Cru Crew Wine dinner hosted by Brad England (Mara restaurant at the Four Seasons hotel in Minneapolis, MN.): Served alongside '61 Mouton Rothschild, Lafite, LaMissioin HB and Petrus in a tasting/dininer preceeded by 19 vintages of Ramonet Montrachet. Needless to say, my palate may not be 100% up to par. Although not bought on release this bottle is the last bottle of a case and has been in my cellar for more than 50 years. Wow wine to me. Tobacco, dark fruits on the nose. It shines on the palate with layers of rich fruit, soft tannins. Very long lingering finish. Best of the flight for me without question.

The only way Latoya gets better is great older vintages. Both these bottles were looking young and fresh and were well balanced and fruity

Unbelievably this was still quite tight although the last bottle I had was drinking perfectly. Tonight the 61 outshone it by a mile

Incredible polish and poise here, with a linear profile that is just starting to give in the fruit department. This presents as a fairly serious wine, and one that will need more than a handful of years to fully come together. That said, the quality is undeniable, and likely one of my top favorites from the Left Bank (I’m usually more a Right Bank fella most of the time). It is fresh and a little haunting at the same time. An array of black, purple, and red fruit form a primary skirmish line in front of a significant wall of mineral and spice notes. Finishes with crazy exactitude.

The 2015 Latour strikes a lovely balance between old world strictness and new world expansion. Though this bottle plays coy with its fruit, it isn’t shy about letting you know instantly how well put together it is. I’m not the brightest bulb, so it’s not always great when a wine can outsmart you. But in this case, I’ll settle for letting the Latour beat me on the LSAT for now. A special thanks to good friend and CT’r Cristal2000 for carting this along on his trip to share. Truly top shelf stuff. Hold for another 5+ years minimum (10+ ideally).

Bob’s cellar. A good looking ruby red, no bricking at all. Pnp, nose is a blast of barnyard funk, red acidity and ascending dark fruit, grip, unsmoked cigar leaf and very good depth. Taste is restrained at this early stage, supremely fine, there are no jagged edges here. It’s dark fruit balanced with a perfect acidity, tannins are just there without being obtrusive, it’s calm and collected and as the air opens up you can feel the depth beckoning you over to be involved. It’s very very good, undoubtedly excellent. Am going to allow this to breathe for a while before the next glass.
Couple of hours later this has closed up. Still sublimely textured but redder acidity and flatter. Not to say still astounding quality still. Day 2, a glass with a Montecristo No2 on the terrace. Beautiful and taut, tannins are lacy and precise, red fruit is round and beautiful, ties in nicely with the cigar - brings out the forest floor and cigar box. Tremendous.

We had it in the seafood dinner in 索罟湾 with the parents from SH. It was a conclusion to all other BDXs of the same vinatge, but it was still shy event after 2-3 hours decanting. The best comments was from Haut Brion.

Nose is quite shy compared to the palate, but immediately theres a lot of cabernet flavors like blackcurrants. Amazing purity and richness on the full bodied palate. Also lead pencil and grafite. This is the style of Latour and ending in a long, long incredible finish.

My first encounter with this legend. Tasted double blind. This bottle was complex, superbly balanced and offered a lot of drinking pleasure, despite still showing young. However, this bottle in this setting didn’t have the je-ne-sais-qua-factor you would expect from a legend and that ultra-classic Latour profile, which in my head usually defines what Bordeaux is or should be. Still, this was a very good wine and has decades to go.

TN: Expressive, intense nose with lots of minerality, red and dark fruit, some minty/eucalyptus notes, hints of tobacco. Elegant, aromatically balanced, inviting. Same flavor profile with more layers of minerality on the palate, as well as some spices. Hardly any tertiary aromas. Quite complex and well-defined. Good attack and great mid-palate weight. Fine, elegant structure with a wall of fine tannins, perfectly integrated medium+ acidity, a fine/melty texture and an overall good balance.

Decanted: decanted for 2h, consumed out of the bottle 2h later. The person bringing the wine said that the wine was better without the decant.

Eyes Wide Shut - Day 1 (A quiet place): Nose: Clean and fresh raspberries and exciting cranberries, clean new oak, red and purple flowers, clean forest floor with a gentle and exciting spiced tree bark. So aromatic on the nose here with fruits and flowers while maintaining nice elegance.

Palate: Clean all around. So well polished with seamless blending of fruits, minerals, earth and clean oak. A precise strike of light graphite and minerals that lingers nicely in the mid palate and onto the finish, providing a nice savoriness. The crazy part is the build up of the energy as it finishes. Awesome gains on the finish here.. it's like it ramps up the more you keep tasting.

My first Lafleur - I mean Latour - ever and boy, it did not disappoint.

Initial nose was a bit off putting. I allowed the wine to open up in a decanter for about an hour. The wine just needed to breath. Excellent bottle. Drinking well now. This particular bottle did not have the complexity in the tertiary notes compared to Lafitte of the same year. I realize this observation could be attributed to bottle variability and I also do not have other experiences with this particular vintage.

My first time with this wine. High shoulder fill. Cork was mostly soaked through. Surprisingly dark in color. Closed on the nose for 10min then it really got going. Dark fruit, tobacco, coffee. Some sweeter red fruit came out with time. What I loved was the balance and symmetry. Incredibly round and silky. Regal and majestic are definitely appropriate descriptors. And this was so youthful yet with details and flavors that only time can produce. We drank this way too fast…90min out of a decanter. Hope to try it again and give it a few more hours.

This had darker fruit than the 1996 Haut Brion we had the same evening, and it was immediately more approachable than the other wine. However, it was slightly less powerful and faded a bit, but it was more balanced right out of the bottle.

The Blind Side - no, not football! (Chateau Simms): This amazing bottle was a special treat provided by Cristal2000 at a recent get-together at Chateau Simms. All I can say is the bottle was amazing! This bottle would turn those who love well aged Bordeaux to the dark side...even the oldest palates would succumb to this Siren's song. With a perfumed nose proudly displaying a bouquet of red and black fruit and a palate that lures you in like the pied piper with gorgeous fruit with notes of graphite, tar and shades of earth. Love this! 97+ easily!

Mid garnet in the glass. Nose of perfume, red fruit and root beer?

Palate demonstrates great balance and backing acidity. Wish I had more descriptors but it's an easy 96 for me tonight.

Preface: I am a huge Latour fan.....do not know of the prep given to this bottle.

Mid garnet in the glass. Nose was somewhat muted. There are florals and some cedar but not like in the wonderful '95 from tonight.

Palate was also muted/reduced with dark red fruit. Tastes 'old'. Lacks complexity at this stage or for this vintage?

Dark garnet in the glass. Nose of florals, cedar and black pen ink.

Palate of smooth integrated dark red/black fruit. Perfumed and solid in every way. Perfect acidity at this point. One of my favs of the night.

From a magnum donated from the Latour cellars. This was really good, outperforming the vintage. Some lead pencil and cassis smells. It had meat and earth complexity. It was glossy in the mouth, with lovely balance and smooth tannins. It finished with bright acid tang and length to burn.

Popped for my wife’s 40th. A beautiful wine with all the elements one would expect, but on this night it was outclassed and flat out beat by the 1990 Lynch Bages. Hard to believe but both my wife and I unanimously agreed. There was an element of barn that dragged this down. Sadly this was my first time having the 1990 (a favorite vintage of mine) and I don’t think I would buy another bottle for the price this fetches these days. Just not worth it.

Kleur: Diep robijnrood. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Smaak / Afdronk: 15 + Algemeen / potentieel: 10 = 91/100

Colour: Deep ruby red. Aroma / bouquet: Even after decanting, this greatness remains in a kind of hibernation. Pleasant, semi-closed bouquet with subtle tertiary notes. Taste / Aftertaste: Still seriously vital and youthful in the mouth. Pleasant acidity, mouth-filling and concentrated, but at this stage still with a mainly dormant complexity. Refined tannins. But still too youthful at this stage, especially in relation to the somewhat tertiary nose. General / potential: Potentially a greatest wine. But DEFINITELY not at this point. Decanting helps, but patience helps EVEN more! 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 11 + Taste / Aftertaste: 15 + General / potential: 10 = 91/100
