I'm glad I didn't pay for this.
It's not offensive, just not much too it. Taste: hints of cranberry, red fruits. Some vanilla on the backend. Light and unforgettable.

N: black currant, plum notes with red fruit as well. Very nice nose.
t: I really enjoyed this wine for the price. Good effort. Nice currant/black/blue berry flavors with hints of red fruit. Excellent value for 11.98. Good tannins, nice long finish, not much oak,

Quick review for this one from memory.
N: Smokey, cassis,dark cherry
T: Delicious but not terribly complex. Agree with the reviewer who said pop and pour... Some nice tannins. Nice finish, hints of oak not overdone though.

This could be a good every day drinker for what I paid ($6.98)...
N: faint, but notes of berry/plum/current. Tobacco and spice
T: Pinking up a bit of the red berry, but definitely can taste spice and tobacco. Pretty good effort and well balanced. Might benefit from decanting for an hour or so.
I might come back and score this even higher on the next bottle (buying more)... It was being slightly overpowered what I was eating (a very dry/sharp provolone).

2003 Talamonti Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Kudos
more
|
This is an IGT blend, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (70%), Merlot (30%).
Nose: Blueberry, Currants, Red berries
Taste: Good fruit, pretty complex. Getting the berries strong up front on the attack. hints of vanilla, smokey... Good tannin structure. Stay's with you.
Unsure what was paid for this, but I seem to be able to find it between $20-$30 - suggested retail at $26.99

Nose: red cherry - strong, strong red cherry on the nose. Not totally dissimilar from the old Luden's cough drops. A bit spice comes with it. Very pleasant.
Taste: Cherry juice. Definite spice coming along for the ride, the cinnamon that WS talked about in their review is very noticeable. Fades VERY quickly. Not very complex.
For $6.98 (at the Wine Library) you aren't going to get much better value than this (outside Portugal). A good effort.

Nose a bit muted, but good red fruit notes (cherry/cranberry).
Nice complexities. Good fruit, true to the nose. No heat at all, decent structure, decent length on the back end.
Another great QPR pinot if you buy it for the 13.98 that I paid through wine library versus the $17 or $18 retail price.
(Short on the details as this is from memory).

Nose: A bit subdued at first... Red fruit: cherry/pomegranate, hints of sour cranberry. Slightly candied.
Taste: Cranberries and cherries. Hint of cola. Some decent complexity that you wouldn't normally see in a $6-$7 wine from other regions. Decent structure. Geat on the back end, but not overwhelming.
Excellent value for $6.99

A rip-off at $9 - I've had jug wines that are significantly better.
Nose was decent but not worth commenting further on given the garbage that made its way into my mouth. No body or structure was present, very little fruit or flavor at all - with the exception of alcohol heat. Poor effort.

nose - big - jammy plum, cherry cough drop, tobacco,
Cherry, plum, dark fruit bomb - good acid structure and decent finish, heat on the backend but nothing offensive. A bit too over the top for my tastes
Note: This was tasted after being decanted for over 2 hours as I didn't start tasting when I expected to

nose - vegetable floral. Gary was exactly right, heavy on the vegetables and dirt. Good stuff
Taste - again heavy on the vegetables, especially green pepper. Very little fruit component - I hate to be unoriginal and just echo Gary V., but he was dead on. I really enjoyed this wine. Hell, I paid under $10 for this bottle! What an absolute steal!

Good nose - red fruits (strawberries, pom), definitely picking up floral and mineral components.
Taste - nice fresh cherry... also subtle strawberry and blueberry hints. Little hot and spicy on the backend.

not much on the nose... nose like jug sangio. A little spice.
Lame on the palate. Not offensive or bad, but not worth drinking. A bit of bitter almost cranberry and cherry taste. Very simple. I don't know what this cost as it was a gift, but unless it is free again I'm going to avoid it (and even if it is, I'll probably pass).

NOSE: little plum, lots of berries - did have a cherry cola thing going on too. Did seem to have a slightly sour component at first as well which seemed to fade. Vanilla presented itself after the pour.
Palate: I found this too light. Cherry / cherry cola flavor on the palate. Sweetness was there, but did have a syrupy (as opposed to natural) quality. Too much oak. Also too hollow and the finish was hot.

Dark purple color....
Nose is ripe med. fruits...
Palate - Strawberries, heavy strawberry juice with blueberries. Fruit Bomb, which is not my fav but I did like this wine overall. Good value.
Originally tried it with stuffed peppers, and it was just not doing it for me. Decided to try it later, happened to be eating a pork tamale. Really started to open up a bit more.

Light gold color...
Green apple / mineral nose. Smells crisp
Taste - Crisp mineral taste. Picking up a lot of green apple - the candy version, like jolly ranchers. Clean and refreshing. Pleasant and a good value as you can likely find it cheaper than the 14.99 or so I paid for it (judging by some quick web searches).

From the label, this is a fruit wine with brandy.
Just a quick note on this one - My wife likes this, hence I bought it (mid $20's.)
This is a sweet wine that is closer to an after dinner brandy drink. Very hot, very blueberry. Not my cup of tea, but not an awful attempt.

Let me start this by saying that I am not sure what this cost at the retailer as it was a gift.... My understanding is the purchaser paid in the neighborhood of $22.
Dark red / black in color.
Dark black cherry on the nose... Dark fruit. A very, very slight medicinal component. Probably could use a little more time....
Taste is again dark cherry with a plum component - also noticing slight cranberry notes. Noticing some decent acidity - but the finish is a bit too hot. Again, I think this could benefit from a little more age - and perhaps even some decanting might help open the mid palate and finish up a bit more.
Assuming this is around the $22 I believe the person who gave this to me paid, I would likely purchase again. Enjoyable, the finish is hot but not hot enough to kill my palate.

Not a ton to say here - I felt this was a so-so vino that didn't differentiate itself from most generic low end zins. Nose had some fruit but it smelled artificial (candied) and had a strong medicinal component. Taste was just ok. Flavor didn't thrill me - some fruit on the front end (again, not real fresh ripe fruit). Nothing at all special here, and I will not purchase this myself.
I received this as a gift so I'm not sure what this cost.

Appearance was ruby to purple...
Nose: dark... Plum and a bit of blueberry, violet, little bit of cedar
Taste: Lighter than I expected. Hints of pepper with some of the plum and blueberry but very light. Heat throughout. Hollow mid palate and thin finish. No lingering taste, although a bit of heat sticks around and the mouth grip doesn't disappear immediately.
Pass.

Ruby color - not too dark, could faintly see through it.
Smell: primarily dark berries... A bit strong on the tannins. Some vanilla and floral notes.
Taste: black cherry/cranberry... Good mouth grip, still feeling the tannins and alcohol. Lingering hints of cranberry on the back end but a bit of an alcohol burn. A bit harsh initially but easing up over time. Not complex. Probably could use some more time before drinking to help open it a bit more.
87 - Good for a Cabernet in this price range. Might buy again if I come across it and I'm looking for a reasonable cab, but I wouldn't make a special trip for it.
After about 40 minutes, the alcohol burn and harshness did relax a bit
