Nose: Key lime, mango, straw and lemongrass notes with a nice grilled honeydew melon aspect. Palate: Silky full mouthfeel with outstanding depth. Key lime pie, lemon, matchstick, mango and melon. Great fruit still and secondary notes of almond butter and jasmine now.

This is a complex and world class sauvignon blanc. It is a large scaled wine, but shines at the dinner table with raw bar, salads and grilled fish.

A solid wine presenting luxardo and dried black cherries, bit of plum, cocoa and molasses notes. Spice box, cigar and a beam of intense acidity. This is dense and opens nicely over an hour or so. Drink now, this is into its fade.

Nose: Violets, blueberries, raspberries and an herb garden element. Quite perfumed and elegant up front with precise berry and floral notes. Avoids some of the iron ore notes that other wines get. Palate: Waves of purple fruit, blue fruit, floral herbs and just a bit of oak. Gravel and graphite notes. Really has verve and energy on the palate driven by a nice beam of acidity. Finish: Nice polish without being over done. Striking balance in the finish. Indication that this is going to have a long life in the cellar.

This really is excellent. Fantastic WA podcast pick. Much more light handed winemaking than you might expect. Fruit is technically from the Oregon side of the Walla Walla line. Exceptional

Served blind by my wife, which is always a fun exercise.

Nose: Gorgeous cedar, tobacco, blackberry and cassis. Leather and a hint of brett, but not a ton. Showing red berries and spice as well at times. Palate: Reflecting the nose well, with dark cassis, berries, cedar and cigar box. Very masculine, but a mid bodied wine that has surprising depth. Finish: Cedar spice and warm cherry notes. A hug from St. Julien.

This wine is showing so well right now. I did not identify this as from an off vintage. In fact I was convinced it was the more lovely 1995 LB tasting it blind. This is fresh and cedary with great black fruit. Great point to pop a cork, but you have time.

Not sure this was a correct bottle. It was very oaky and blocky upon opening, and then kind of faded and felt tired after a short time in the decanter. Cork failure? Cooked? Not sure ....

Nose: Mint, blackberry, dark plum and some garden notes. Potting soil and leather. Palate: Attack of blackberry and mint that is reminiscent of a Heitz Martha's vineyard, followed by currant, violets and cedar. Finish: long and minty with more secondary leather and soil notes.

I believe it has surpassed the 1985 at this point, and is on an upward trajectory. Nice Phelps Insignia from the earlier days.

A really solid Dunn HM with lots of blue mountain berry fruit, blackberry, and vigorous notes of espresso, nori and pine. There is a supple red fruit note that is imparted by the (est. 15%) Oakville cab that was sourced for this wine. Approachable today and needed about 30-mins in the decanter to start to improve.

Excellent Dunn from 1986

Nose: Red cherries, luxardo cherry, leather, tobacco, clove and library book notes. Fresh dark fruit / tobacco that are classic Napa cab. Palate: Enters with a very direct dark red fruit expression, spice, sasparilla note and more cedar, graphite and tobacco. Mouthfeel still has a touch of glycerin and spherical presence. Finish: Red fruit, bit of Rutherford tannin and dusty leather notes.

An absolute classic. Rumored that this was sourced from Sullivan, BV #3 and BV #4. Paul Cassayre passed away last fall, so cheers to his good work on this project from 76-83. Some great wine was made here that is still showing beautifully.

This was a remarkable wine. Balanced, poised, and direct in the way it speaks of where it is from.

Nose: Cassis, plum, black cherry and espresso notes. Bit of thyme, licorice and cocoa notes that are typical of this site. Quite perfumed. Palate: Layered and already seamless dark cherry, blackberry and cassis fruit, with underlying tannin that is fine and pliant. Acidity is strong, building freshness and some thyme / sage notes into the mid-palate. Nice floral perfume in the back palate Finish: Outstanding length and dusty tannin, cassis notes, espresso and cocoa nibs.

There is an elegance to the 2021 that shows through in the floral and herb components, and the high quality dark tannins show that this will have a ton of longevity. Yet another Rutherford classic from Morisoli and Joel Aiken. A notch up from the 2019 in my book.

Cabernet that is thick and velvety in the mouth and packs a punch of glossy blueberry, blackberry jam, cedar and mineral notes. Very much in the style of a large scaled stags leap cabernet, but retains balance without becoming porty. Tannin is softened, but still grippy in the finish. The balance here is remarkable for the scale of the wine. Bit of tea, mint and floral notes on the back end.

From 3L this was enjoyed by all in attendance.

Easter dinner paired with lamb. This was a bruiser of a wine in its youth, and the window for opening these is just arriving.

Nose: Gorgeous graphite, truffle, cedar and blackberry with sandalwood and leather. An hour of decanting did wonders here. Palate: Generous and supple feel with berries, plum, bit of leather and lots of graphite. Just a joy to drink. Finish: good length and polish, some wood still to integrate.

Nose: Truffle, pen ink, blackberry and cassis. Opens slowly revealing a bit of smokey herb and graphite, but the nose is dark and concentrated at the moment. Palate: Entering a decent drinking window and the tannin is getting less fierce. Plum, blackberry and graphite notes with some river rock and gravel as well. Dense on the palate, but has a lot of elegance.

This was performing quite well today, and has a personality that is halfway between a Pontet Canet and d'Armailhac today. Serious yet playful.

Nose: Woodsy and spicy nose with sanded mahogany, espresso and cinnamon. Palate: Shockingly remains tannic, but that core of tannin is hanging onto beautiful notes of blackberry, chestnut, clove and spiced cherry.

A great wine from a strict vintage, that created a fantastic comparison with the 1929 beside it. Drank with EC.

Nose: Perfumed cherry compote, cigar, rose, tea, and graphite. Seductive nose that is ever changing. Palate: Soft and elegant on the palate with caramelized red currant, raspberries, caramel corn, toasted morello cherry and woody spice notes. Finish: great length still, and beautiful browned fruits, caramel and spice.

An absolutely charming wine that is a peak into how the glycerin centered structure of the 29s has ageed over the decades. Outstanding. Drank with EC below.

For my palate this was much more faded than the Beychevelle beside it, but still a really nice wine that demonstrates the pretty and seductive nature of the 1929's.
