1st of 12, not decanted - deepish, bright garnet, merest trace of rim development; primary nose, cassis and dark cherry fruit with touch of tobacco and earth, pure; medium bodied, decent length, grip, quality and purity of fruit, but not very expressive and a touch dilute, classy though, barely ready on this showing and I suspect I'll be upping the marking in future. Today, very good indeed (17/20).
15 notes on this site have been 94 plus and deservedly so. My 9th bottle of this wine and it is certainly a pointe (apologies for the lack of an accent on my keyboard). Had a bitter edge before 2010, drinking well from 2012 except for one slightly musty bottle last year. Great sweet cherry nose, complexity, lovely flavour and balance and huge length.
Decanted. Very good wine. Still very dark in colour. Just a tinge of brick on the cherry plum robe. Typical BDX nose, lots of earth, graphite, coffee, light plum and dark cherry fruit. Fresh and tasty, loads of acidity, mild tannins and juicy black plum and berry fruit, long ripe and well balanced.
One corked and one perfect, one more left from a case bought on release. These have served me very well, 2001 beinge perfect to drink now. Slight ageing on the rim. Mature nose of tobacco, coffee, some rosemary and green pepper on top. Medium body with very good balance. Fresh acidity and tannins are quite modest but adequate for food. Great with a classic beuf bearnaise!
