A decent Beaune 1er Cru, well-balanced and elegant. But seemed to lose its core and intensity a bit. Still very enjoyable.

This bottle seemed slightly more relaxed, velvety soft and more tertiary; mouth filling with gentle red fruit; nice texture, viscous, good acidity. Really nice Sunday afternoon wine.

Guessed this to be closer to a ‘95! Dark color and somber profile with beef broth, licorice, balsamic scents and dried black cherry that show an almost secondary profile. The wine is dense with a bit of “chunky” tannins that shows some dryness still. This is begging for food right now and quite powerful. Going nowhere in a hurry! The aromas did some elusive and slow to come into focus.

Oddly, a very newish looking cork; most youthful of the few bottles I’ve had of this: beetroot, a very savory and soupy combination of classic older burgundy, more secondary still than tertiary. Dark fruit, boeuf bourgignon, carmelized onion. Fullish, tasting partner was guessing decades younger. I’d have preferred more tertiary, autumnal qualities. 92+

Cork soaked through but came out in one piece. Dusty red berries with good mouthfeel, and while it's smooth and in balance it lacks complexity and depth.

Fine Wines SG - The World of Pinot Noir: Burgundy vs the World (Fine Wines SG): A nose of strawberry and lemon flowers. Still a clear floral on palate, but it seems like the fruits were more green, like sour cherries. While there’s this slight difference between nose and palate, it’s still rather simple

Enoteca tasting. Coravin 1st sample from Ex-cellar bottle. Maison bottle - white capsule.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Very closed initially. Needed about 30mins of air time in glass to open up.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of ripe red cherries, dark red plums, warm earth, bits of black cherries and spice and ripe stems. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (!3%), soft integrated medium tannins, medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet black cherries, dark red plums, sour red cherries, light sweet spices. Soft plushy, very pleasing mouth-feel. Long lingering finish.
Very good quality. Just lacking some oomph and gravitas to bring it to the next level. Maybe this will come with more age? Certainly still very fresh and will last a long time. Long life for these 2005s.

A pretty generic wine with a good combo of fruit and oak, but not much substance beyond that. Well-balanced, light and refreshing. Even though this will start showing more in a year, I don't see any crazy potential. The table guessed this to be Burgundy, but we all agreed that it wasn't exactly a diamond in the rough.

HDH auction at Spiaggia (ft. Maison Leroy); 9/13/2018-9/15/2018 (Chicago, IL): A fairly dense and powerful wine, with some good earth aromas, and a generous helping of black fruit. This is still incredibly backward, with lots of tannins that make this seem a bit chewy. Shows the most rustic of the wines (as expected?).

Good color and plenty of red fruit, but a little tart and woody and had a bit of an acidic bite. Might get more generous with time. Not bad for the price.

Raspberries, mushrooms, minerals, and a bit of orange (or citrus) on the nose. Medium-high acidity and medium+ tannins. A bit green and herbal on the palate. Good finish. Decent wine, but not very complex nor interesting.

Leroy Tasting (Sunfish Cellars, St. Paul, MN): Medium red color, bricked. Tasting pour. This has a deeper nose, funk, iodine, cherry, mineral. The palate is medium bodied, soil, mineral, cherry, a little thin mid palate. Very nice.

Light garnet color. Nose offers up small red fruits, a hint of spice. On palate easy drinking, light and crisp. Not earth shattering but good quaffed.

2013 Wine Media Guild dinner (SD26, NYC): Must and varnish obscure the aromatics. Florals, cinnamon, and maraschino cherry are lurking, but this is rather biting--I'm not sure if that's alcohol or exaggerated acidity. Given the vintage/terroir/pedigree, I suspect this is either not a correct bottle or needs more time in the cellar, but I'd rate it about an 86 for current drinking.
