This Steltzner is becoming one of my favs in the Myriad line up of wines. Only let it breath about 45 mins. Ran through a Aervana airator and this wine was open for business. Delicious.

I have a soft spot for Nerello Mascalese, which I think is like a really successful mix of Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo. However, in this wine, it's more Burgundy than Barolo, which is totally okay – but I miss some of the roses, tar, and the deliciously sharp tannins. Volcanic-soil with red fruit and tart cherries. Delicious acidity and a relatively long, strawberry finish.

No detailed notes but this was delish. Great bouquet, mainly fruits at first with ripe cherry, and strawberry as well as a great rose perfume. After a few minutes a bit of mushroom and earth/autumn leaves began to poke through too.

Palate was bright and juicy, less fruity and more flinty and umami with the earthy tones coming through more. Finish was medium, flavour concentration relatively high.

Still young and quite primary, but think a couple years in the cellar will bring out the savoury tones more, if that is your thing. Went very well with grilled salmon at this stage of life. Good value for 30 CAD, would buy again. Think it is hard to find a better Pinot Noir in this price category.

Petrichor and iodine/seaweed on the nose.

Cherry, plums, tobacco, and vanilla. Smooth and discreet tannins, slightly sweet on the med-length finish.

Ready to drink now.

Yum!

Very perfume driven nose, somewhat in an odd place though, the fruit seemed riper than expected. Probably needs several more years at minimum.

At age 14, this still needs a good long decant or a few more years in the cellar. It wasn't really starting to show its best until 3+hours into being opened, at which point it was almost gone. Prior to that point, it was brooding and just not giving a lot of joy.

Quite oaky. Nice creamy body if a little acid deficient. Will hold other two bottles.

Big smoky thing that it is. Didn't realize I had pulled a 2015! Going strong right now.

Bright acidity, minerality driven, good umami on the finish.

Last bottle of a great case and this bottle was mid neck fill perfect condition. Decanted for one hour and frankly it could have done with a day decant. Previous notes hold here as to the quality of the wine, it's a total overperforming 1983 and one if not the best Bordeaux has to offer in that vintage imho. Still so young and coming back to what I left behind in bottle (sediment etc) 2 days later it was still holding up really well and had not oxidised. Based on perfect stock this wine still has 20 years in the tank alas this was my very last, I would be seeking those out again if I saw them...

Very good, but something unresolved. Forward red fruit , but in a mineral, tart way as opposed to a jammy way. Oak doesn’t over ride the acidity, but also doesn’t provide they volnay velvet. The impression is more of a Vosne spice but without the blue fruits and fireworks.. Finish medium to long. Suggest 2026 for next bottle.

The bottle was decanted after initial taste and left an hour’s repose. Pan roast chicken with aromatic, tarragon jus.

On opening and for the first 2 hours in bottle, this doesn't offer much, but it turns into a nice match for a steak after that time. Doubt it will improve from here as tannins nearly resolved and fruit and acidity while still present are not prominent, but should still be nice to drink for another year or so.

I had half of the bottle. Drank over one night.

Lemon and lime dominate the nose, there’s a little undertone of yeasty bread. Opens really fresh and zingy on the palate, there’s crunchy green apple and lime juice. Really pure flavours. Lots of zingy acidity. Great depth all the way through the palate - finishes with a lovely lemon curd flavour. Really liked this.

Double decanted for 4 hours prior to serving. fair bit of sediment to get rid off. It was totally in the zone after that time with lovely acidity but also enough sweetness to make it a rather mellow drink without a hard edge and plenty of character olive tapenade and beef blood. No bret here a really succulent pure bottle that felt on a gentle decline but certainly still in the late prime time drinking window. Probably a vintage to be opening up now and over the next 10 years based on this bottle.

Big, powerful nose with aromas of lemon tart and wholemeal toast. Creamy textured and quite rich on the palate, but enough acidity to keep it well balanced. Long and layered, there’s popcorn, more lemon and a lingering butterscotch flavour on the finish. These are lovely. Shame that was my last one.

Amazing how well a screwcap can allow chardonnay to develop in the bottle without losing freshness. 10 years old but still vibrant stone fruits, complemented by a lovely mealiness and clean finish. Will continue to last.

From a perfect looking bottle with good neck fill. On initial opening a slight pshhh and cork came out very easy. Clearly evolved in terms of colour remniscent of copper. On the nose initially very oxidative, sherry notes made us think it's probably a touch past. Interestingly it just needed some aeration, it continued to freshen up with air and sweeten up dramatically and in the end when we were on the last glass it was totally firing away. I kept a small pour for an hour later and it was just on the way up. Damn, should have opened a while before and enjoyed the trhill ride, now we just got that tease of it's full potential that finished it's journey with toffee, roasted hazelnuts, beurre blanc and good verve.

After reading the prior reviews, I thought for sure that enough time had passed for this wine to behave like a good high-end wine; a little tight at first, opening to the nose with some spirited swirling in the glass, and over the next couple of hours delivering multi-faceted goodness with each sip. Unfortunately that was not the case.

I should have heeded the suggestion to decant 3 hours prior, from a 2021 review. I did not. As a result, when opened the nose was tight and unyielding. No amount of swirling, however energetic, could force more than a slight hint of the goodness within to reach my olfactory receptors. In the mouth you could tell that great things were there, bubbling just below the surface, but they were scarcely revealed. By the end of the night there were SLIGHT hints of the treasures entombed in the bottle
A full day later, the +/- 1 glass that was left in the bottle was more generous to nose and palate, but still quite restrained. What I got was excellent, poetry in a bottle. I could go on, but you get the picture.
I have one bottle left, which I am going to completely forget about for at least 5 more years.

This wine tends to vary from from year to year.

On the nose the 2022 is aromatic with white flowers and a touch of salinity.

The palate is rather rich - more of the flowers and salinity, but with some alcohol heat and, for my palate, somewhat short on acidity. The finish isn't as crisp as in some other vintages, and just a touch cloying.

For me this is not one of the best vintages of this wine, and probably not a repeat buy at the ~US$19.5 I paid.

This isn't just primary, it feels like drinking a barrel sample with the structure dominating entirely. That said, I love the raw material here - it's a lean wine in a way that feels like a throwback to old school Northern Rhônes from the 80s and 90s that weren't overly ripe and would show a bit of green olive or similar greenness, rather than just bigger red/black fruit. There's a similar quality to the fruit here with a lightly green tinge that adds freshness, and the stems are quite noticeable here on the nose. Plenty of tannic grip and acidity too, this feels like a wine built for the long haul but the overall balance here is excellent and I'm excited to see what this wine develops into with time.

The maker is a real gentleman and very committed to expressing the special qualities of various parcels of Shiraz fruit in the Barossa Valley. There is going to be a question of style here in terms of how you enjoy the wine but objectively it is really impossible not to see this wine as being 'Outstanding'.

I think what impresses me most is that the wine is quintessential Moppa from the heart of darkness on the Barossa valley floor, from a powerful vintage and yet there is surprising lightness to this wine. It is the opposite in mouthfeel and presence to the usual Barossa. That means that even those who struggle with the Barossa style (as I sometimes do), will probably find themselves pleasantly surprised that this does not run over their palate like a schwere panzer-abteilung at Prokhorovka in July 1943.

Of course, there is the hit of ripe blackberry and dark plum fruit, followed by liquorice and coffee grounds and some black pepper (and on day 1 some nice leaf for complexity) but the fruit never seems baked or dead and the tannins are supportive with just enough acid to keep things fresh. More the balance and power of the Panther tank than the hulking and slightly ridiculous Tiger tank but perhaps the T34-85 was better than both of those.

Under screw cap this has years ahead of it but right now it is in a very happy place and I always think that is when one drinks wine.

A refreshing "Vin de soif" pairing well with local anchovies and white tuna. Citric aromas, apple, pears, with a iodine touch (the local maritime substitute for minerality).

Dark in coulour, this offers a nose of dito fruit with blackberry, sloan and perhaps blueberry. I find it a bit hard to pinpoint the aromas, suffice to say "dark fruit". Also slightly medicinal with a hint of something herbal and minty, perhaps that eucalyptus austrailian wine is (in)famous for? On the palate again towards the inky end of the spectrum. Very similar to the nose. Quite big and powerfull but by no means a sweet fruitbomb, rather more about structure with toasted wood, medicinal herbs and dry rock: a good amount of mineral feeling with iron, granite and slight smoke. Medium tannins and acidity. Good lenght.

A lot better than last bottle back in 2019 but still not quite open for bussiness despite a 2-3h decant. I'll wait another 3-4 years for next btl.

Popped and poured. A bit darker than I expected. Slightly closed on the nose initially, this opened up after about 20-30 minutes and showed a mix of dark red cherry and plum, hints of floral notes. Similar flavors on the palate with a bit of rocky minerality on the palate, almost a touch salty. Medium+ acid and tannin. Very nice wine, especially for the price paid, and I think will continue to improve in the bottle.

Probably the best bottle I have had from Nicora. Just bursting with ripe blackberry and black cherry fruit along with a bit of vanilla and baking spice notes but not overly jammy or alcohol driven. Smooth mouthfeel and lingering finish. Worked great as an end of night sipping wine in front of a fire pit.

Everything you look for in an aged cabernet franc. Medium garnet color. Showed some definite green pepper and earthy forest floor notes on the nose with a bit of plum and black cherry but definitely more savory than fruit driven. On the palate however the fruit still comes through along with medium+ acidity and a slightly spicy but smooth finish. Pretty good length on the finish as well. Really enjoyed it.

14% alcohol. Pretty good cork both in terms of length and quality. The colour is translucent.
Superb lively red fruited nose with a lot of energy; red cherry and wild red berries. There may be a slight perception of alcohol, but this is marginal and it will undoubtedly fix itself over time. The mouth is consistent with the nose (minus the alcohol feel) and it adds vg mouthfeel and a good deal of elegance and subtlety.
A superb Pinot Noir which does not call for comparison with Burgundy, so satisfying it is. Should age gracefully into even higher territories.

It is possible to mix the sublime with the ridiculous, as this wine shows. The sublime was the wine itself. Something of a wine eruption when opened and poured into glass, it also lived happily for 3 days in decanter (how did I not guzzle it before then? Weak gene pool, perhaps. I blame my parents).

The ridiculous was the enormous eruption from my nether regions shortly after I opened this. The expression 'to take one's ease' really cannot do justice to the prodigious quantity of excreta that I did. Visiting the thunderbox is closer to the mark. Craps like this can be fantastic things, leaving one feeling light headed and triumphant; plumbers and sewerage workers doubtless feel rumblings of imminent PTSD at the idea of having to grapple with my efforts.

My bottle, despite a cork in wizard condition was a little more developed than other tasters have noted but it was still fresh enough. Tannins were supple and approaching resolution. A wonderful example of Pomerol. I confess that I have a preference for the more elegant expressions from the other bank but this is damned good stuff and a great poo deserved to be matched with a sensational wine.

I guess one must turn to Patti Smith's magnificent album 'Easter' and the high-octane riffing track '25th Floor', a song that seems in part to be about having sex in a high-rise loo, whilst celebrating female sexuality, with a wonderful spoken word part including the memorable statements:

We explore the men's room.
We don't give a shit.
Ladies' lost electricity;
Take vows inside of it.

The transformation of waste
Is perhaps the oldest pre-occupation of man.
Man being the chosen alloy,
He must be reconnected - via shit, at all cost.

YEA-AH!

Very lean. Pale straw colour with green hue.
Lemon/lime, gooseberry and gray pears with a lot of minerals and high acidity. Felt somewhat linear and diluted compared to what I was hoping for.

Not sure if this was a weak bottle or if it just needs more time to flesh out as it was way tighter than expected.
