2009 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Russian River Valleymore |
2/8/2011 - Dale451 wrote: 88 pointsone of the better Lorings from the 09 vintage so far. more of the rich RRV flavor that I enjoy and less of the hot grapey flavor that can come through on some of these wines. rich and pleasant mouthfeel and an enjoyable cocktail wine. |

1/19/2011 - Dale451 wrote: NRvery dark, with great spice on the nose. Much more youthful in appearance and taste than expected for a 40 year old botle of wine. I did not get any of the excrement that the other two did and everyone at the table really enjoyed this. And as surprising, it lasted for several hours with falling off too much. great floral and red fruits, with spice. very nice surprise. this is the first of 12 '71's this year to celebrate and this one will be tough to top. |

7/12/2010 - Dale451 wrote: 93 pointsTwo completely different wines. Day 1 - lush, full bodied and full of grapefruit. Good, but in the 90 ish range. I thought that it was a little cloying/too much of everything. Excellent wine, but just 120% of everything. 1/2 bottle left over, vacu-vinned and put into the fridge. tried again 3 nights later and wow, much, much better to me. The over the topness had evened out and this was a wonderful bottle of wine, with great acidity and freshness. hopefully this means that this will do well with a couple of years of age on it. I will probably try another at the end of the summer and see where it is then. |

2005 Celani Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon ArdoreOak Knoll District more |
10/22/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 93 pointshad next to a 2005 Buccella. The Ardore was much tighter, with a very tight grip, firm tannins, but loads of fresh red fruits on the palate. Wonderful concentration and a much better wine than anticipated. The Buccella was more ready to drink and lush, today, but with food, and with a few years in bottle, the Ardore is a very nice bottle of wine. |

10/13/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 93 pointsupon opening, very rich and luscious, with great dark fruits. Good long finish with pretty significant tannins (obviously). Within one hour, though, this had pretty much shut down and the fruit was gone, hidden behind strong tannins. Finished the next night, and had opened back up some, but not all the way. more black fruit and nice length on the finish. A very good wine but will not touch the next bottle for several years. |

8/31/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 91 pointsat first pop and pour/taste, great fruit, but after letting sit open for an hour and a half or so, fruit seemed a bit muted. Maybe this is in a bit of shutdown, although others do not seem to think so. Well structured, bit of funk that I enjoy, although I would be curious to know the mix, as the Syrah seems to be higher and the Grenache lower than in some other vintages of this wine. classic Pegau wine and will try again in a few years. |

2000 A. et P. de Villaine Mercurey Les MontotsPinot Noir more |
8/24/2009 - Dale451 wrote: NRno score given as this wine continues to confuse me. There is a hint of something wrong, like it is off or spoiled or something, which is there sometimes and sometimes not. It is a good funk and a bad funk at the same time. Good flavor and the tannins are pretty much fully integrated, as this is smooth to the taste, but again, the funk is dominant, and I just can't figure out if I really like it or don't like it at all. definitely one to try and see for your self. |

8/17/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 90 pointsThis had a very nice nose, with an earthy, dirty fruit combo that was very attractive. Nice structure, with the fruit not quite up to the nose. Classic bordeaux minerality. Good bottle of wine but not worth the price tag for being the second wine of Cheval Blanc. |

1998 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountainmore |
8/8/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 91 points89-91 overall. Great, earthy, loamy nose. Tannins were still very evident with bracing acidity. Fruit was a little faded (?) or muted. Well made wine and very enjoyable with food, but not sure if the fruit will outlast the tannins. |

2004 Rudd Oakville Estate Proprietary RedRed Bordeaux Blend more |
6/15/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 92 pointsMuch better than 6 months ago. Last time was completely flat, with oak the predominate flavor. This time, after several hours in the decanter, dark chocolate and rich black fruits were coming through. Oak and tannins are subsiding a bit and then was a very nice bottle of wine. I look forward to next year and trying another. |

5/11/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 92 pointsVery bright and acidic, almost more along the lines of a Chablis. Did not seem 15 years old at all. Question will be weather the fruit will live long enough to survive the acidity taming down. Bright minerality and citrus on the palate. Great food wine. |

1/5/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 88 pointsThis was, unfortunately, tired and tiring fast. Average nose and a relatively thin, short finish leads to an average bottle of wine. Obviously well made, but I have had other vintages that have just sang and this just wasn't that bottle. |

1/5/2009 - Dale451 wrote: 88 pointsinteresting nose, with baked spices as the predominant smell, with some almost leathery components as well. great translucent red color, with pretty heavy sediment in the bottom. Taste was light to medium bodied, with again, red fruits, spice and a hint of leather on the palate. Much better during the first hour, and overall, a very nice 27+ year old bottle of burgundy. |

2003 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del DueroTempranillo Blend, Tempranillo more |
12/7/2008 - Dale451 wrote: 92 pointsVery smooth, with the dark, dark fruits being fully integrated with the tannins, which have smoothed out over the past year. Oak is still very much present, as the vanillin component is rather strong, but in a pleasant way, not too over the top. Dark fruit, dark chocolate and coffee flavors expand on the palate. Finish is 30+ seconds. A very nice bottle of wine and a find Ribera del Duero. But, in contrast to others, I am not sure that this will last for another 10 years. The fruit is so rich that I would not expect this wine to give as much pleasure when the fruit starts to fade. But, as this was my last bottle, I don't have to worry about being disappointed. |

12/1/2008 - Dale451 wrote: 94 pointsQuite simply the best port that I have ever had. There were discussions amongst the others of this still being a baby and needing 10 more years to get into its drinking window, but, this just great. bright powerful nose. yes, the alcohol was there, but that is part of port. For the first time, for me, the alcohol and the fruit and the wine all came together and really was a great experience. |
