Probably first sparkler from Loire. Seemed off dry to me despite the brut classification. Fruit salad.

Fruity delish from the budding wine scene of the French Concession, Shanghai PRC.
Medium pronounce, nose of current, raspberry, blackberry. A young wine ready for drinking.
A palate dry, medium to medium plus acidity, medium plus tannins, medium plus alcohol, medium body. Nice balance, which I can’t always fine with the GSM. Short length with minimum complexity. Drink now and enjoy.

Entry level from the Loire tasted in Shanghai French Concession, where the wine scene really seems to be taking off.
Nose of flower blossom, citrus and grapefruit. Palate of white pepper. Ideal oak treatment (not overdone).
Drink now.

Very subtle and elegant but this does not undermine the pronounced palate. All the flavors I need but nothing over the top. Honey, grapefruit, creamy lemon, a kiss of oak and minerality. Burgundian.
Palate med+, med alc, perfectly balanced.
Only med finish is a little lacking. Linear and not yet evolved. Drink now or cellar for a few years for added complexity.

First time tasting this somewhat new denomination. Nose of deep earth, smoke, dark brambly fruit. Palate consists of smooth, ripe tannins. Dark fruit. Very Spanish. Will definitely seek this out.

Decanted 1+ hours and still very closed. The notes below are from slow oxidizing in glass over night, which resulted in a lovely, supple wine. Based on my results I would recommend decanting 3-4 hours. This wine is more closed and restrained than the 2005.
Blackberry, oak, plum, you can smell the age (una good way): earth, saddle leather, wilted flowers
Palate is black currant, blackberry. Dry, med+ to high acidity, medium dusty tannins integrating nicely, full body, med+ to long finish.

Ruby / garnet in the glass
Took 6 hours and 3 nights to open (decanter the first night and put away after 3 hours of no progress). Shocker because last year I don’t recall this being a challenge ( that said I do think our results are more in keeping with other CT results).

Ultimately, we found blackberry, earth, oak and cedar and graphite but we had to dig deep. Very dry. Med+ to high acidity. Long finish.

Still on the journey. Restrained to the point it is locked away. Years from peaking I think.

OMG pure heaven. There is no doubt that this wine isn’t still alive and kicking. Drinking beautifully now.
Medium Ruby.
Leather, balsamic earth, prune, blackberry, smoke. You can smell the age.
Totally integrated tannins yet still alive with an edge. Silky smooth on the palate with long sweet finish.
Drink now for perfection.

Preconceived notions got me again as I was totally unprepared for the elegance here. I think I was expected a bold Shiraz style but I was struck by the nuanced restraint which I don’t encounter in the new world.
Medium ruby in glass, light enough to clearly see the stem.
Nose of plum, black pepper, earth, leather, Smokey, oak, vanilla.
Medium body in a very refreshing way. Dry. Med acidity. Drink now or cellar. This is a wine you can enjoy.

Wow. Terrific restaurant buy. Opened restrained on the nose but effusive on the palate and 30 min of air dramatically improved the nose.
Nose of Floral, Pear, melon, lemon zest, buttered toast. Palate followed suit with a vibrancy and freshness. Great balance.
Dry, medium to medium+ acidity, med alcohol, medium finish (bit of disappointing there).
Drink now or cellar for a couple of years.

Such a vibrant, powerful young wine, 16 years young. I plan to save the next bottle for a minimum of five years.

Exuberant nose of shoe polish, black cherry, leather, vanilla, earth. My Italian table mate said it reminded him of the Italian countryside (he said Italian shrubs).

Palate very dry, high acidity, high coarse tannins with years left in them, high alcohol (15%), full body, long finish.

Drink now or cellar for greater enjoyment on the future.

The veritable iron fist in a velvet glove. Blackberry, plum and vanilla. Very primary driven. Only slightest of garnet brick although plenty of sediment. Medium + tannins, high acidity, long finish. Nicely balanced despite 15% alcohol.
Drink now (we did 3 hour decant) or cellar for more integrated affair. Or do both, as I hope to do one day!

Not in the drinking window that 2017 is, this wine wine could be drink now or held for more integration. Very promising for an entry level. Linear and more representative of the Paso blend. Like the 2017, just amazing balance here considering 15.5% alcohol.

L’Aventure’s entry level Paso Robles blend of Syrah, Cab and Petit Verdot. Totally approachable in prime drinking window. Spectacular acidity from the extreme diurnal of Paso totally balancing the high alcohol. Med + finish makes for a very good wine. Drink now and hold the more robust estate wines.

2012 Lokoya Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder

more

3/23/2024 - El_Dougo Likes this wine: 94 points

First time tasting this famous wine and I guess good things come to those who wait. What a wine!

Night 1: Decanted 1 hour and paired with steak.
Deep, deep ruby at the core and yet so vibrant at the edge.
Fruit forward, just as the sommelier promised (compared to Lokoya’s more mineral-oriented Howell Mountain cuvée).
Raspberry, blackberry, black cherry… evolved to plum. Hard to put your finger on it. Profoundly deep wine.
Oak, toast, charred wood, leather…
High acidity, high alcohol, ripe tannins slowly integrating but plenty of time.
Two min long finish. One of the longest I’ve experienced.
Drink now or continue to cellar for years.

Night 5 (wine under pump): wine almost as fresh as night one.

2020 Domaine Georges Vernay Condrieu Coteau de Vernon

Viognier more

3/23/2024 - El_Dougo Likes this wine: 92 points

This is a WOW wine. Love the Vernay’s Cote Rotie and I suppose I’ve tasted some of the Viognier in them as well, but this bottle was a wonderful experience.

Honeysuckle, blossom, apricot, Nectar, lychee on the nose, just opening up more and more as the evening wore on.
Orange creamsicle on the palate. None of the oiliness them sometimes get in the way.
Med+ acidity, med body, med+ finish. Paired with angel hair pasta & caviar and Alaskan kong crab. Will definitely search this out again.
