Popped and poured. Hoping for an easy-drinking table wine with a bit of Bordeaux typicity, but this didn't deliver. Oaky, cloying, unenjoyable – tasted like a bad WA red blend from the under $15 shelf. Won't buy again. At least it was cheap!

Pretty solid. Not as powerfully oaked as some other recent Fidelitas I've had, but not terribly complex either.

1.5-2hr decant. Palate: medium-low acidity, heavy French oak, red fruit, spice cake, coffee/mocha. Very sweet and rich but still balanced (even with the lower acid). Weirdly muted on the nose. Pretty dang good for $35, honestly.

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

1 hr. decant. A nice, if unsophisticated, Pauillac. Nose of cedar, leather, dark fruit. Palate follows suit – full bodied, medium acidity, a bit one-note and finishes quickly. Nice fruit but lacking the savory complexity of a higher-end BDX, and at this price, likely would not buy again.

Quick decant. NYE 2019. A bit fuzzy in my New Years Day memory but this was nice, elegant BDX with more nuance and less power/drive than the Pauillacs and Saint Juliens I've had.

2005 Château Duhart-Milon

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend more

12/19/2019 - alexfrank Likes this wine: 91 points

90 minute decant. Tight and closed initially. After decant, classic Pauillac albeit maybe a bit lacking in power and concentration? Earth, leather, dark fruit, graphite/pencil, maybe a bit of smoked meat in there? Not super complex but hits the Pauillac notes. Solid.

90ish minute decant. First BDX of 2020! Still a little sick so not a lot to get on the nose but this is a nice, crisp, classic LB. Exactly what I was hoping for. Black cherry, currant, cedar, graphite. Brilliant acidity and an almost honeyed finish.

I was sworn into the Washington State Bar Association yesterday, so my wife and I pulled this out to celebrate. Decanted for a little over two hours and enjoyed for another two, this wine was just beautiful. On the nose, black cherry and blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco and black olive were absolutely pouring out. One of the most ebullient, expressive noses on a wine I've ever enjoyed.

On the palate, it was rich, concentrated and mouth-fillingly (is that a word?) lush. Following from the nose on the palate were the above-mentioned dark fruits, as well as a hint of blueberry and honey on the front end, as well as savory elements such as more cedar and a bit of leather. Beautiful, long-lasting finish. Based on my admittedly limited experience with high-end Bordeaux, I would have guessed that, based on this wine's richness and concentration, it was from Pauillac, not St. Julien. "Dialed in" and "majestic" were my final thoughts. What a fantastic bottle of wine.

90 min decant. Not as good as the last Coudalet – too young? Tasted very grapey in that indistinct CdR way. Disappointing.

45 minute decant. Deep red/purple color, opaque. Nose: not giving anything away initially. Palate: big, lush fruit, black cherry, cocoa, coffee, leather. Not an oak bomb + nice acidity, aside from the powerful fruit it's pretty restrained. Best aMaurice i've ever had.

12/2/2019 - alexfrank Likes this wine: 88 points

1 hour decant. Nose: Oak, dark fruit, not super expressive. Palate: nice dark fruit + graphite indicative of the Medoc but less concentrated than in a better vintage. Nice acidity, oak less prominent than on the nose. If I could find for cheaper would be nice to have around but not great QPR at this price (believe I paid $53).

90 minute decant. Very opaque purple-red. Low acidity, high alcohol, not a ton of depth. Palate: oak, blueberry, coffee/mocha, more oak. Not my style. Rating reflects my enjoyment, not the objective quality of the wine – certainly well-made for its style, just not in my wheelhouse.

From magnum. 2 hr decant. Family Christmas dinner. Not much of a note but just a really nice, fragrant, solid Pontet Canet. Maybe not as complex or powerful as the 2001 but I was doing more drinking than thinking on this one.

45 minute decant. Nice garnet red. Nose: dark cherry, coffee/mocha, leather. Palate: a nice savory element to go with the trademark Médoc dark fruits (black cherry, plum) – soy sauce, more leather, smoke/char, coffee, menthol/mint. Saw a TN mentioning caramel and i can see it. Medium body, medium finish. Quite nice!

Enjoyed at Red Cow for my 35th birthday. 1(?) hour decant. Showing nothing for the first 30-45 minutes but came alive after that. Lush, smooth tannins and soft fruit, lower acid, really showed up by the last couple glasses. Looser and more unbuttoned than a lot of clarets I've had. Prefer the more classic LB style in comparison, but this was really nice.

2 hour decant. Nose: Classic Left Bank fruit, cedar, pencil shavings. Palate: Oh yes. This is what I was hoping for. Black cherry, cassis, anise, black pepper petrol/salinity on the mid-palate through the finish, which goes on for quite a bit. Crisp, balanced acidity. Like the ‘01 but more concentrated, but still crisp and light on its feet. Outstanding.
