6/3/2019 - acb Likes this wine: 94 pointsFirst thing you notice is the colour and the viscosity as you pour it, it looks like bulls blood. It’s not as much of a bruiser as that pour threatened though, with a fruity nose, and good flavours of summer berries, with good earthy undertones too. Quite a nuanced wine. Good length. |

2010 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Rangen de Thann Clos St. UrbainAlsace Grand Cru more |
11/10/2018 - acb Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery enjoyable. Lovely golden colour in the glass. A nose that draws you in, lots of honeyed yellow fruits. Good balance in the mouth, with some acidity and minerality to balance the sweet roasted pineapple flavours that come through. Served at a casual lunch with a poached salmon salad, and everyone around the table loved this. |

5/22/2018 - acb Likes this wine: 94 pointsSuperb. Wine is pale yellow/gold, with a very nice light, fruity nose and a hint of vanilla. The wine really fills the mouth with taste, white fruits, minerality, good balance of acidity. Really everything you would want from a Chardonnay. Drinking really well at the moment, but opens up so nicely in the glass, its going to keep improving. |

1989 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut CollectionChampagne Blend more |
2/17/2018 - acb Likes this wine: 92 pointsThis is seriously funky and will divide opinion massively. It is the oldest Champagne i have had nearly 30 years old and is apparently now in its 'second life'. Interesting make up of 47% PN, 29% C and 24% Meunier. The juice only has the hint of bubbles left, but there are still some to add some zing in the mouth. Quite a deep golden colour in the glass, with a wonderful, complex, multilayered nose of cooked apples, and quite earthy, with a hint of honey and spice. Deep flavours of apple and pear and even marmalade in there. Very long finish. Really enjoyed it as a case study in old champagne, but prefer regular Krug to drink tbh |

1/29/2018 - acb wrote: 96 pointsI bought this on release at a very modest price, and i must admit i was tempted to hit a bid when i saw how much it was now selling for. My goodness im glad i didn't, this is a real crowdpleaser. Very pale in the glass, not much colour too it at all, but put your nose in the glass, and immediately big aromas of toffee popcorn and rich fruit. On the palate the wine is very full, quite thick and unctuous, and i can see this not being to everyones taste, but my table lapped it up. Great depth of flavour, good length, and plenty of acidity at the end to cut through the richness. Big and bold and a real pleasant surprise |

2007 Torbreck The FactorBarossa Valley Shiraz, Syrah more |
2/11/2017 - acb Likes this wine: 92 pointsReally nice Barossa Shiraz. Thick, purple colour in the glass, almost black. Fruity nose without much complexity, but a delicious wine to drink. Lots of cassis and dark cherry, with some sweetness and spice in the follow through. Very smooth feel in the mouth, and very good length. Incredible amounts of sediment in the bottle, will benefit from a careful decant. |

2010 Domaine Ostertag Pinot Gris Muenchberg A360PAlsace Grand Cru more |
1/7/2017 - acb Likes this wine: 94 pointsGorgeous wine. Appealing straw gold color in the glass, with a clear viscosity on the swirl. Pleasing aromas of caremalized bananas and orange/peach. Gorgeous texture in the mouth, with plenty of acidity to balance the slightly sticky texture and caremalized fruits. Very pleasing aftertaste. Wine glass smells delicious a good 15 minutes after finishing. Not a wine region i know particularly well, but this is a cracker |

8/22/2016 - acb Likes this wine: 94 pointsReally enjoyable wine. Pale straw colour, very pale. Good sharpness on the nose, very fresh, with green apples and pear, lots of minerality, very sharp and precise. Good length, really pleasant aftertaste, I'm looking forward to another bottle of this. |

2009 Marc Sorrel Hermitage Blanc Les RocoulesWhite Rhone Blend more |
6/6/2016 - acb Likes this wine: 94 pointsFrom vines of over 60 years of age, the Rocoules Blanc is made up of 85% Marsanne and 15% Roussanne, aged for 18 months in old wood. Has a thick glycerol type appearance in the glass, like a desert wine, with serious depth. Nice nose of poached pears and orange marmalade. Good texture on the palate, viscous, lovely deep flavours of orange and quince and ginger, with good acidity. Very long finish. |

2005 Nicolas Potel Grands-EchezeauxGrands-Echezeaux Grand Cru Pinot Noir more |
5/6/2016 - acb Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis is ok, but unfortunately I find it a bit boring. It's not very powerful, and I'm not picking up much from the nose at all. The taste is pleasant enough, all cherry and tea. The finish does have reasonable length I guess, but not a wow wine at all. I have had 3 bottles now over the past year and they have all been the same sadly |

5/4/2016 - acb wrote: 94 pointsOh this was a wonderful surprise. I checked the Parker score, and it was a woeful 77 the last time he reviewed it, admittedly in 1993, its got better since then! Still a deep ruby colour, with a modest amount of fading around the edges. A lovely mature nose of leather and mushrooms and farm, but gets better in the mouth, with lots of lovely fruit, hits all the high notes, and good length, with the tannins and acidity all melted into one delicate wine. |

3/1/2016 - acb Likes this wine: 96 pointsThis is a follow up from my tasting note from nearly two years ago. I have recently had a few more bottles and they have improved, and are consistently excellent. This is now rich, powerful, brooding with superb mineralogy and length. top class. |

2011 Benjamin Leroux Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-GainChardonnay more |
1/21/2016 - acb Likes this wine: 92 pointsDelicious premier cru Puligny. Pale yellow in the glass, fresh and crystal clear nose of pear and ripe apple, and a hint of new oak. Quite a few layers of flavour from ripe fruit, to green apples, with a characteristic steely mineralogy coming through, with nice acidity, good balance, and really quite a long finish. Nice one Ben! |

11/24/2015 - acb Likes this wine: 92 pointsReally pleasantly surprised by this delicious wine. Its a really dark, brooding looking wine, with a fresh nose of blackcurrants and cherries. Deep, swirling texture and flavours of spice and dark fruits and leather. Really well balanced and textured. Good length. Recommended |

10/20/2015 - acb wrote: 96 pointsMy goodness i enjoyed this. Disclaimer, I've not had many vintages of Haut Brion. I thouroughly enjoyed this. Quite a dark crimson, but fading already around the edges. A delicious smoky, warm, plumy nose. Beautiful texture in the mouth, gentle flavours of fruit and leather and tobacco, with good balance and a long finish. This is drinking beautifully right now, and i have 11 bottles to go, yay! |

2007 Torbreck Mataro The PictBarossa Valley more |
6/19/2015 - acb Likes this wine: 92 pointsUnusual wine this, worth trying. Its made from 100% Mataro (called Mourvedre in the Rhone) from some very old vines. Deep ruby in the glass, with an intriguing nose of cassis and leather and spices. On the palate it really hits some high notes early on, with lots of adiditiy and tannins, then the fruit coming through to deliver a long, sweet, finish. A really fun bottle to share with friends, a bit different. |

2008 Cayuse Syrah En Cerise VineyardWalla Walla Valley more |
12/8/2014 - acb Likes this wine: 95 pointsGood grief, this is unusual (not having tried any Cayuse wine before). A dark ruby red in the glass, and a really funky, sweet, aromatic nose that really invites you in to find out what the hell is in the glass. The wine is full of flavour, loads of ripe fruit, with perfectly balanced acidity and tannins, really well put together, with a long decadent finish. This really is a bit of a star, and i am going to give a bottle to my friends (we don't come across this in Europe very often). Its so unusual i think i would score it 100 when in the mood, and 90 when not. |

1978 Joseph Drouhin Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaux MontsPinot Noir more |
11/22/2014 - acb wrote: 96 pointsMaddening! I bought three bottles of this, from the legendary 1978 vintage, that had been released from the Drouhin family collection in July 2014. Two of the bottles had gone, totally undrinkable, but luckily the third one was amazing. I have not had old Burgundy before, and clearly you have to be very careful buying it. Lovely ruby colour, with some slight bricking around the edges. Quite a sweet, fruity nose i thought given the age, and plenty of fresh summer fruits on the initial taste, which then transforms into an incredible aftertaste, which goes on for 10 minutes or more, and is basically a taste of Autumn, forest floor, truffles. Really complex, eye opening. That said, i think i would prefer to approach my Burgundy younger when its more reliable! |

2008 Jean-Philippe Fichet Meursault Le TessonChardonnay more |
9/29/2014 - acb wrote: 92 pointsVery good value wine, not a premier cru but much better than many of those by ordinary producers. Pale straw colours in the glass, with quite a citrusy nose, quite sharp, but then that softens not the palate with plenty of oak and butter and softer fruit flavours. Good long aftertaste and nice acidity. Good effort this one |

2009 Montirius Gigondas ConfidentielRed Rhone Blend more |
6/8/2014 - acb Likes this wine: 95 pointsThis is why I love wine! This is the first bottle of Gigondas I have ever had, and it is big and bold and 80per cent Grenache, 20per cent Mourvèdre. I wasn't expecting much, I mean heck, I paid £16 for this bottle, but I thought it was delicious. It's a deep dark ruby in the glass, with a powerful, friuity nose that really invites you in. Wonderful cherry and raspberry and even lavender on the palate, with good mine railing, and very very we'll balanced tannins. This is fantastic |

2007 Domaine Patrick Javillier Corton-CharlemagneCorton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay more |
6/7/2014 - acb Likes this wine: 91 pointsQuite a pale green-gold in colour, with quite a full and fruity nose with plenty of citrus. On the palate quite a good concentration of peach and apple, with bags of acidity and minerality, perhaps too much for some. I preferred my bottle on the second night, and it tasted much better being served around 18 degrees, on the first night i made the schoolboy error of leaving in the fridge too long. I thought this was ok, not amazing, to be honest hoping for a bit more at this price level. Long finish though, as its still going as i type. |

2/8/2014 - acb Likes this wine: 100 pointsEpic. This is always a wine that i like to serve to friends who think they know their wine, and they are invariably blown away. An excellent vintage, with a pale golden colour, and a delicate marzipan nose and quite a thick glycerin texture. On the palate its fruity in a very exotic way, honeysuckle, papaya and pear. And then theres the finish, oh my goodness, its still going as i write this. Taking 6 bottles now, saving 6 bottles for 20 years time. 3 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

2/1/2014 - acb Likes this wine: 92 pointsReally liked this. Really dark Ruby/Crimson in the glass, it looks serious! Its more subtle than it looks though, very well balanced combination of fruit and tannin and spice. Nothing amazing granted, but really solid and enjoyable. Drinking perfectly now, but i think will improve over next 5 years or so. |

10/30/2013 - acb Likes this wine: 94 pointsBeautifully well balanced wine. I approached this wine with low expectations having seen some negative recent reviews by the pros but really did enjoy this. Really ripe, luscious fruits, very gentle tannins, so well put together and just wonderful to drink |
