reduction nose but fruit emerging from the sulphur fog (not detectable now). Warms and fills out with airing. Delicate but pure, linear and focused. Would seem to have a semi indefinite life at leat based on colour etc. Have 2 left and will revisit in 2 yeard. |

3/23/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 93 pointsWonderful bottle. Golden. Tertiary notes of mushroom, candy, spice. Soft - acidity there but tailing off. Lovely fresh saline finish on the back palate and goes on loooong. Wow! Wish all had been like this out of the case. I think I should check out the '08 given the vintage quality of it. |

2013 Ashton Hills Pinot Noir No. 2 Piccadilly ValleyAdelaide Hills more |
3/20/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 91 pointsOld Aussie pinot can be a crapshoot but generally not with Ashton Hills who deliver more often than not. Great colour (magenta centre), voluminous nose of berry/undergrowth and in the groove mature pinot New World.Mature but not tertiary, smooth but not low acid or gone. Resolved but still present tannins via slight furriness of tongue. Medium to long finish. And this isn't even the best they produce or that they produced that year. Time to consume if you have in the cellar. |

3/16/2024 - crazywineguy wrote: 88 pointsVery light colour, could almost be a dark rose. 11% alcohol. Cloudy, unfiltered. Macerated strawberries nose, light jammy. Maturing so clearly a drink now/up proposition. slight browning element that can come to light reds as they age. Soft low acid finish. Sunday lunch wine. |

2013 Lake's Folly Chardonnay Hill BlockPokolbin more |
3/13/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 92 pointsHill Block, made in tiny quantities of 175 cases. Bottled seperately because of the terroir of red soil over limestone. Deep buttercup yellow. Fully ripe and mature with rockmelon, stonefruit, touch of cashew. Ripe fruit, no early picking here or blocking of malo etc. Classic palate structure for Lakes Folly - tastes unique to this place and Tyrrell's, Scarborough and others can't be mistaken for this. Made for a rich sauce dish eg lobster in beurre blanc sauce. Really seems to have another 5 years in it's stride although I think it has hit it's maturity peak. Yum! |

2017 Pipers Brook Vineyard Late DisgorgedTamar Valley Champagne Blend more |
3/3/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 90 pointsAt $50 or so this has great QPR. Complex, some depth and a touch of brioche and creaminess. I think the time on lees has helped. Almost as good as vintage Arras at a fraction of the price. This has matured since release - the lemony intensity has dialed down and replaced with complexity so I think it is drinking well now. |

2017 Tar & Roses NebbioloHeathcote more |
3/3/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 91 pointsDrinking Trees nails the tasting note. This was classical in structure but missing that bitter herbal twist of the Italian versions. Really opened up after an hour in the decanter, give it some breathing time. Definatley better with food (protein). Ready now. |

2013 Home Hill Pinot Noir Kelly's ReserveSouthern Tasmania more |
3/3/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 92 pointsA full bodied pinot, Burgundian even. Mature but certainly not tertiary - could go another 5 years before declining I think. Beautiful with manchego cheese. My sole bottle alas. Depth plus concentration plus complex fruit equals high score and much drinking pleasure. |

2/16/2024 - crazywineguy Likes this wine: 89 pointsFor a 5 year old arneis wasn't expecting much but this was properly true to varietal and interesting in that go with food Italian style. Got better with warming and airing. Interesting drop. Clearly can last, not sure if it was any better than on release. |
