PnP. Light bricking around the edges and a lovely nose. Not a heavyweight wine but nicely balanced. A sense that it may open up further if given a few more years.

At CdB HK dinner. Paired with Latour a Pomerol 2014.

Much softer approachable style and I think well judged for the vintage. Lighter style but lovely nose of raspberries, red cherry and some spice. Refreshing and uplifting to drink already and this is clearly in its drinking window. Will have a very interesting 10 years ahead of it and expect it will improve 1-2 points. Great balance and mouthfeel, very well made and smartly done! Decent to good QPR. Not a 30 year wine but we don’t need everything to be like that!

This was drunk with friends tonight at a restaurant. It's a beautiful garnet colored wine. It's just into its drinking window at 20 years of age. It's a medium bodied wine with a mellowed consistency. The flavors are very typical of a Pomerol with the olive accent. Drink now or over the next 10 years.

Really tasty mature 82 Bordeaux. Dark red fruits, truffles, hints of leather and cedar, lavender. Balanced and fully resolved, Long finish. Glad to have a couple more. Not fading like some 82's.

Black cherries, chalk and chocolate, with a delicate hint of salt are the focus of the refined, supple, soft, medium-bodied, elegant Pomerol. No decanting needed. This is ready-to-go. Drink from 2024-2035.

a lovely balance to this although I feel it needs more time and quite a lot of it - leave for three years plus

Holiday Champagne Gala (Wilmette Harbor Club): Tasted at gala dinner. Charming nose, good enough flavors, well balanced, but slightly dirty. Very interesting.

Cherries, plums, mint leaf, flowers, and a hint of cocoa show up easily in the nose. On the palate, the medium-bodied wine is soft, fresh, refined, and with a strong, dark chocolate mint note that accompanies the plums in the chalky finish. Drink from 2024-2042.

Really great. Other reviewers are right - something vaguely Burgundian about this Pomerol.. really subtle and earthy but still beautiful balance emerged after about 30-1hr of air. Kept improving throughout the night. Yummy

Tasted blimd. Quite muted on the nose and on the palate. I was opened and decanted a couple of hours prior but it’s just nowhere near ready. Faint notes of tobacco, black fruit and eucalyptus, tannins are still quite dry. I’d say wait… at least five years.

Brick red color. Beautiful, funky nose with black soil, cooked mushrooms, saddle leather, fresh tobacco and tart cherry. More of the same plus some mint notes on the palate. Some would find this a bit lean I'm sure, but for those like me that enjoy tertiary flavors it's really a nice wine. Reminds me somewhat of a high quality aged Chinon, but more leather and less herbal. I didn't have high expectations for this bottle given the vintage, but clearly the provenance on this bottle (birthday gift a couple years ago) was great, and it really impressed me.

A fantastic 82 with truffle, perfume, red fruit, cassis and Asian spice. The wine was fully resolved with vibrancy and layers. Drinking fantastically.

Bouquet of dark fruits, dried prunes, mint. Palate of dark fruits, spices, still a bit tannic, a bit drying and rustic, yet good structure and complexity. Relatively long finish, getting better with time.

7th of 12, opened 3 hours then splash decanted, perfect cork and level, developing nicely, at laid back, fragrant and nuanced end of spectrum, if more mid palate punch develops, worthy of an upgrade, limited upside, 8+ years. F (17.5).

Champagne and claret (John's place, Croton): Liked although didn't love this, a touch leathery and slightly bretty with a faint murkiness to the red fruited flavours that made it feel a bit muddled next to the '89 Conseillante poured alongside (alas, comparison, the thief of joy). Time helps bring it together as it clears up in the glass and gains focus; it's a pretty wine though never (for me) became an especially compelling or exciting one this evening.

Very surprising after the last few older Bordeaux, which were mainly tertiary aromas. This one still had a good amount of fruit left. I wouldn't keep it for to much longer unless you like more tertiary flavors feels on top now. Smooth tannins and long finish. There is quite a lot of bottle variation.

So this was very nice but slightly bitter on the end of the palate. Not a lot of fruit left so I don't think it will keep for long at current levels. Finish within a couple of years.

Deep garnet color in the glass. Its nose is vibrant, featuring dark plums and cherries with a hint of Pernod spice. On the palate, the wine is smooth and shows signs of maturity, with the fruit flavors receding to reveal tertiary notes of leather and tobacco, alongside pronounced tannins. Long finish.

Servert blindt: Veldig sexy og litt rik frukt på nese med en del sopp og jord. Lever ikke helt opp i munnen. I munnen mere rustikk, noe grønt samtidig litt alkostikk. Alkostikket sender meg i retning østside, de rustikke aromaene sender meg i retning vestside. Bra lengde 90 poeng

Strong tertiary notes of earth, soft leather. Longer finish than Ausone, Magedelaine in same vintage. After a few hours, thinned out significantly, became flabby. I really enjoyed this one, but many others did not find it on point. Edited to add: interestingly, all of the tasters in my group seemed to find this more pleasant than the CT notes of late.

This is fully mature and only needs decanting to remove any sediment. The initial nose is out of this world, and worthy of a perfect rating, with deeply sensuous aromas. The palate displays tobacco and chocolate, with earthy undertones and is well balanced and complex. The end palate and finish were very tannic, and for myself distracted from the whole tasting experience.

Soft, silky, red, and black plums, complicated by cocoa and dried floral notes which shine through on the nose, and on the medium-bodied, silky-edged palate. Drink from 2023-2035.

Ready to go Pomerol charmer. The wine is medium-bodied and already displaying its earthy, bright red berry, vibrant, floral character. The soft finish delivers more earthy, red fruit nuances. Drink from 2023-2030.

Another modern rendition of Pomerol...who are we kidding, its a 2018 and as far as I am concerned, the vintage really should be called "The Modern Vintage". Not necessarily bad and not intended as a negative comment, but the more I drink and sample through the vintage, the more I realize that this is an easy to understand vintage, anchored in richness and plushness of the fruit, while maintaining a foot in Bordeaux. The 2018 Certan de May is showing plush, deep as the night, creamy, and mouth coating. The cedar influence and acidity says Bordeaux. This one should be left alone for at least 5 years. HOLD_

Hello Lovely, where have you been all night??? This is downright fucking Bordeaux. Deep, beautiful balance of dark fruit, earth, blood, and cold clay. This is why I pop corks. To catch an underdog like this in its prime. This wowed me over and over. The best 2011 I have had yet! Find some. DRINK!

The third of five wines enjoyed with a good friend over a long afternoon and evening. I am grateful to my friend for bringing this. Tasted alongside the same vintage Lagrange.

RUSTIC! (rŭs′tĭk)!!! Now, a public service announcement: Those who go looking for fruit in this next level wine of the earth will likely come away disappointed, perhaps even offended.

Some stewed cherry a rhubarb notes. Otherwise, it delivers waves of root vegetables, herbs, clay, tobacco (in all forms), carob, iodine, savoriness, and funk. The wine tastes exactly like it smells. Seriously powerful! No holds barred! In a very good place right now. Likely to hold form for five to seven years. A highly informative tasting experience. 94-95.

Spices, fruit and a hint of Mont Cherie. By far more aromatic than 5 years ago. Enough volume and ripeness for a 2008, but not opulent. Balanced. Good wine. Seems that there is potential for 10 more years.

Dark garnet, bricking
Aromatics medium +. Earth, menthol, shoe leather, cigarette ash, old wood and some green bell pepper.
Palate has a medium body. Acid medium +. Tannins medium +, coarse grained but well integrated. Alcohol medium. Dry old black cherry. Dark cocoa. Mild green bell pepper
Finish has a medium length. Balanced
Dry glass notes of pyrazines
Well made, 37 year old Bordeaux. Still has acid, good structure but all headed towards tertiary.
Drink now

Double blind tasting
Medium garnet with extensive bricking
Medium plus aromas of dried red fruit but dominated by tertiary aromas of old furniture/ leather / tobacco - savory notes - no noticeable oak aromas
Medium bodied with palate of red fruit/ plum and possible tomato
Medium plus acidity and medium plus perfectly integrated tannins and medium alcohol
I called this Brunello based on the savory notes and IMO absence of any pyrazinic qualities - I find aged wines to integrate over times
Not my style of wine due to lack of fruit but definitely well integrated and well made
Drink now

Langton's Bordeaux En Primeur 2022 tasting (Langham Hotel, Kent Street, Sydney): Ripe plums, oak spice, very slight touch of alcohol prickle, simple though pleasant nose. And equally pleasant on the palate, plummy fruit retains it freshness, tannins are softly textured and persist long, alcohol warmth is present but managed. Rather nice.

Top 100 Farewell Dinner 2014 (Rodwell House): (Tasted Blind): herbal aromas to start with a touch of earth, graphite but not much fruit. The palate is fresh with some sweet fruit, medium-bodied, and feels nicely constructed and balanced as it ages gracefully. However, the herbal note is annoying, and the aftertaste has a touch of unripe acid.

Wow, wine of the night for me in a flight of around 29 right and left bank en primeur bordeaux at the Langham. Vibrant colour presents a fruit-driven nose dominated by varied berries commands attention, given depth by intriguing mineral hints. On the palate, the wine asserts itself with medium tannins, giving structure to the berry flavours that dance around, leading to a complex aftertaste that is nothing short of fascinating. What shines through is the harmonious blend of freshness, structure, and succulent fruit that lends the wine its standout character, earning it a personal rating of 95. The promise of evolution is palpable and thrilling in every sip, however my judgement is based on how the wines are drinking now.

Bert's pension party part 2; Bordeaux (@ BV): Beautiful and somewhat rustic bouquet with sweet spices, dark berries and graphite. Bordeaux WIMPS #166 30th June 2023 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Redcurrant coulis sweetness / sourness with some bresaola meatiness to the nose. Later some fruit pastille with a touch of smoke. Palate is youthful with resolving tannins and good, puckering acidity. Returning at the end of the lunch this is opening out nicely. One to watch.

I don't fully share the enthusiasm for this wine.
Yes. It's a balanced and well-crafted wine, but 1986 was as strong on the right bank as it was on left.
What is missing is the textural richness, generosity and length that you should expect from a very good Pomerol estate in a good vintage.
It does make for a very good dinner wine though.
Drink over next 3 years.
