White
2006 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
90 points
Tasted at auction. Mostly mature orchard fruit with faint earth. Good weight and length. Time to drink up.
White
2007 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
93 points
Tasted at auction. Complex array of fresh and mature orchard fruit with a charming perfume. That rare Roulot that seems to be getting even better after 10 yo, but his 2007s were magical from the start.
White
2020 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Tasted at auction. Ripe lemon with good weight, better length, all nicely persistent.
White
2015 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chateniere Blanc Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
90 points
Tasted at auction. Rich lemon and lemon curd that brings lots of energy to a clearly ripe wine. Very good length and balance. From 3L.
White
2016 Joseph Drouhin Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
89 points
Tasted at auction. Mature orchard fruit with good weight, softening on finish.

2017 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Baronne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
89 points
Tasted at auction. Good richness and balance, good enough weight. Good enough now.
White
2006 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Red
2019 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru

Tasted at auction. Ripe expression of Volnay spice with all red fruit, still slightly oaky. Give this much more cellar time.

2018 Pétrus France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Tasted at auction. Served blind. Clearly young, well polished Bordeaux. Backward without being awkward. Lots of exciting potential.
White
2014 Jean-Claude Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
flawed
Tasted at auction. Tired
White
2013 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Complex and layered with so much going on, wonderfully fresh and layered.
White
1989 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
flawed
Very tired
White
2007 Arnaud Ente Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
90 points
Tasted at auction. Reductive start, then ever-so-grudgingly emerging as a powerful Village wine. Very good density. Very good now.
White
2013 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
95 points
Tasted at auction. Rich and nuanced, this has come together into a magically (seemingly) ripe wine coming from this lean vintage. Great now, a step up from the great 2013 Ruchottes.
White
2021 Domaine Jean Chartron Chevalier-Montrachet Clos des Chevaliers France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasted a t auction. Just off the boat last month, so maybe unfair to assess. Lean and very energetic with good weight and persistence. Slightly lacking in the complexity that makes Grand Cru worth the tariff, but too young and possibly suffering from its recent travels.

2012 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Tasted at auction. Well spiced but very tired.
White
2016 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Cuvée Haute Densité France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
94 points
Tasted at auction. Rich and energetic at the same time, this comes across as a real powerhouse. The rare 2016 white that seems exciting.
Red
2017 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes Vieille Vigne France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
89 points
Tasted at auction. Ripe black fruit with wonderful balance, good enough weight. Identical to the bottle tasted the other day.
Red
2019 Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut St. Jacques Cuvée 1923 Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
94 points
Tasted at auction. My first time tasting this OV cuvee from any vintage, and wow, this is incredibly charming already with impressive density. Great already with lots of upside, 94-95 points?

1988 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
flawed
Tasted a t auction. Ever-so-slightly corked
White
2005 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
94 points
Tasted at auction. Magnum. Big, rich, and lush with easily to enough structure to retain its freshness. Much better/ fresher than a bottle I opened late last year.
White
2004 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
96 points
Tasted at auction. Brilliant, bright, and powerful. Superb energy and length. I've had this wine well over a dozen times through the year, and think today's bottle is likely the best ever.
White
2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
93 points
Tasted at auction. Wonderfully rich and lush with lots of baked apple and lemon confit, this has the energy to retain freshness for the medium term. Very good length.
White
1996 Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
94 points
Tasted at auction. Magnum. Quiet start, the nearly explosively good middle-to-finish. This might also be the best I can ever recall for this (inconsistent) wine.
Red
2019 Domaine Anne Gros Echezeaux Les Loachausses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Tasted at auction. Lush and rich, but with the structure to pull that off easily. Sneaky power and length. Needs cellar time, very good potential.
Red
2006 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
94 points
I opened this at auction. Fleshy red and black cherry that is wonderfully dense and lively. Bright and engaging. Served alongside the very different, equally wonderful 2007 vintage.
Red
2007 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
93 points
Tasted at auction. Lighter and brighter than the 2006 in the next glass. This was ripe and faintly sweet but so graceful and ethereal. Very good now.
Red
1993 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
91 points
Tasted at auction, immediately after tasting 2006 and 2007. Charming old Burgundy, this earthy and engaging, but slightly less fully composed compared with the younger vintages. Still very good now.
Red
2005 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sorì San Lorenzo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Tasted at auction. So dense and powerful, certainly interesting but barely accessible today.
Red
2005 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Véroilles France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
Tasted at auction. I was skeptical, given how firm most 2005s are still today, but wow, what a pleasant surprise. So charming, so engaging, this has gobs of bright red fruit with silky structure in the near background. Very good length. Very good already now, with further upside.

2012 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Bonnes Mares France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru
Tasted at auction. Opened/ decanted an hour before tasting, then tasted again a few hours later. Rich and bulky to start with so much power and hints of great complexity. Some of that nuance was finally front-and-center at the end of the afternoon. I remain confident of this wine's 95-96+ point potential.
Red
1996 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
flawed
Tasted at auction. I've been thrilled by this wine before, but today's bottle seemed slightly dirty.
Red
2004 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Tâche Grand Cru
91 points
Tasted at auction. Certainly charming, but very "2004" in its weight and faint green note. The first time I have ever tasted this vintage of La Tâche.
Red
2001 Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
95 points
Tasted at auction. It is always a good day when I see this wine served, once again perfectly harmonious with power.
Red
2018 Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche MCMLV France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
96 points
Tasted at auction. A behemoth that borders being approachable, with so much power and substance. Maybe this is not quite as great as the 2020 vintage tasted the other night, but maybe it will be when that 2018 structure softens a bit more.
Red
2004 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
86 points
Tasted at auction. Good enough volume, but slightly bitter in the manner of the vintage, even without anything noticeably green.
Red
1985 Domaine Jean Gros Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
93 points
Tasted at auction. Wonderfully balanced with enough freshness, wonderful mature notes, and enough structure, all in wonderful harmony.
Red
1995 Domaine Dujac Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
flawed
Tasted at auction. Slightly dirty, this was still tasty, but nowhere near its potential.
White - Sparkling
1988 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
93 points
Tasted at auction. My favorite vintage for aged Champagne, it is especially exciting when these mid-aged sparklers are this fresh, supplementing its great richness.
Red
2007 Domaine Bizot Bourgogne Le Chapitre France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
flawed
Tasted at auction. A little tired, certainly not pristine. Jean-Yves' first vintage with this terroir?
